  1. Thanks yes I am cosidering doing this but dose it expire at all as if I cannot get a .243 for a year or two and it expires or runs out if it dose that it is then a waste of money ! If I only have a .22 on my ticket ! I will def do the dsc before I actually go out in the field on deer or if I am adding a .243 to my licence I'm also looking at will I actually be granted an fac as I live in rented accommodation and the landlord has keys to the property I live in
  2. Hi firstly I have no rifle this is where I will start my questions I have flew the nest and rent my own home with my partner and son how would be the best way to be granted an fac if I can even get one straight away without owning a shotgun licence for a while ? Then if I could be granted one from the off I can get permission so will have reason to have a rifle should I I be certificated as a stalker what ever the qualification is before I apply for an fac ? Also I would like a 243 for foxing and deer is it possible to own one as a first rifle or should I work up from a .22 rim fire first any
  3. Hi chap an welcome umm no I won't make a difference as long as you are happy with the nets if there used for bramble hedge runs then thinner won't last quite so long being ripped out my personal opinion as made nets for ages best to make in my opinion is hemp best to look at easy to find in the field spun nylon if double knotted its brilliant stuff yet to use spun poly seems a pain to make from what I've herd so ain botherd
  4. Are you going to take him out on the lamp at all ? If so get a couple soft toys and cut the reflective strip off a hi viz jacket and stitch it to the toy only has to be rough and throw them flick the lamp on so he sees it goes after it and brings bk repeat this at further distances until happy then go out place toys without the dog get the dog and lamp the toys until he gets them all I read on a pup lamp training post online even if you don't intend to lamp it's great fun an the pup will love the new element of training/ play in the dark just grab a good size torch to save buying a lamp
  5. One thing I've tryed but stopped because I thought the pup was going to kill it is showing them ferrets I have to try again now he is older but if you can get them use to each other early that's great
  6. At 12weeks mine was going out for walks seeing new things walking past livestock until he was no longer interested in it most important is the retrieve I'm still struggling to get mine to do it every single time good luck with the pup though chap
  7. You will get plenty of interest in this post I can assure you of that I mentioned something simalar yesterday my pup 7 months was told by most to keep on the lead and mouth rabbits at that age some will say start running but I have decided to wait until late spring and run on easy bunnys by then he will be almost a year an run properly next winter but I'm fairly new to the pup training thing so I dnt know much but will say people will give you plenty of food for thought how old is your pup ?

  10. You don't hunt around secret world do you :-) them idiots take in injured foxes and fox cubs feed them on dog food until there big enough to release then just see you later!! foxes with no way to hunt as they don't know how disgraceful behavior my mate was night fishing a lake a few miles away and 5 young foxes tried to break into his bivvie at 3am because of the smell of his bait / food even whacking with sticks did not deter them
  11. Yh mate seen plenty in my area every 3 or 4 fields I see 1 average some places like last wk counted at least 5 in one field it was a big field though

  17. Right I was always under the impression lamping was Easyer on the dog than running bunnys in daylight am I wrong ? If I shouldn't run him until he is older would it not be worse him coursing a daylight bunny that's slipped the net and already full pelt as the dog sees it instead of a bunny on the squat on the lamp that has a standing start as the dog gets to it ? Or did I miss interpret the ferreting idea and I need to keep the dog on the lead and just mouth bunnys caught in nets ?
  18. whoever started there pup at 6 months old needs to give there head a wobble. the dog is still a pup its 6 months old LET IT BE A PUP. you say your trying to teach it to sit, stay, retrive, and he does this when he wants.... and on top of learning how to do this your taking him out and slipping him on rabbits? its a bit much for a 6 month old dog if he only retrives when he wants whats going to happen when he catches his first rabbit?. that's when bad habbits start get the basics nailed before you even think about slipping him. hold the pup back let it mature there isn't a rush the summer would b
  19. Sesku why would you not run doubled up on the lamp with a pup ? My thinking is that would be a good way to show the pup or an I wrong ?
  20. Can someone help with uploading pics to posts as I'm struggling to find out how to do it and how do you know if my post had been deleted or just not approved yet as I may have put a word or two of txt spk in there without realising :-) thanks in advance for any help
  21. Hi yes I have thought about ferreting but have yet to introduce him to my ferrets as the first time I showed them to him he looked like he was going to kill it so left it for a while and as for starting early every1 I know starts at either 6 or 9 months I am awear of people waiting for a year or more but not sure of all the reasoning behind this there is no rush but I would like give him a start this winter so he know what to do rather not run in the warmer months as ground hard an puts extra pressure on the with increased heat but I'm open to all ideas so I can make an educated decision
  22. Hi new to the site and sort of new to the lurcher game I've been out plenty of times ferreting with lurchers and lamping over the years but have my first lurcher pup he is almost 7 months old dame bull cross whippet sire greyhound cross collie 19 an a half / 20" tts lovely dog will add a pic later today once I can work out how to do it what I have done so far training wise is normal sit stay retrieve (when he wants to need to keep working on it ) I've had him retrieving toys with hi viz reflectors stitched on off the lamp at distances up to 50yd ish he's been out watching my mates dogs on the
