I've known many a Dane over the years, through the vets I've worked for. I personally can't see how they'd add much to a lurcher. What they are today (versus what they must've been 100 years ago, say) is nowt more than really big, cumbersome drooling couch potatoes. Watch one loping around in a field - they just don't have much to offer. FJager is right, they wouldn't add much more than size, which would be better obtained through other breeds imo. But saying that, it would be really nice to see a Dane that was healthy, athletic and strong. But years and years of fad breeding have pretty

Puppy Litters & Rescue Lurchers

With you there Scally; having owned a few pedigree's in my day, and having been a vet nurse, I've seen some pretty sad examples of several different breeds. I rescued a boston terrier once who was nowt more than a puppy machine, all knarled and twisted but still turning out pups Her temperment was even worse than her looks poor bugger. The whole breeding debate could go round and round and round. In the end, it would seem to me that working stock, when bred by thoughtful people, is the best there is. When done sparingly and with some forethought, it benefits the dogs as well as the folks -

Would that others could manage to do the same. im all for a good debait and like to voice and hear opinions from all,but when you sink as low as you have with your sly, belittleing and snotty remarks picking holes in any comments that dont meet your ideals or approval tends to make me think that you have not a clue about the average joe doing his or her thing there way.no one is trying to force there opinions on you all there trying to tell you is that you are a stuck up old trout who talks to people like there something stuck to the bottom of your shoe,or are we not worthy of that either, -

I did you a favour mate, she's a handful She'll definately do what you bred her for; she's going to be a good one. Bet you wish you'd kept her now! All joking aside tho .... you gave me Griff, and then gave this one to me when he was killed, and both of them are spot on dogs in every way. I'm lucky Lee, thanks pal. Drinks on me sometime Goes to show, there are folks who breed for the right reasons. Not just out for the money

I'm a bit proud of her - from a quivering bag of bones to a muscle bound bone head in seven months Maybe someday she'll fetch me back what she catches

Blah blah blah .... :wankerzo4: I'll be able to astound my peers by pointing out what an absolute eejit you are With you on that Scallywag - I'm glad the bloke who bred both my lurchers (Broomer on here) did the breeding, as he's turned out two litters of very good dogs. Both of mine were given to me because he knows they get a quality home with me. He bred to keep one back out of the second litter, but gave the one he was keeping to me after Griff was killed. It would be such a relief to see less of the money-making breeding and more responsible, thoughful breeding; sadly, we b -

To repeat...I can tell quality from crap & prefer quality. You go ahead & take all the junk you want, wuv em to death,I don't care. But...kindly learn how to spell SHEPHERD-as in "HERDS sheep"!-& don't tell me to do the same. I've been doing my 100% purebred, registered, titled dogs for coming on 40yrs.now. I have "DISCRIMINATING TASTE",not "narrow-minded views" *&* what business is it of yours to push mutts on anybody let alone me,pray tell? Put your dummy back in Nobody suggested that you take a rescue dog in. Nobody is pushing anything on you And pointing out p -
Puppy Litters & Rescue Lurchers
lurchergrrl replied to cúagusgiorraí's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Saying that infers that the animals in rescue or pounds are somehow inferior - which I suspect, in many cases, would be more applicable to their past owners than the dogs themselves. I've seen some remarkable animals pass through rescue. They're certainly not all pieces of sh*t - again, that description is best saved for the vast majority of d*ckheads who dump them in the first place. I prefer to rear a puppy for a lot of different reasons but I would not turn my nose up at the right older dog. Experienced dog folks - true ones - should be able to read potential in a rescue dog and build o -
Well done Kay The only time I run is when one of the sprogs charges off somewhere I'm happy in a gym, but no way would I take up running!
-
I call them 'snack sized' dogs I only give folks so much warning before I make the move to shoo the four legged morsels myself - better that than ending up an h'orderve Deffo try a head collar Kaye. Good luck!
-
If you're thinking head collar, one of these might do the trick as well http://www.cannyco.com/ I've used one in the past and can't recommend it enough The thing I like best about them is that the control comes from the back of the head as opposed to the side or under the chin, as with most head collars. Mine worked a treat with a manic boxer dog - he nearly killed me once in traffic, and was a nightmare until I got a Canny. My two now are superb on the lead, but if I needed a head collar it would be one of these for sure.

Working for a bunch of ego maniacs in expensive suits just doesn't light me up I'd rather avoid it to be honest. The idea of sitting in an office all day now makes me cringe. But I'm good at what I do, and the money is fair decent. You never know what the future brings ... needs must and all that. I might go back to college when the sprogs are all in school. Get myself a job working out and about instead of as a desk jockey

The name rings a bell ..... Used to be an Exec Administrator. Now I stay home and wipe noses and bums. The pay isn't as good but it beats working for a bunch of stuffy suits all day

Grand Bill!! Oh how I long for a decent camera .... at least I can live vicariously through you (but I always have to explain to people that the gorgeous pics on my screen saver are yours )

That's a beautiful looking dog
