  1. I have a CZ 452 HMR,synthetic, with stainless barel, soon to be cerakoted. My first rim fire if truth be told. I wasn't really intending on buying it but I needed something in the gun shop, and it was on the shelf, and I had a slight moment of weakness,I'd just been paid, and it was cheap £250 with a Hawke scope and £20 for the moderator. Nearly unused condition I'd say. It seems to like remington & hornady 17gr,because that's all I can get really and I like it. If there's a rabbit in the cross hairs, it's game over, accurate to the point it's not even funny. I'm saving for a yukon ph
  2. thanks mate but a bit far away would prob cost me more in fuel than I paid for rifle Sorry pal, The whole myriad of reproofing after threading is a complete grey area, and some smiths recommend it,some don't. I know James does a cracking job for what some may charge way over £100. You could always post the rifle to him, or anyone you chose if distance is an issue, minus the bolt of course.
  3. James Clark in colchester, i imagine something like £60 ish all in. He'll probably do it while you wait, top bloke.
  4. Cheers Sambo. A lot of show breeds, which to some extent I didn't mind, price some wanting £800/£900 a pup, again that initself didn't put me off. An imported dog would have been between £1200 - £1800 I eventually got mine from Nick Vallentine in Hereford, who started using the breed exclusively from the mid 70's. A lot of his progeny came from Spain,Iceland & Germany. He's also the standard size wirehaired, and I really liked the look of the parents,he's not KC registered, which added a considerable hike in price. atb AT
  5. Firstly, I am no expert at all, and prior to me buying my first Teckel, I did a lot of homework. Visited numerous litters, to politely and difficultly declined, followed and chased with loads of emails, phone calls etc, until I settled on my dog pup. I came close to importing a pup from Germany, but sadly the language barrier was too much of a hurdle. His main use will be to accompany me deer stalking, and to trail any deer that run. My main stalking is my syndicate ground in Scotland, and over heather and clear fell he's like shit off a shovel. There's absolutely no stopping him,
  6. How much of a saving do you think will be? I've only been on two trips, and only shot 1 boar in Croatia. Both trips were really enjoyable,my first was France, and I never shot anything, but it was a great experience. I'd be interested in any future trips you might have. Stb AT
  7. I'm late in replying so apologies. You'll have to travel,Bedfordshire for the CWD although muntjac are spreading Bedfordshire is the best bet. CWD will be finishing soon, although muntjac can be stalked throughout the year winter is best when the covers dropped and they'll be in celvet in summer Google muntjakstalker, close to Bedfordshire plenty of deer. Someone referenced the SD which is deer stalking specific,Im sure theres guides on there that will take you out,you wont be shooting them at 300 yrds tho...

  10. very kind of you Johnny, glad their working. The Welsh Dee is like a yo yo at the minute.
  11. Czech nymphing this time of year.Heavy weight nymphs to sink right down, as grayling are bottom feeders and have a down mouth like carp. Sheimp caddiss imitations, theres some nice worm and maggott flies around too. I can tie you a few if you like. http://www.czechnymphs.co.uk/Shop/
  12. I'd go for a second hand schmidt & bender personally. Will hold its value, quality glass and wont cost the earth and will last a long time. R Mcleod & Son in Scotland carry a really good selection of new & used optics, real genuine honest guy in his descriptions of his scopes and fast delivery. http://www.rmacleod.co.uk
  13. Fynnon gain gun dogs down in south wales Many FTC from the infamous pockley adder and pockley Remus. I have a daughter to a FTC,and in someone else's hands she'd be a much better dog. I think there are a lot more people out there these days not just john holstead. I have never heard of any difference in a dogs ability be in black white or chocolate. Mines white and it hasn't affected flighting geese, pigeons, ducks or deer stalking. Buying from top percentage does give you some sort of good chance at a good pup, but nothing's guaranteed. Pups are expensive, choose wisely and good
  14. I took mine with me last weekend stalking up to Scotland on the stags. I was a little apprehensive as to how he'd cope on the heather and clear fell, but he was good as gold, tenacious little guy and extremely 1 person dog. Good luck in you're search, there are some good imported litters about but i suggest you try the uk teckel dociety.
  15. I have an orvis frequent flyer 9' 6# rod (7 pieces travel rod) in tube vgc with Orvis mac iii reel and floating line. I am slowly working through my gear and these seem to be collecting dust. VGC and quality gear, looking fir £165 posted the lot. Ill tie some flies to get any one started foc Also a sciera ferox 10' 8# rod with tube and sciera d lite reel with floater, sinker ,sink tip all totally unused and as new £100 posted ideal sea trout/saltwater outfit for someone
  16. Im using vhit n160 39gr with 100gr sierra game kings or similar. The t3 like anything between 75-85 gr bullets. I use it all fallow, roe, red and muntjac. Without knowing your specific issue, its hard to diagnose a way forward. But generally i would make a batch of three bullets in three weights. Obviously working between min and max case load etc. Then ud develop that load by adj the lands with an ogive tool. Ive personally found 20thou the t3 will easily clover leaf with my lhome loads.
  17. If its fitted with a moderator,id take that off after every firing, regardless of caliber or shots put through. Id invest in a decent cleaning rod,jag and some solvents, and a bore guide. Some people don't clean their rifles hardly ever, some after every shot,I've personally found no difference at all in where the shot goes from a clean to a dirty rifle. I'll clean after 10 shots or so,or after I've been out and had some bad weather. Mike Noriss has some excellent videos on cleaning. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N0yDXzDIOw
  18. Bump and price drop to £350,realy is quality glass, just cant keep it with the sale of the scope.
  19. I'm in the process of training my first deer dog,a teckel. I'm training him to follow blood,as well as walking by my side to indicate deer,so far it's all going smooth, but he's a tenacious little guy, very very loyal, and extremely strong willed. I've done some very small tracks from when he was 10weeks,hes now 7months old and will scent with little blood over several hours. There is a few good books, your country man john jeaneny who uses the breed exclusively, neil sonderguard's book also worth a buy. i am by no means an expert, but there is a big difference between a dog that can fin
  20. I tie the sedgehog/hedgehog patterns a lot,a combination of muddler heads, and staked deer hair along the body so it looks almost like a hedgehog or half hog as their sometimes called. Usually with traditional wets,or just muddlers with wet patterns, bibio muddler, kate muddlers etc like dries. The majority of my fishing is wild lochs and reservoirs here in North Wales for the wild brownies and they seem to work well.
  21. Flies these days are tied to catch the fisherman, not the fish. having said that, what works 100 years ago, still works today. Id try and keep to half a dozen of each type,in various sizes. Dries: Daddies,Hoppers, sedge,f fly,cdc shuttlecock, adams, Wets: Traditional loch style Irish dabblers, kate mclaren, bibio, snatchers, Nymphs: Pheasant tail(ptn short),hares ear, diawl bach, olice, claret and black buzzers of various designs. Lures: Cats Whiskers,Dancers, blobs, Pike/mullet Usually very ugly attraction patters to agitate the fish, zonkers, sand eel type patterns, and larger versions of
  22. TBH,you will struggle to find any estate in the country to accomodate 10 stalkers, especially on red stags in Scotland. Why don't you mix it up with a rough shoot or walked up day with a week in a bothy/cottage,or on the geese, you and your best man head out on the hill for the stags. I know of a guy who could accomodate 10 in high seats on muntjac/roe if thats any help,he's not far from Cambridge.
