  1. The problem is that natural fish stocks are too low due to factors such as pollution, abstraction, etc, so killing more has a far greater impact than poaching a few rabbits. In the case of stocked fisheries, the cost of fish theft at this level is too high to sustain. Fair enough can understand why anglers would get the hump with them taking wild stock then but surely taking from stocked fisheries is just the same as taking birds from a shoot? Well apart from trout fisheries, the fish in stocked waters are not intended to be taken by anyone and cost time and money to replace

  3. Blimey, very sorry to see that. Do you know what bacteria type got you and did you have cut there first?
  4. Fair point about pest control - I'd forgotten they are now a pest species. However if you need to shoot them for pest control (because other means of deterrent have failed of course ), then a sub 12 air rifle is probably not the most efficient way to do it, but as other have said, I can't see anything wrong with a head shot within range. As to tonnes of shot, I would expect a competent shotgun user to place a pattern of no. 5 shot in the front third of the bird, including the head, as this is considered the best way to fell large fowl in flight, instead of the older method of using heavy l
  5. It's not considered sporting to shoot wildfowl and game birds when they are stationery. It is best to use a shot gun when they are in flight.
  6. I did about 20 votes, but it made no difference to the %age!
  7. Got it (and it's not there TC).
  8. Real creosote can still be bought, eg from here.
  9. I had the opposite problem with a neighbour's son using an air rifle as if it was a toy in a small garden and the pellets straying into our garden and even hitting the house. I had a chat, lent them a copy of an airgun magazine with a good article about shooting rabbits with sub 12 air rifles and that was all sorted.
  10. 12 pints of cider works for me.
  11. My condolences. RIP.
  12. What kind of farmer wants rabbits on his land? We were expected to reduce the population to a minimum on most permissions we had and then gas the remainder. Some rabbits on this land will be resistant and they will produce a new population in few years time. this will last until genetic mutations reduce the resistant population again. And so on for ever.
  13. As some-one did point out in this thread, this method of slaughter is also used by Jews, where it is known as Shechita, so it is not a practice confined to Muslims. In my opinion it is not necessary to kill in this way anymore.

  15. How do we know the article is accurate? I can't find it on any reliable sources

  17. One problem is if you have an FAC or SGC, then you can so easily have your weapons confiscated and even lose your licence by simply getting involved.
  18. Have you seen this!! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2929735/Shocking-moment-master-hunt-beaten-unconscious-balaclava-wearing-protesters-armed-iron-bars.html Also here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-31031411
  19. It's odd isn't it as that sounds a great opportrunity for some-one. Many years ago I took a job on a large farm with a free flat and hardly anyone else applied for it. I did have to work 7 days a weeks 12 hours a day though during the harvest .
  20. Its an excellent lens, but you are restricting yourself the wide angle end by going for the 28 - 300, on a cropped APS-C sensor camera especially for landscapes. The 16 - 300 may a better bet as then you won't need anything else. You do have to accept some compromises by getting a superzoom. However there's some reviews here and it is looking better than its predeccessor. Professional review also here
  21. If that page is a wind up, it's not wound up enough. I don't think it is a good idea to like something which claims to be a sabs page. Who built it?
  22. I found that some of the cheapos rip and some don't. BIC are the worst for me, yet those Tesco ones are fine. I also find that Wilkinson Sword last me about two useless shaves, whereas Gillette nearly 10 good ones!
  23. I get these cheap ones from Tesco - currently 30p for 5 and they last me over a week each if you are careful with them.
