got my rebarreled m595 back at last in 17 rem fireball
jamie g replied to jamie g's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
i deker i had the action already and the barrel blank come along cheap. but it was a 1 in 10 twist thats why i went for the fireball as if i went for the 17 rem I would have preferred a 1 in 9 twist. for the 25 vmax. the rifle was built so I could use it on some land I have permission on where the ground is not very hilly in places. and well i still know care has to be taken the 17 fb is ideal for such land due to the very rare exit on foxes etc. it will also be used on pigeons and rabbits. i like the fact it doesnt use much powder, low recoil, and dumps all the ftlb in the quarry -

Personally I would have left it with Richard until the rest of the work required to make the mag, bolt, and extractor work properly had been done. As I detest having any firearm that doesn't function as required. Always a problem when you decide to adapt a donor action. Such niggling teething problems are behind my decision to keep my Tikka 17Rem as spec when I rebarrell it this year, and continue putting up with the variable quality Remington manufactured brass rather than moving over to a MachIV. hi mate i just wanted the rifle back. I will see how I get on with it. and if it I re -
well got back from holiday in north Devon saturday dinner time. and then had the gun smith call to say the tikka m595 action we had given him alone with a unchambered shilen stainless match barrel had been fitted, chambered, screw cut and crowned, invisible thread cap and proofed. was going to have the barrel bead blasted but I prefer it as it is to be fair. also with a bit of wet and dry it can take the marks off it easy if it gets knocked about. off to reloading solutions on Thursday to get the remaining reloading bits and bobs for it and cleaning items. then I will do some load testi

sorry mate never used that in mine. i think if you want to push a 40 or 50 grain bullet in the 222 your better off looking at some powder which is abit faster then benchmark. like vit 133 or reloader 7 powder

jamie g replied to cookey's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
hi is the rifle new. if not how is the crown on it. i know not all factory ammo suites all rifles but i would expect much better groups then that even with the worst factory ammo ! sounjds like there could be a problem with te rifle. also when you try the ammo what do you rest on bipod, bag, are you on a bench or on the floor ? -
a mate of mine from wiltshire has one and it is deadly accurate. as the guy above said though make sure the barrel is in good nick. i explain thi sworry to the gunsmith selling it. and tell him if you cant get some good groupings with it you want the money back !

if its really accurate I would worry about ringing some extra speed out of it. well some fast calibre rifles can run big speeds like the 204,22/250 220 swift there best accuracy isn't always at the top end of the speed

hi guys a mate of mine has a tikka t3 varmint in the black plastic stock and blued action. its screwcut 5/8 thread and proofed when he got it the barrel wasnt much good so he had riflecraft put him one on which is in good nick. shoots very well he is looking for £400 for the rifle. can offer the buyer some stainless optiloc rings and bases if they want and has redding dies for sale also. these are not for sale on there own but will offer the rifle buyer them if he wants

i take it you have a wooden stock remmy and have tried some paper up it to see if its floated. If so take it out the action get a piece of dowel and sand paper and sand the channel take abit off at a time and keep checking. once you have floated it enough. seal the barek timber you have took off. let that dry then put your action back in

good rifle the t3 tikka mate. if he is also looking at secondhand rifles look at the tikka m595 and sako vixen 223 rifles also.
