  5. You are right. It has been proven. A recent test and report (shall hunt it out) has shown dominance and other misconceptions to be totally flawed. Have you tried The Dog Listener instead? I understand you have no grounds to discuss. Fine
  6. Yes - its in a book. It MUST be right. lol. Its a load of rubbish. To imply that a dog would look at you as a dog, would also imply that a dog could not tell the difference between other different species, and we all know that isn't the case. While you are looking at every aspect of the dogs behaviour as a dominance problem related to its position with in its pack, you will get no where. You are his leader, but not his Alpha, in that you are not a dog. Yes, scruffing may get the desired result, but not for the reasons you think it does.
  7. WOW! Scruffing to politics in one post Am not one that believes in this 'purely positive' teaching lark. A dog does need to know consequences to it's actions. All the 'he came back, give him a treat' stuff, even though it took the dog 3 hours to come back, doesn't wash well with me. Though positive reinforcement does have its place in dog training. And if the positive can be used, then why use a negative reinforcement? Pack leader? Do you think your dog sees you as another dog? Most definitely not. A pack of dogs living with you will have its own hierarchy with in the group.
  8. Glad it has all gone so well. What a good mum Mum will do all the hard work now for the next couple of weeks. Keep her well fed and watered, small amounts of feed more often to keep her milk up. 5 beautiful brindle babes. You must be so chuffed
  9. I know many methods that work. Can mandy pandy a dog or beat it with a stick. I don't think any one has stated it doesn't work. Simply that it isn't necessary. That their are other - I would say better - ways of doing it.
  10. Real workers, as in they worked at the show? I surgest you read the post about the E D R D Show last week, and look at the pictures...... I shall do that. Thanks. But it doesn't alter my comment any.
  11. Real workers, as in they worked at the show?
  12. You know there really is no comparison between the 2 events you have asked about either. Your questions make as much sense as your training.
  13. Nice to see the sheer number of out dated bullies we have on board
  14. Feel free to come and meet the gang. Come and see the commotion And not a single scruffing in sight. For those still thinking that scruffing and bullying is the way to go, may I suggest Koehlers method of dog training. Would be right down your ally Who is this character? May i ask what kind of dogs you run 6pack, just out of interest... Not what kind you train or what you have trained but what kind you own... And no one ever mentioned bullying, why blow it out of contect to try to get more surport.....???? Well seeing as I was asked about literature - who do you thi

  17. if this is your approach to dogs mate then you are an accident waiting to happen and i fear that sooner or later a dog will be put down because you did not teach it respect and ranking because you didnt want to hurt its feelings. this is no attitude to have. as stated a dog with a lower role in the pack has to accept that it eats when it is allowed to by the pack leader. without sounding funny i would say keep this kind of advise to yourself otherwise there will be a lot more stories of bad owners ruining good dogs ohhhhh, you are so sadly mistaken. I feel for you. You have absolutely
  18. So many stone age bullies Teaching a dog to retrieve is completely different then forcing it to guard its food. There's a fine line between dominate and domineering.
  19. Bolocks! watch how the alpha puts the under dogs in there place, it bites them!! Your pup doesnt have a pack to play with, it needs a leader! How many growling pups have you actually had, and you lurcher gurl? You are very very wrong. An 'alpha' male doesn't bite the dog at all. A dominant male can exert his power through glance alone. The submissive dog is the one doing all the work and will roll and show its under belly as a sign of its submission. This article helps explain it better. Lou castle training. But if you wish to keep your bully title, who am I to argue
  20. I agree with you lurchergrrl. I can not fathom where the idea that scruffing teaches pack leadership, (or the alpha roll(, comes from? It is not a natural behaviour between dogs, so why do we think it is when we do it? Why do we think it teaches anything other than pain and fear to our dogs? It is not a natural occurrence within the pack mentality. Its stone age dog training, nothing else.
  21. Scenarios? Where you reading? There was one. One owner for some reason wanting to take a dogs basic resource from him. My post shows how it escalates beyond control. It is interesting to read how many owners are stuck in the ice ages, still thinking dogs see them as alpha and that dominance rules. Classic! There is no need to 'check' the dog at all. Just check the way he approaches the situation.
  22. Neck scruffing is so out dated - you may as well slap your dog around. Its not a natural thing for a dog, and you had better make sure you are bigger and better. Would love to see you try it with a big dog - would you care to borrow some body armour? Look out for the day your dog thinks your kid is coming to do the same thing to him and he decides to get his bite in first. Am sure you will be quick to PTS for you misdoings Teach the dog that your approach to his bowl is a good thing. Add food rather than taking away. Then when the time comes when you do need to retrieve something from i
  23. Thats priceless - thanks for the best laugh all day
