  1. Hi Stuey and welcome. It's an annoying trait that effects some breeds more than others and it is the cause of more spoilt dog/owner relationships than anything else I know of. I find that it's a case of going back to basics and working with the dog as if it were a pup again, I work in a walled garden so there is a limited area for the dog to go and really praise it when it comes back. It is not a battle of wills so no matter how cross you feel don't show it, if you feel like sticking your boot up it's arse walk away! Don't raise your voice the dog is being awkward it aint deaf, raised
  2. It's not often us Paddies are complaining about it been too dry! it's usually too feckin wet! I don't really have a problem with dry hard ground with my dogs, I aren't keen on hard frosty ground unless it's covered in a good wad of rough grass. My bedi whippets don't seem to be to troubled by bad conditions, they have good feet and get plenty of road work to keep 'em right.
  3. Welcome to the forum mate and also back into the lurcher world. Good luck with your dog
  4. Welcome to the forum. You are one lucky person having a Job like that! it is what most of the people on here would call heaven!
  5. She's looking well mate, great condition, an absolute credit to you!
  6. We tend to vary the brand of wormer every so often to stop any immunity building up in the dogs. I don't know if it is possible in canines but it certainly is in cattle. We keep a dozen cows and our vet told me to change the wormer at least once in the year. All brands of wormers have been "The best ever" and "I will never use anything else" at some stage, then the marketing men throw up another name and the pound signs flash. Publicity bumf and adverts will only ever tell you what the suits want you to hear, the best information always comes from other people in the same position as yourself.
  7. Hi Davie, I wondered how long I would be on here before I found you! Things are good thanks, all the dogs are in great shape and we have just sold a litter out of Lucy to Willie. 5 smashing blue rough coats all of them across the water again. The nearest one to you was Castle Douglas. One from the last litter is on the Isle of Skye with a mountain guide, so he should get plenty of work! We have a new Bedlington stud dog lined up with a pal of mine, he brought it over from Wales and it's got a good long Newcombe history with it. I intend bringing it in to my lines next year all bein
  8. Hi and welcome. When I lived in England the door knocking route never yielded good results for me, even when I took my wife and daughter along to present the responsible citizen image! I found the best way to charm farmers was to get to know the workers first and then after socialising with them in the local pub for a bit sound them out for the likely hood of their boss allowing you to do them the favour of a bit of vermin control. The employees generally have a better chance of getting you in than you as a total stranger going and making the approach. Don't forget that most farmers are v

  10. Welcome to the forum. I have .22 77K that I bought new around 30 years ago, I have re-sealed and sprung it 3 times and I still use it regularly for ratting and feral pigeons in barns plus the odd obliging bunny that sits long enough within range for a fossil like me to see!

  13. Hello everyone, I have heard a lot of good reports about this forum and so I thought I would sign in and join the craic! I live in County Derry on a small holding which has a mixture of peat bogs, woodland and meadows, the countryside around here is mostly grass with a wee bit of arable. The fields are generally small ranging from 1 acre paddocks up to four or five acres, the big fields of ten acres plus are a bit scarce in my locality but there are plenty when you travel towards the North or east. I keep and breed some good Bedlington x Whippets which are the ideal dogs for all my ne
