  7. i reckon the sales of the new collar will be a disappointment to deben, i doubt very much that i'll buy them, just hope they don't discontinue the current collars
  8. went over to andys yesterday to show him how to go on, very nice bloke, listened intently, took it all in and was setting purse nets properly in no time sadly, due to the land and condition of the undergrowth, we were unable to put his two polecat hob kits down ( a bit too scarey for them for the first run out ) so we just run a longnet out one side, dog at the other side, set a few purse nets and stuck my ferts in, bolted a few, back netted one and had a good morning i'd just like to say a big thanks to andy and his wife for their hospitality and trust in inviting a hairy arsed scruff

  10. mk2 and mk3 collars are the same mate, just the box thats different
  11. one of my jills does the same every year, moults her summer coat before the winter coat grows ! dunno why, the other two jils moult as the new one grows, she goes almost bald for a few days then a week later the new coat is grown, i wouldn't worry too much, if i work her when she's moulting, she normally comes out with no fur on her belly, back and top of the head, must be where she rubs on the tunnels i suppose, quite funny to look at
  12. i bought a falcon one at a show last year, it is now full of spanners and stuff in the garage, my ferts had a REAL BAD dislike for it, put a fert in and two minutes later, all hell would break loose, take the fert out and all is well, i persevered for a while, even put a piece of ply in the base as a last resort, in the end one of the hobs started getting nasty every time it saw it so it had to go.....weird thing is my mates two kits didn't seem bothered at all.....they both stank like toilets on arrival though, even though he drilled holes in the bottom to let the piss out, filled it with var
  13. household dimmer will be no good, go to maplin and ask them for a 2K inline potentiometer, they do them in a slide version or a dial version, i use the slide ones because they are easier to operate one handed (mine are stuck to the handle of the lamp where my thumb sits) cost about £4 and have wiring instructions included, my 170, 140 and all three clusons have them now
  14. i have trouble with the grommits, i had so much hassle with them i use bits of bicycle inner tube these days, top one tight and bottom one a bit loose so it moves as you push the stake in, much better than grommits plus one £2.75 inner tube makes over 70 bands
  15. had a few hours on sunday with sam ward and his new pup bonnie, took my dog shadow and let them have run round, took the ferrets as well, netted the outer holes and left the centre holes open, much fun ensued sam took his terrier paddy as well, we may have the start of a decent team ! a good day ended with shadow picking a fight with paddy and getting bitten on the nose got a few bunnies though shadow at work bonnie waiting and watching the end result
  16. ferrets don't need worming mate, they digest food so quickly that worms are unable to stay in the gut for long enough to grow, although some people do worm their ferrets, they don't require it. in my humble opinion, i don't think it wise to worm kits anyway.
  17. a lot of people will disagree with me on this but, my experience is.........i've had hobs castrated three times now and following the op, two of them went from good workers to showing absolutely no interest in working, it was almost as if the hunting instinct was removed at the same time, instead of being a lively handfull, both of them would have been at home being dressed up by some loony American and fed baby food ! the other one still worked but lost his bully the bugger's out ability, i will never ever castrate a hob again.....in my opinion, if you work your hobs, think hard before cast
  18. leave it with my mum for a couple of weeks, he WILL come back fat
  19. that new collar is actually a very good idea, it seems to allow you to remove one section so you can use it on small jills, then you can put the other bit back on for fat hobs !
  20. i'm getting really peed off with all the ferrets available being miles away from me, has anyone used a courier for the transportation of ferrets ? i'm after a couple of working jills that live together, i have seen quite a few but they have been in scotland and way down south, i'm in the midlands (derby to be precise) and don't mind travelling....just not to scotland.......so has anyone used a courier ?
  21. perhaps if you filled in your profile, we would know where you are and how old you are, you never know someone might offer to show you the ropes if they are near you
  22. my asexual fert is much much skinnier than that, he has no meat on him at all, he can eat for england and works superbly, he drags my albino jill round like shes a kit and she is hob sized, could the wretching just be a bit of heatstroke ?
  23. i have two jills, if i go near the cages they both pace up and down frantically till i pick them up, two minutes of fuss, put them back and they no longer pace, just happy to see me i guess
  24. top bloke, a genius with rapids and does a cracking cuppa. a pleasure and privilege to know....all the best eddie
