  1. That's lovely looking, enjoyable way to spent a rainy afternoon, nice one
  2. I've got a plan now for my next one, had a root about in my air plane modeling box and I have a selection of various thicknesses of Miralite ply, 1mm- 1.5, 2mm & 3mm all Birch 3 ply. I will sand-wedge the oak between possibly the 2mm and go from there. Sincere thanks to 'youcanhide' for giving me the heads up on the possible danger, I'm ugly enough without a scar from a catty failure on my face. cheers Chisler
  3. Thanks for the advice, I will take on board what you say, re-thick time for the next one
  4. Cheers for that, I've been using some old leather I've had for years, it's just under 2mm thick, last night whilst shooting it tore by the hole where the band folds through, I was wearing my safety spec's .
  5. Sure will do, once I feel confident with my shooting accuracy to kill cleanly, then woodies and tree rats look out.
  6. Any advice on the best thickness of leather to use for pouches please. Cheers Chisler
  7. How do, my previous catapults have all been made from mother natures natural stock, I decided to have ago at one from scratch, went to my local builders merchant and they wanted silly money for a minimum 4' x 4' sheet of 18mm multiplex ply, so I had a root about in one of my sheds and found this piece of oak 3/4" thick. Back in the 80's a mate of my Dad's was getting rid of an old 1940's solid oak 'Utility' wardrobe, at the time my dad's hobby was clock making, he made 2 grandfather clock cases and 3 wall mounted bracket clocks out of it, I remember him saying it was the best wood he had ever
  8. I purchased a 12mm 8 ball mold off e-bay £14 delivered, a little bit of finishing off to do on them, but I'm well pleased at the cost. ATB Chisler
  9. Thanks Chuck Rock ,most appreciated,
  10. Good morning, can anybody inform me if their is a formula for calculating the length of Bands or Tubes relating to ones draw length please. cheers Chisler
  11. Nice one, I like the green dub dub also, congratulations.
  12. my misses is complaining about the amount of shattered pegs she keeps finding in the garden, thing is I'm not aiming at the pegs
  13. How do chaps, I'm pleased to report that I'm consistently hitting the 'Barn Door', good grouping within a 10ft circle On a serious note I'm getting there, after lots of lovely practice, about an hour a evening my accuracy is improving, targets 10m away, I've found my anchor point and am shooting TTF style which seems to suit me best, Still not consistent enough to go hunting with but I feel I'm getting there. 14. Nice one, stir fried pigeon breast for tea.
  15. Opp's sorry mod's think I posted this in the wrong section
  16. yep plan to have a fettle at it, even though I don't think I will be shooting it much due to it's age, their's no cracks it looks ok but best to be on the safe side, just enjoying having it. Bit sad what
  17. How do chaps, had a trip down memory lane yesterday. back in 1972 when I was ten one Saturday I was dragged around town with my mum and sisters shopping, I hated it (nothing has changed) in and out of shops we went, the last one I stayed outside next to it was a Sports/Fishing Tackle shop in the window was a Milbro catapult, this to me was the ultimate a proper cattie, up and till then I'd made all my own from lolly sticks and hair band to natural forks, loads of different ones, this one was my dream one, I decide I was going to have it, after 3 months of doing work around the house and garde
  18. Hello, it's Hazel, lovely wood to carve, thanks to this forum I've learnt not to varnish it like the other ones, have used some Neatsfoot oil, probably not the right stuff but that's all I've got at present, much better feel to it than the varnish. Atb Chisler
  19. I worked on it for 3 evenings, much to my wife's disgust, 'you are always in the workshop'. only used hand tools, knife and wood chisels, bit of a Luddite.
  20. Cheers for that, I was thinking of looped tubes on a multiplex fork, thanks for heads up on the choice of ply I will bear that in mind.
  21. Evening chaps, been raiding mother natures stock room again, I know their not as good as the ones you chaps have made which in my opinion are true works of art, but there all part of my learning curve, I'm thinking of trying a multiplex one next, also ordered some 1745 tubing to see how it performs. Oh and by the way I haven't hit my thumb lately Atb Chisler
  22. Hi Andy, new to catties myself, I have the bands tapered small end at the pouch larger end on the forks, i think this correct, Atb Chisler
