  2. I'm so glad I'm not being a numpty ;-) as I really enjoy the added catty fun while walking the pooch ;-)
  3. Right before I get hammerd for an amature mistake if I've made one I'm new ish to catty hunting is it normal for game to hear (and move ) before the shot hits home ? I've shot rats while fishing only 5 yards max I'm useing a strike 9 black widow while I make my own before I get told there crap I'm only using it while I make my own ;-) I've had a go at a woody an a couple bunnys all moved just before the shot hit home 1 I know was def a miss even if it didn't move but the other 2 I watched the shot hit or pass where the animal was before it moved so my Q is can they hear it before the shot hit
  4. Matt that's a shame to hear that is your view of pest controlling I'm not in it to make make it rich just want to make a living is it really that hard to make ends meat ?
  5. im assuming the round formed elastics are more consistant the flat elastics look a bit hap hazzard i may be wrong though in all honesty i like the old school version but need to be told by someone who knocks down alot to show me there as good or better i need to be converted lol
  6. as above ive moved house and lost my catty a pro diablo great little catty only used for target and rats while fishing but i see all your pics your all old school flat elastics and wood cattys must admit looks the nuts in pics but how good are they ? compared to the more advanced cattys ? i want to buy another catty soon but want it to be flat in my pocket small accurate as it can be and consistant i keep leaning to the more modern cattys but there not compact enough so any ideas greatly appreciated also whats fair ? all vermin i suppose but any critters not allowed ?
  7. Yh I am on a sindicate that's 625 plus rod licence and 4 club tickets oh an a couple day tickets all mount up
  8. I'm just looking at it as free perm is great but thinking about it if I had to pay I wouldn't be botherd that much as I've mentioned before I pay for fishing tickets just totted them up and it's easily over £1200 a year and I only really fish march untill oct
  9. just going through the free adds and saw an ad for pest control an willing to pay for written perm got me thinking I pay an awefull lot of money each year for fishing tickets I know I'm not doing the owner of the fishery a favour but I'm partaking in my hobby is that any different ?
  10. As topic says who pays for permission and as a rule how would you work out how much is a resonable amount ie per acre or or just a couple nights of free beer down the pub for the farmer/land owner. I know all land is different holds different numbers but any comments welcome
  11. I'm on the Somerset levels and I will be honest I haven't seen as many as I have in previous years but that prob due to the floods ;-(
  12. Mine don't need to be fighting fit just like to keep him well exercised in general I was just wondering how others do there fitness in this weather as lots talk about getting dogs fit a couple months before the season an I was thinking how on earth do they do it in 25degrees lol
  13. Skates now there's an idea :-) can see it ending in tears though def mine ;-)
  14. Wish I could got loads of beaches within 10 or 20min from me but think it's the holiday capital for the traveling midlanders ;-) on a serious note though my beaches are either closed to dogs packed with holiday makers or too many other dog walkers had a couple near misses with yapy toy dogs mine don't take kindly to them annoying him
  15. iWorkwhippets your pics are always great wish I had those camera skills atb
  16. Mine gets about 4miles give or take along a river in the evening or sometimes around mid day I'll take him to an area of dense woods on the hills quite nice and cool there even when 30+ in the sun I was just wondering what others do in this heat seems almost the same as me
  17. I've read many times about keeping your dogs fit all year or starting on conditioning bike work an so on a few months before the season starts this all makes sense to have a fully fit dog when the season starts but the weather is so so hot at the moment and I think it will be right up to the start of the season so my question is how do you all keep your dogs proper fit I exercise mine at cooler times of day but it's still stupidly hot
  18. I agree trouble is no one I know of in My area owns or runs them so If I end up with one it will be either of here or off the net with the right breeding that's why I'm asking about different percentage crosses
  19. I would one day like another bull cross but have not been in the game long enough to know what percentage crosses are best I've read that some crosses throw back to one side or another just don't want to end up with a really bull heavy lurcher I was lucky with my dog out of 6 pups I've seen pics of atleast 3 are heavy the other 3 mine included are quite racy little dogs I'm considering maybe a bull x grey or a bull /whippet/grey any suggestions greatly appreciated
  20. Hi yes I have thought about savings I am planning on dealing with this by way of keeping my permante job going as long as poss untill work picks up enough for me to survive on pest control earnings my job at the moment gives a lot of time off it works out I only work about 100 days a year so have plenty of time off
  21. hi thanks for the replies I am guessing this venture may not be as easy as first thought but this is what I want to do even if I end up working for a company I think I will be happy but self employed is the goal though anything is better than factory work well payed I am but not truly happy one question is is the rsph2 the only ticket I need to operate ie buy the substances I need to complete my jobs
  22. Thankyou for your reply I thought that's what I needed but wanted to hear it from someone who's actually doing the job any particlar reason so many go under ?
  23. I am also from somerset and find people think lurchers are cool and unusual in towns that's what ive been told when walking mine buts lets face it the lurcher was bread to put food on the table and a smile on its owners face both I have :-) I will be honest I have not been in the game as long as some but I can say for sure we all at some time or another watched our dog/dogs in the field and feel a feeling that is unexplainable when your dog shows its hunting prowess in the field
  24. hi all I am looking to start my own pest control busness I am keen to learn and open to ideas I have a full time job with lots of time off that I will keep going until its viable to give it up what I would like to know is what qualifications do I need if any and what do I need in the way of cirtifications to buy pesticides and the poisons I will need to forfill my job I am in no rush to get going I have given myself a year or two to get up and running and any advice would be greatly appreciated even if it is don't bother its not worth it as long as you can explain why many thanks
