Rabbit Control At Wrong Time Of Year....
ZeusPolecat replied to Joe1888's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
As Daniel said go out with the rifle, just to show face if anything. Try and explain to them why ferreting is more productive during the winter and your time will show better results then. -
Lonely. Last kit I brought home I kept alone for a day or two to settle and she yelped and screamed, especially when she could sense the other ferrets. As soon as she was moved in with the others it stopped.

Thanks. Hero 3+ black

Looks like myxoma for sure. Spraffed a big description of all I learnt under this video

Herd the same, should have been the end of the line.

Have the draw cord and peg above the hole with no slack. As said, have the bottom of the net folded towards the burrow a little bit. Lots of examples here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL61KCPh8ymANKOPWt4w-F1HYqudY2G7TP

It is a great source of entertainment Can't beat it. Hope to film a few play fights at some point.

Bet theres carnage when you let them loose into a new play area!

Ive only read a load of information, experience wise ive only helped breed a couple times. But my understanding is, it can help the gene pool health wise. Improve eyesight, other senses, muscles, speed and overall health of a strain. Long term, for future generations, it is a realistic method to promote healthy working ferrets and maintain a hunting instinct amoung pet variants. But they will catch and kill. I like a ferret who tries and fails haha, giving me a bolt. 10 or 20% pole maybe. As said, the ferret does a great job, a wild mudslide does the job too well. It needs to be left to

Worms for a dog. Not a bad guess for another mammal. But as the guys said, itchy arse for whatever reason! How does it look? Maybe see a vet. Could be as simple as releasing a clogged anal gland.

For a beginners life at home - hobs are the best as they take to their owners much better... soft as shit, will sleep on your lap and generally seek your company. The girls don't want to be around you for long, but are less likely to hold a rabbit underground. Hobs have more stamina for the long hunt but will have you seeking/pulling and digging more. Each have their advantages and you cant really go too wrong if your willing to work with their style. But these are stereotypical statements. You could end up with a heavy weight, human loving jill. Find their strengths and work with them.

Thanks. Have another filmed which I'm working on now.

Always been accurate with the MK3M. Half a foot out a most but that could be due to movement underground. Never tried the old MK1s and wont say anything against the people who will know more about it. I don't think you'd go wrong with the 3. Obvious advantage is the extra range for an easier long range search. Having said that, I had a problem with a 3M collar, only a seasons work. Intermittent failure, very unreliable readings. Contacted Deben and they were happy to take a look. They claimed it passed their tests and sent it back. All free, but perhaps wouldn't have been if they found a faul

Any toy is great fun to begin with.... then it's old news. Tube, ball, something to dig in, cardboard box, anything that smells new really - rotate often to keep interest. Those wheels look great though, keep meaning to enquire...

Out of four jills, two are about 16 inches when casually standing, nose to tail tip. Other two were shorter. Use that as a guide if its useful. I wouldn't call any large. As said, useful if they fit through nets but generally the hobs will be thicker. Stamina can be worth it if you have the same energy. I'm too lazy

Has he settled down a bit now?
-
Collars fine, but it needs to be very tight. Make sure you can spin the collar around the neck without twisting their neck too much as you do so. Keeping that in mind, go as tight as you can. Jump to three minutes. You can see how I test the spin. You could go slightly tighter than shown there. But make sure it can turn because it could indicate it being too tight if not. Never had one come off with that technique.

Have you had many young? Seen lots down on the flood plains but wondering if I could squeeze out another weekend on the hills. Not sure if It makes much difference? Maybe coincidence but higher ground seems to slow them down.
-
Sorry, men't the implant. Has kept them out for three years so far. Not bad for £40.

Brilliant effort that! Good on you! Sounds like he will have lots to keep him occupied!! Whats his sexual situation? I'd presume entire? If you don't want anymore thats understandable but If it comes into consideration.. If looking for a second ferret Id suggest a jill (For working intentions, if not - go hob). Mainly because it broadens your potential working environments. For year round contact he would need castrated, but they could be parted to suit other needs.. You say hes lived alone for two years... that may mean his social knowledge is undeveloped. I've seen year+ old solo hobs tha

Ferret Training (Sound Association)
ZeusPolecat replied to Captain Black's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Pets at home sell 'multi vitamin ferret malt paste'. Mine love it. -
Getting used to new surroundings yeah. But that behavior can also indicate boredom. They need stimulation, as they are smart critters. When a child, I had a hob who lived alone and he paced back and forth. Looking back it haunts me as I see it as insanity now. A friend will do him wonders and feeding doesn't cost much. Decisions upon finding him a friend will depend on his sexual situation. Entire/vasectomised or castrated? The bigger the space he has the better. Tubes, boxes, balls or whatever stimulation you can provide will help. Changing the stimulation items weekly will keep it fres

Maybe the last video of the season. Got a week or two left. There's another filmed, but I think it shows too much - hob. Anyway, my favourite video from my season, like the way it turned out. Hope you enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szhjnOuNwEU
