  1. Hi man. There's a post on YouTube regarding this, a chap tests a pellets penetration, I think in .22, on a bird, in this case a wood pigeon that has already been shot. The bird is literally in half, and with him aiming at the centre bone running within the pigeons breast, fired shots, very accurately actually. The pellet did indeed pass right through the pigeons breast bone, and though the rest of the bird. You should check it out, or have a search about it. Re your main question. I use .177 on any corvids, there feathers can be like damn armour, so find this drops um very efficiently. To
  2. Nice one Pink. Pm sent to him. Probs gone though.
  3. Hello... your Varmint still for sale man? Pm sent.
  4. Anyone else getting broken links re the avatar? Its no doubt my own machine here at work...
  5. Nice one man... As you may have read though, having held and looked through a Nikon Monarch... Im leaning that way. Probably end up with a Varmint anyway
  6. Check um out Skot... Nikon Prostaff and Monarch range... properly nice.
  7. Proper recommend the Nikon Prostaff series. The quality of optics is far better than any Hawke model, within reason, imo. You dont get 'that many' nobly bits though. Im hoping to get a 4 x 32 fixed for my 97 or maybe the 2 - 7 x 32... Old school duplex reticule too... none of this mil dot chit chat. Well built and solid. Also highly recommend the Falcon Optics models... Tad heavy but this works well with a recoiling springers such as yours, the Menace on top of my 98 works a dream, tactical turrets are good, with positive clicks. Just got a Nikko Stirling MountMaster... no offensive but I
  8. Dont you find there a bit heavy for the spring? I tried these in my 97, and with it zero'd with FTT's the drop @ 30 yards was about 4 inches...
  9. Nice one skot, I'll check it out.
  10. These any good fellas? Unsure if any members use one. The price seems bang on... The idea is there to pair one with a 97, but wondered what they are actually like in real life use? Are there any other models similar quality/price? It'll mainly be used in the field, rather than on the course. Many thanks in advance.
  11. 95 and a hawke then... You will not regret it. Get one in your shoulder and see how it feels.
  12. 28 yards my man. It's suits the set up for the 98 and FTT's, for me anyway. Although I'm find the flight path as so uncurved from 13 to 35 yards I could perhaps lower it. It works well with the hft course I shoot at. The 22 97 is a different story...
  13. Looks sweet that mate. Proper. Something of a 'experienced' look to it... Needs some bigger glass up top though
  14. You'll pick up a sorted kit with a budget like that... Go HW mate. 95 maybe. Hawke air max or something on top, it would be so sound. I'm almost convincing myself. That's gotta be around your budget, easy. Best wishes.
  15. Your posts are a nice read man. I would have to agree with your points... Even though I don't own a 95, shot one a few times, and owning a 98 and 97, I can imagine it being everything they are other than mass. I was out this morning... Nothing better than a Sunday morning, while the mrs is stuck in bed with a stinking hangover, me and the dog can get out for a bit distance is only 28 yards...
  16. Having just briefly read your post mate, I can assume the rifle isn't shooting as tight as you thought it might..? I found this with me scorpion SE when I picked that up. People do say its easy to just pick up a PCP, especially a shit hot one like an ultra and shoot great, but it isn't 'really' that simple. It could be down to the pellets no doubt, but stick with it (any decent brand will be fine, I use FTT's in mine and I'd highly recommend them) and really sort out your hold, breathing and refine your technique. The groups will be sweet within a few weeks. I personally went the PCP rout
  17. That is one lovely mk1 man. Shoots like the day you got it no doubt. Also nice to see an old Skool (nowadays) Simmons granite 50 too.
  18. Awesome image man. There's something of a warm feeling when you see such a group of fellas like that. Question is, how do you choose a job, as such, for each rifle when they'll all do the same job?
  19. Bug. We're so on mate. Small money earner here
  20. Second mr ruthless. The under lever you feel for the end of the barrel within the breech. A break barrel could be a bit trickier, but I think you get used to it super quick. You going for the 'imp'? I think, it's just a modded 99... Is the stock as good as it could be? Lightweight though compared to the others.
  21. If you knew me... I struggle to boil the kettle. Its easy to do and well worth it. The spring comes straight out, no pressure or load on it. Anyway. The choice of course is yours Best wishes man.
  22. Sort out whatever feels right to you. Any of the Hawke range will be sweet. In fact one of the members is flogging two of his Hawkes... A1WOC. Might be worth a pm. Dont get a bipod... Pellets wise, trail and error indeed. Bear in mind that 177 does kick slightly more than a 22. Hope it all goes well man
  23. Bloody SFS. Spreads like a virus. [For obvious reasons of course ] Get a HW mate, tune it yourself, you'll know the rifle better and feel sorted that you have something thats 'yours'. I had PCP's all before I started shooting a springer too, took the jump, got a 98 and v-mached it, I wouldnt look back now, Im a better shooter for it and there just as accurate as an PCP within reason. Best of luck with it all.
