Whippet Pup Bowed Legs
LIGHT ON LIGHTS OUT replied to staceym2015's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Not sure whether same thing but ive seen it in pit pups when lived in spain. In end it was a combination of things, could be passed on through ancestors. Pup been weaned on poor food then switched to high protien. Tiled or laminated floor where pup cant get a grip. Some people recomend adult food for giant breeds. Id say give it goats milk with a low protien diet, no lower than 19f you can ensure a nalanced diet, raw prob ne better, and make sure pups not on shiny, slippy floors. Research carpo virius. Theres no imediate fix just trail and error. Not heard it in a whippet before but have seen -
Would You Breed From It
LIGHT ON LIGHTS OUT replied to Mixedgrill's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If you needed someone you dont know, who has never seen dog run to tell you to breed from dog then i say you shoulnt use him. I can see you having doubts and regrets before their even born. Not best frame of mind to rear a pup with, atb whatever you do -

Opinions On What % In A Bull X Gh
LIGHT ON LIGHTS OUT replied to the big chief's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I never said anyone caused offence or was impolite. But a few people IMPLIED that he shouldn't get another dog. Hinted at how much work or time he's got. Which nobody knows. You seemed to take offence with something i said but i never said anything about him, his dogs or implied nothing i dont know how many dogs hes got, what he does and im not intrested neither. I said if your only going out once every fortnight then your never going to have a really good dog and i stand by what i said. What people want, have or wether their happy is no concern of mine -

Okay for starters, as someone who gets less opportunity to get out lamping than others - I need 2 dogs. I work nights so when that night off work crops up - I AM GOING OUT. So I need 2 dogs to guarantee that. One could be laid up or in season etc. Time is precious.Secondly it is nobody's business but the man who feeds them how many dogs he keeps. Dogs ain't just a working tool to me. If I had 4 and they were all below average I would still be a happy man. They would put the odd bit in the freezer and I would enjoy their company. This ain't a competition who can keep the best dog and work it -

if the dogs keep the owner happy what does it matter.. If there happy then it doesnt but think you will find that alot of people who have a few dogs but rarely go out are neverthat happywith there dogs, thats why they keep getting another in hope it be better but if they went out more and had less dogs the.n the dogs they got would be better an the owner might be really happy instead of just saying it -

Breeding My First Litter..
LIGHT ON LIGHTS OUT replied to salukixgrey's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Always preferred to buy pups in myself. Dont get me wrong, i have had a couple of litters iin the past but unless i had a very well bred bitch that was a1 at her job and a stud of equal standard, dont think i could be bothered with hassle. It is a nice notion to breed your own pup but theres also some very good dogs been bred to be had without all the hassle. Good luck, hope all goes well -

Your Views On Pup Growling At People Approaching
LIGHT ON LIGHTS OUT replied to flipbull's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Agree. If you have a good bond, have faith in your dog. You should be "listening" too him/her as much as they do you. I remember when i was a kid, round at me mates house. Was sat in living room with him and his mum and family dog. His dad came back from pub with some bloke. Now this dog id never heard make a sound ever but when this bloke sat down the dog started growling big time and my mates mum just said to bloke "think you better leave" and he did. Dad said "what you said thatfo r and she replied" that cnuts dodgy and dog knows it" -
