You have a "good reason" for a centrefire so apply for one, it's as simple as that. I don't hold with the myth that you wont be granted a centrefire on first application, it is a rumour and nothing more. A centrefire and a .22LR would be ideal by the sounds of things. Night master is a great little light doesn't give of any spill I just get on well with light force Amber well worth a try Have you got the zero on that new rifle yet

Light force 170 with a dimmer Amber filter works well I don't know weather it doesn't bother the foxes because it looks the same as street lights But it works well for us The dimmer is great because you can keep the brightness right down until you need it Doesn't scare the foxes but you can still pick the eye shine up when you get it where you want it Turn up the light make sure it's what your after then bingo

Having the scope as close to the barrel is nothing to do with looks If the scope is high you have to bring the elevation down a lot just to get it level So using up most of the adjustment on your scope before you start It's not to much of a problem on a rim fire or air rifle but a centre fire is a different ball game Because of the distances you want it to perform at
