  1. The rifle bare only weighs 8 1/2lb according to the specs, i think you might be better off getting 6 inches lopped off the barrel to improve the balance, i know the sps Tacticals have a 20" tube. What stock have you put on the rifle? When i was a kid i used to tramp for hours carrying a HW80 (weighed a ton), all shots were free standing and i never complained, know i am just a moaning old fart!!
  2. Going through the same thing myself with my 308 Howa, i bought the stainless varmint with laminate stock weighs around 10lb, cracking rifle for the rang but heavy for lugging about stalking. I have since put a stock on from Edi at PSE Composites and i am going to get the barrel chopped, the rifle then will be around 8lb bare, easily manageable especially with a niggeloh backpack sling, if you like it keep it.
  3. SOLDI have a Howa short action varmint barrel laminate stock for sale, excellent condition. Stock only £90 posted
  4. Do not know if you have seen them but these are good books, i have them all http://www.allotment.org.uk/book/ good website too for us landownwers
  5. Get a Burris Fullfield with ballistic plex off ebay from the states, cracking scopes and a great reticle. As for the Howas, well made, very accurate, heavy though. Love mine!!
  6. This might be worth a look http://www.ccc3.org.uk/?page=home
  7. I had a MTC Mamba 4/16x50, it was ok, big, heavy and iffy on higher mag. Sold it and bought a Fullfield 11 from the States (ebay) absolutely cracking scope, miles better.
  8. Same as this one? http://www.ibstocktackle.co.uk/hogan-firearms---decimeater-air-rifle-moderator-1276-p.asp
  9. Rabbits under 75 yards .22 rimfire, over 75 yards .17 HMR. Fox take your pick but make it a centrefire, .22 Hornet, .222, .223 etc
  10. 35 quid it tells you in the ad above
  11. Would not mind taking the pigskin bus to tuna town with her either
  12. He was the nutter who had photos of muzzled matches in his mag? Appeared in one of Ed Reids old videos and wrote some articles for Bull Terrier Times.
  13. Its in the Countrymans weekly, 82 quid.
  14. I shoot a Howa 308 without a mod or muzzle break, it has a MTc Mamba on it and is fine. The recoil is not that bad, you do lose sight picture but thats to be expected. Make sure you get decent rings and bases and your scope will be ok, i use Burris Zee rings and Leupold bases. regards
  15. I own a Howa 308 varmint s/s laminate, cracking piece of kit. They make guns for Weatherby not Remington, the Howa is a lot better than a similarly priced Remmy imo. Very accurate well made rifle, heavy though. Picked mine over a Tikka because the Tikka feels a bit flimsy and toylike to me.
  16. Both by Plummer , a tenner each including post Cheers
  17. This might help http://www.burrisoptics.com/mountchart1.html I have a set of high Burris Zee Rings on my Howa with a 4/16x50 mamba, only a couple of mil clearance.
  18. I used to walk a young bull terrier on a disused rail track, straight and see for miles. A horsey type old bag let her standard poodle run about 200 hundred yards and set about the pup, she did f**k all my dog was on the lead and thought it was great but did not really know what to do thankfully. A month or two later she lets it run over and knock me off the bike as i am excersing the dog, same carry on. Final time the dog is grown and knows whats what and would destroy her daft poodle, i see her about 200 yards away and start shouting to put her dog on the leash, she takes no notice of course
  19. Very good article in support of more athletic Staffords though, f**k what the RSPCA says anyway.
  20. I have had 2 english bulls and you could not pay me to feed another, the most stubborn, ignorant useless dogs i have ever known. One of them came from a lad that was trying to breed gameness into them and had very limited success before giving up and keeping pits. Another local dogman that had some famous dogs back in the 80s packed in with pit bulls and kept ebts and miniature ebts, he reckoned the miniatures were a lot more fiery (still useless though). It may well be a different story in other countries but there are better breeds for everything you may want a dog for here.
  21. Paid about £25v on Ebay for mine, charity is still on British Blades and might be able to get one for you. The blade is 440c, takes a really good edge.
  22. Whats the finland knife fair up like? I was looking at the very same knife before i opted for the clipper. Is the Benchmade Rant a full tang? all nice knives, but the Rant catches my eye. The handle of the Rant unscrews, cracking knife, razor sharp. think the new version is different
  23. Couple of fixed blades, top to bottom Magnum Camp Bowie, Benchmade Rant, Frosts Mora. the Benchmade is a excellent knife, frost great for the price and so is the magnum.
  24. I have a laminate varmint s/s Howa bought it a month ago (not thumbhole) they have put there prices up now, i paid £750 screwcut for mine in this months Sporting Rifle the thumbhole has a RRP of £740 blued/ £840 s/s. Looked at a T3 lite and it was a bit toy like the stock is flimsy and the mag is plastic. The Howa is a lot more solidly built, but a lot heavier too. you pays your money....
