if you cross a pedigree sight hound with a pedigree collie say then you will have pups that are 50-50 because there are only a set amount of genes and they are two distinct types. So the pups will all have half of the mothers and half of the fathers genes. Once you cross a lurcher or non pedigree type into the mix with the afore mentioned pups things becomes more complex. Say you take a 1st cross collie greyhound from a known true blood mating and put a Bedi whippet stud over it some people would tell you the pups will be 1/4 whippet 1/4 collie 1/4 bedlington and 1/4 greyhound. They won't

I work nice wee bedi whippets over hear in Ireland and they are deadly at taking down foxes, why would you need a big heavy dog for a prey animal that is so light? The fox can fight back granted but if the dog is any good it hits it hard and despatches it with no big dramas.

Jeez that's a hard one There is people that will tell you their mutt is 1/8th this and 1/16th that etc....................Bollix! The soup of genetics in the average lurcher on lurcher mating can mean every pup in the litter is a different combination, and the likelihood of getting and even predictable fraction of the separate gene pools is pretty remote in my opinion.

How do! Aye life gets busy when you have a few animals around the place

It's a busy life been a dog man Good old nights work well done!

It sounds like everything was just spot on for you, well done. Those are the nights that will stay with you and will get relived time and again!

Good morning and welcome to the forum. Have a good season mate!

I find now that I am older I have plenty of time to keep my dogs in top condition and also plenty of time to get 'em out working. So I would say my expectations are higher because I put so much into them. Having said that I have learned a lot over the years and now have the patience to work with a dog properly and smooth out any niggles.

Mine was having to shoot my daughters Bedi-whippet last winter when it turned Mutton duffer in front of the farmer who's land we were on. It was a litter mate to Northernlite's Wee Tess and had been raised with livestock from 8 weeks, never shown any bad tendencies and was well used to working day and night among sheep. I haven't a clue what snapped in her wee head but she was hard behind a fox on the mountain side and we were stood with the land owner watching, she went in to a bit of a dip after the boyo and didn't emerge so we took a quick hike up. When we got there she had one of your man'

Anybody Ever Received One Of These?
Stigodadump replied to davis8008's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If we are working in Comanche territory someone always stays on watch near the vehicle but out of sight, its best not to be wearing a pile of camo gear if you are the watch man and just wander out zipping your fly up if someone turns up. It seems to work ok for us. -
I don't mind a bit of light rain and the wind is always a bonus but the rain we had today and still have for that matter, is the stuff you see in cartoons................you know where they draw a load of straight lines! My lamp wouldn't penetrate that crap, never mind the extra weight them fluffy mongrels of mine would be carting around
-
If it quits raining I will be off for a wee shine about but at the moment it is coming straight down!

I reckon you could end up ruining a fine looking animal at that rate. He needs to develop in the engine room and bone departments before he is run hard or he will end up blown and crippled with arthritis at no age.

I have border X lakeland terriers and work them with my bedi whippets with good effect. To be fare the lurchers are great in cover on their own apart from being silent but it's not a problem to me because one dog in and two watching usually does the trick. The Bedlington line gives them great nose and usually a tough coat, you could do a lot worse than getting a nice wee first cross that will take anything except hares.

This is a 2.5TD 1998 as well. It will do 42mpg on a long run or around 32 dodging about local. Towing the loaded tri-axle drops it to around the 26 mark but it will pull my 3 tonne digger up anything and not break sweat! The V&M diesel engine has a bad reputation in the head department but like any vehicle, if they are well serviced you can't go wrong.

Sausage Making Machine - Any Recommendations?
Stigodadump replied to Beefbeefbeef's topic in Cooking On The Wild Side
I use an old fashioned hand mincer with the sausage spout on the end. It's the sort you clamp to the table. Here's a similar one http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/italian-cast-iron-mincer-no5/576474-1000?gclid=CPeSkfGH-7kCFRPItAodGBgAvQ We use it for doing all our own sausages whether they are from the annual oinker or bambi and co. It isn't very fast and it takes two to make decent shape sausages but it's grand for what we need. I have seen people taking the handle off and powering them with a cordless drill! -
These old tubs are one of the most underestimated 4x4 vehicles out there. I have owned this one for about a year now and it will pull anything and plug across boggy ground and very rough terrain. It is not as spacious as a shogun or such like but it more than makes up for it in the ground clearance and flexibility departments. I use mine with the rear seats folded down and a dog guard on the back of the front seats. I can drive into a field, light up the victim and press the rear window switch to release one of the dogs. I have a twin compartment dog box in the back as well and it still leaves

Them stripy boys are getting merry in my orchard at the moment, I don't know if they are Pished or happy but they are certainly not in full command of their faculties! Some amount of rain today boys, trouble is it won't know when to stop.

Looks might win rosettes and praise from your mates but it's how they work that really matters. I've had some Fugly b*****ds over the years that could fill the game bag and I've had some show stoppers that moved well enough but had empty heads. Good luck mate

Good man yourself! pitty there aint more like minded people out there

Terrier Work N Ireland
Stigodadump replied to cmagill5488@gmail.com's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Be aware that the suits are also on the forums checking out for wee titbits of info to catch people out, trust only those you know, don't discus meet ups on the net or mobile phone and never take a phone out with you when using dogs. They are often used as trackers and in placing people at the "scene" in evidence. Good luck with your quest mate! -
I have a hare that usually has it's leverets in the field where I store my round bales, I have seen it and the young pop into the gaps at the bottom of the bales like rabbits when the buzzards are overhead. This happens for a week or two and then the family spreads out and can be seen individually around the other fields, I wonder if this behaviour will be passed on to further generations? she has been in the same field for three years doing this. Incidentally I won't hunt hares because they are in decline round here due to changing farming practices. I think a lot of the deaths occur when
