  2. set yourself a budget and step into a shop like jessops or somewhere research the net... etc.. i've bought the canon 1000d as a starting into the DLSR bracket...... kay also has the same as does sporting shooter, j darcy has the 50d i think, And muttle has a canon also I THINK, Some of the kit and lens will make you wince at the price believe me........ not sure what thumbstick uses but his images are stunning too, As are romany's It's all down to you, and budget of course....lol i'd recommend the canon 1000d as a first dlsr, its not bad too get the hang off.... qua
  3. looks like they saw you... good effort. Snap.
  4. He was a rather sleepy little fella kay.... and once i decided to get a little closer he let me know and scared the crap outta me while i was trying to focus on him....lol flew straight into the lens.... i love the macro work and i'm gonna try a 50mm f1.8 when i get it... and do my magic at creating a macro lens.. moneys flowing out the door at the minute so funds are rather limited unless i get rid of a boat or 2... hehe thanks kay.
  5. i tried to focus on a few flowers in the monochrome pic, the landscapes are all straight, but may look like they are leaning or at least i think so the boat pic has the sand flowing downward at quite an angle believe it or not.... moody sky recommend me a filter... and will it work in monochrome..? i focused on the tallest flower in the colour pic, and i think it worked out ok...... lol thanks for the comments ladies... i love moody images and want to convey them but i don't have the slightest clue what filters are good for it.... i'm trying the let the camera do the work a
  6. thought i'd get a lovely pic of a gull sitting at the enterance of the little harbour and i walked out the wall slowly, but the bugger flew off.... oh well fresh airs good for the soul... or so they say. Snap.

  10. yep i'm not too bad mate.... hard to beat a bit of KOL. Snap.
  11. john, can i ask do you shoot alot at extended range, targets etc...? i've taken fallow at 282 yards and in and around, and yes with the .243 i practice as often as i can at long range... the last outting i placed 5 shots into 2 1/2 inches at 530 yards... yes thats 1/2 MOA. this group opened up alot with wind the next group but was still within a heart lung shot limit... although i wouldn't shoot a deer at that distance, but i do consider 300 or around within my limits..... and i stress MY limits... We all like to stalk to our quarry, but sometimes its impossible due to her
  12. Guys please don't let this thread turn into a bitch fest. name calling thread, now in saying a neck shot deer, where do you prefer on the neck...? as its a fairly long object, As said the head moves formost, so i tend to go low on the neck with a good target, i do take fairly high neck shots at close range... And as stated qualifactions on paper mean nothing, i've seen hardened stalkers, with out paperwork that are truely awesome shots and there skill astounds me when knifework comes into play... then you see a qualified stalker out and place 4 or 5 .270 or 30-06 rounds into
  13. When i got the tikka customisied, i added to barrel length its now 24.5 inches, and then with the A-tec on barrel length goes to 30.5" i can understand balance issues if your feeling its really front heavy, but i only use the mod mainly for vermin, and target work. Snap.
  14. target shooter, gun mart, combat and militara is a nice mag too. Hope he gets well soon. Snap.
  15. i see most shooters from the states prefer to go through the shoulder low and into the heart, i don't agree with needless suffering, and as said by someone in an earlier post, if the shooter hasn't the confidence to place the shot into the neck then best to leave it another day. this is just my humble opinion. Snap.
  16. yeah shot free hand i guess their not toooo bad.... i've just learned another technique to better the images with this lens, So we'll see what happens... my next purchase will be a 50mm F1.8 prime... As i can seriously see me getting good shots with it... Time is my only issue as i have Too many hobbies.....
  17. Well after heading out to get set up for a days fencing, i spoted this little fella, and rushed in for the camera... the technique i use is meant to be shot of a tripod for macro, but i shot there 2 images hand held.. i think they turned out not so bad... Snap.
  18. the first fly is excellent kay very nice...
  19. love the first and 3rd last shots kay.... seems you've got the hang of your focusing issues... hope your well..
  20. lovely shot there... really like the dog looking up at the master Snap.
  21. greedy little thing eh..... lol very nice shot.
  22. i don't headshoot deer for that simple reason... i'd be devastated if i took a jaw off, i do however choose neck shots as i've put the time into it... i hadn't got the confidence in my shooting ability to neck shoot, until i consistantly placed rounds at targets before progressing to the animal itself.. i do however try my best to get a prone shot where possible, of a bi-pod, next choice is a fence post, or shooting sticks if i remember them.... Its only your own fault if things go pear shaped... as YOU are the one behind the trigger, and ultimately making the decision...
