  1. Yeah, although in that instance it was a compressed air powered version, rather than the ones in the UK, which in the main are powered by .22 rimfire blanks... There is an interesting article on the internet from Germany about survival rates of people who have attempted to commit suicide using a captive bolt. Some attempts resulted in instant death, but others survived several days or even weeks...
  2. one has a stick with a spring on the end you insert into the hole to agitate the brain, basically tells the brain its dead A captive bolt is a humane stunner. Bleeding or pithing is required to kill the animal. It is possible for an animal to regain consciousness following a captive bolt if bleeding or pithing is not carried out, hence anecdotes of 'dead' animals jumping out of the lorries during the foot and mouth culling...
  3. but according to countryfile over % of halal meat is stunned prior to slaughter So the Muslim they asked said, yes. And if saying a prayer while slaughtering in the "normal" way makes it Halal, then so be it. But he also mentioned the hardcore Muslims who insisted that the animals were conscious to hear the prayer. Assuming they speak Arabic. Can you really believe the stun some, and not others to cater for their religion? I don't. What they do and say on TV and what they do behind closed doors i suspect are very different. but the point is it can not be both humane to stun
  4. but the police were interested in this case http://www.cumbriacrack.com/2014/02/02/horror-dog-found-throat-cut/ When I did my Lincolnshire deer RTA first responder course, we were told under no circumstances was a knife to be used for humane dispatch. If it was not possible to shoot the deer, then we were to insist that the police call out, and pay for, a vet to inject the animal. Apparently the head RSPCA rep in the area had publicly stated their intention to prosecute anyone who uses a knife to dispatch an RTA deer. I have researched halal slaughter quite extensively on the in
  5. A good way to reduce overall length would be a fully moderated rifle - http://www.jmsarms.com/mae_article.php
  6. A skeptical hippo? Now that is a sight I would like to see. (And having just googled it, I have!) I was wondering how he dug the coyote out, as in, did he just trench on from the mouth of the hole. If so, what stopped the quarry from bolting straight out past him?
  7. I haven't seen it yet. DnN wrote the article, not me. He promised to send me a copy lol.
  8. That's a big yote. Did he use a dog to dig that with? Or just shoot it from the hole end?
  9. What hell you gonna do with a Fresian Bull calf? Eat the fecker lol not the best beef but beef nevertheless  Black and white bull beef can be excellent. But I don't think they are possibly the best cattle for the small holder/backyard farmer...
  10. What hell you gonna do with a Fresian Bull calf?
  11. Flirt pole is good. Just don't over do it. Spring pole can be fun for them as well. I don't actually work my dogs, but if you Google 'powerhouse road work keep' it's what I use to get them looking good for the summer shows...
  12. What do you call a soldier in a suit?
  13. Maybe skin and butcher them in the field, then wrap the joints in plastic bags and put them in a rucksack?
  14. not got it now but i had a work bench in there dogs used to come out doss on the settee while i was in there pottering about .. Thats a f***ing excellent idea. Only problem would be I would get divorced, as the Mrs would never see me...
  15. You have already posted this thread 18 months ago. P3d gave excellent replies. What was wrong with his advice? http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/260239-kennels/
  16. tis a different one man and his dog to the one i used to watch, phil drabble presented it, then that little hobbit looking fellow, robin someone or other? it used to be a wide open field full of sheep, then one man and his collie dog would round them into pens...i belive it was to show the training skills of the man and the control of his dog.maybe changed over the yrs? i shall never worry about a pig sitting in the mud whilst a cur dog barks at it, but to me it is absolutely pointless, proves nothing. if that is a test for a terrier, then i'd say most of the mutts in the land would pass with
  17. Make a strap out of an old bit of seat belt and a couple of hooks and sling the things over your shoulder. The MOD ponchos/emergency stretchers are not good for dragging. They rip very easily.
  18. FFS mate youve been mixing with the wrong sort .If a terrier wont do it fair and square in the field given the opportunity then it aint going to .If the jagd needs this type of entering then best stay away mate . Taking an adolescent to a fresh hole and seeing what occurs is the only entering i do . That wasn't aimed at you or anyone in particular mate, more of a general, rhetorical question. I've never done any of these things myself, as it would require having a dog which could be dug to in the first place, something I am sadly lacking at this time. But I have heard of people on TH
  19. Training in a controlled environment gives a greater chance of success. Have you never hole ended a terrier? Or dropped quarry in an earth you know to be more suitable for a young dog? Or does the fact that the earth is not within a fence make it ok in your eyes? What do you think of rabbit pens used to train gun dogs?
  20. I always liked Russell Crowe in Gladiator...
  21. We will have to disagree in this instance. How else do you suggest a young terrier is introduced to such dangerous quarry?
  22. PM me next time you are planning a walk out. I'm just over the bridge from you...
