  2. After a 6 year brake from having running dogs, I was out first thing this morning with Bryn my 6 1/2 month old dog in the field next to my house , off he sprinted after a low flying Buzzard, I stood their in ore watching his back flex like a well used longbow, poetry in motion
  3. Loads of good advice already given, another thing you could try is when you take her out for her walk take a toy of her's or a ball to play fetch and retrieve with all part of the basic training, makes you the most exciting and fun thing to be with. I'm sure you will get their in the end. ATB Chisler
  4. yep some policy do it seems, I've always been proud when the vet has said how clean my dogs mouths have been, i put it down to the the raw diet I've always given them plenty of bones to do the job.
  5. I wonder if this is part of the reason Vet prices have shot up, they rub their hands with glee when you say you've got insurance.
  6. Thanks for all the replies, got the misses on the case doing the searches on the tinternet, she has already said Tesco, she can get points on the club card, sod that.

  8. How do, I've keep running dogs for the past 35yrs and never had them insured, lucky to only have had the usual general running injuries, however the last but one lurcher I had at 14 months old he broke his rear leg quite bad jumping a gate, the vet quoted me £1000 for amputation or £2300 for repair and said would probably not be able to work him, at the time just could not afford it, kids, mortgage etc etc. so had him PTS (broke my heart, he was coming on nicely). had a 6 year brake from keeping running dogs, got into ratting instead. However missed the running game so much I got another which
  9. A tenner ?? They flogg them for a lot less that that ... What ti was beginning of last year did my back in my doc prescribed them for it, had a couple the rest went down the pan, when my daughter came home from uni for hol's she said could of made a few quid their dad £10 a pop London prices ,silly feckers more money than sense.
  10. Find a local no mark drugy and flog them for £10 each and then go to your doc's and ask for some for pain relief, that's what they prescribe them for now
  11. Meats Meat, be it rat,pig or dog, our lads POW's in Burma during WW2 ate what ever they could find to survive, but I do agree these lot are savages.
  12. I agree Planete, will not overdo it ,his bones are still green and growing, I usually do about 3 ten minute training sessions a day finishing off with a few jumps over the scaff plank. Thanks for all the comments, Chisler
  13. 2 months ago I started my Bryn (collie/grey, 6 months know) jump training, in my workshop where we both are everyday I temporary barricaded it in half using a scaff plank 1ft off the ground, as he stepped over it I used the command 'over', with repetition jumping over it to command no probs , over time I have increased the height to 2 ft at present, this morning whilst on his walk round my local farm fields I came across a sheep hurdle 3'6" blocking the way, I hoped over and called him, no way just looked at me, so started walking away and yes over like a gooden with height to spare. it seem

  15. As Joe777 says getting recall 100% helps, the way I've got mine retrieving straight to hand has been to rap and sow a rabbit skin on at first a small 1/2 lb gundog training dummy, then just throw it a couple of feet in front then tell the dog to fetch it, once he picks it up recall him to you then hand in collar and then I give the command 'give' whilst gently taking it out of their mouth, at this point depending one whether the dog is food or toy (their best or favorite one) orientated I give them their reward and plenty of fuss, you give to me, you get something back , keep doing this, repet

  18. Evening all, last Friday I noticed that my 6 month old pup Bryn had a bloodshot and snotty eye, I bathed it with cold black tea over the weekend and this morning it seemed better, however not for my little 6 yr old Jacko bitch Tilly, her one eye was really sore looking and red, so nipped them down the vets, he is a good chap, said the cold tea had helped Bryn, they have mild Conjunctivitis, he gave me some drops, 5 day treatment, better to be safe what say. regards Chisler
  19. How do, I've used both methods to aid recall training with a pup, ie whistle with one and using my own sound with others (years in between pups) for both methods I started off by having the pup siting close up to me indoors with loads of small liver treats at hand,I then gave 2 peeps on the whistle soon as he looked at me touched his collar and gave him a treat and praise, repeated this about 20 times in a row (much to the mrs disgust) carried on doing this for a week, as many times as I could remember to do, never outside just next to me sat in my chair, the next stage was still indoors- h
