  1. Alright mate, here's my 2 cents worth, If your just goin out now and again plinking to about 70 yards the .22 is your job, if your looking for a gun to take plenty of bunny's and a bit of target shooting then the .17hmr is the way to go. The round's are more expensive but are more accurate and capable of bunny's to 180 to 200 yards with the right scope. i've shot at these distances no problem but it's a hell of a lot of click's up on a scope. As for the noise theres not much differance in it. but put a sak mod on it if you like. then you have a nice little bit of kit. The choice is yours
  2. Excellent.... what about his middle leg were did it go or point.
  3. I can't help with the other problems, but the fern's i can. if you know any farmer's or people in the forestry commission this is the stuff to use, asulux, but it's now called asulam. can't remember if thats spelt right. but anyway it costs about euro here. by the way if the red diesel works it would be cheaper. When the fern comes to seed it becomes carsonagenic. So handle with care and wear a mask and gloves......... you will only kill the fern with this chemical. and the timing is critical, As the tip of the leave goes brown the fern is killing of the leaves to save the roots so it
  4. Sorry guy's i've been trying to get the photo's sorted but this is the only one i could salvage.
  5. Can't get the images uploaded for some reason......sorry What the hell is a dynamic image anybody
  6. So my holiday's nearly up decided to call the lads, it was about 10 o clock. It was confirmed there and then we would be heading out, I arrived at the lads house passing some small scattered sowers on the way, and praying that it would stay dry We decided to go to the lads field near the shore front......Lamping the field nothing in sight...Until On approaching the lower end of the field and lamping the shore 3 foxes. Yes I'll say that again, 3 foxes nosing about the seaweed. I couldn't believe it. Two were fairly close to one another at a range of 327 yards... and the other was at 10 o
  7. EXCELLENT bag john Hope the new rifle is luky for ye!!!!!!
  8. Digger, i'd go for the 243 then mate. recommend the sako 85, tikka m595,or remmy model 700, the m595 is better built than the newer t3. i've shot big red's no problem with it, and foxe's to 420 yards, also suggest a good scope when you go for a good rifle. t8 excellent. but there's a newmod called the A-tec meant tobe the mutt's nuts. best of luck let me know what you get.
  9. Just a pic. of last nights activity, decided to take a run down to the lad's again, never seen so many foxe's out before counted 14 on the patch we shoot, but most to dangerous a shot with cattle and sheep all out in the field's. but they'll be there for again. one on the left shot at 337 yard's, and the one on the right at 181 yards. excellent night..... just kinda annoyed i couldn't get a few more seeing they were out in force. This patch just keeps producing.......................
  10. Hi Digger, firstly the .17hmr is not recommended for foxes but shot placement will kill at that range but it's touch and go, secondly i would personally stay away from the nightforce as they are overpriced, and not optically great in low light, schidmt and bender or leupold would be my first choice. If it's only for foxes the 223 is great and shots to 400 yards with a good set up are pos. but IMHO a .243 is the dog's bollock's. i've been shotin one for years, great allrounder. you couldn't go wrong with both cal's. it's just a matter of what you personally want togetout of your gun. one to
  11. CLOWN!!!!!!!!! who likes to rent guns.!!!!!!

    new born

Well done arthur. does it come already cut for a silencer best of luck and good health to all.
  13. For versatility, .243, IMHO, or if it's a dedicated deer rifle the 6.5x55, i used the 95 gr nosler's on our three species of deer, here in ireland, and only had one that run, and had to be tracked, and that was simply down to poor bullet selection. needless to say it didn't happen again. 95gr nosler, or 100 gr hornady's both excellent as long as you know the limit's anything past 225 yards or so, i stalk in to at least this distance. then for foxes 58 gr v-max or 70 gr blitzking's doing the business. good luck. one to think on......
  14. Heads he's mine tail's he's yours. look's like he's got a hell of a headache!!!!!!!! Good shooting.
  15. OOPS I'll just go and change an pants Lovely gun mate...... dont know where my post went so, this one will do, Any chance of a few groupings when you get it run in? I want one.....................
  16. Thanks for the input dogrun, why didn't i check, simple i've been shooting a rifle for about 13 years now, i heard a thud of the bullet strike that could only indicate a soil hit or full impact, listen to your shot you'll hear it. We would have had a river to cross, plus search the long grass, plus driving around to the site might have lost the area in particular. i'm more carefull than most people i know when shooting. plus with the .243 i never aim for a head shot at those distances. heart and lung. if it's hit within 2" of the aim point it's dead. simple as. never did a fox run yet, that
  17. Cheers weejohn, The rifle is a tikka m595 s/s, the scope i use is a leupold long range tactical 6.5x20x50 with M1 turrets mil.dot the bullet doing the task for now is the 70 grain sierra blitzking. excellent bullet. The longest kill to date is 420yrds witnessed by the two guys i shoot for. and yes i use the u caller, cheers for the input. good hunting
  18. AT 4pm i got the call, "when you coming down to us again" Was the first words i heard, After a little chat i decided to take a trip down to my mates farm which i cleared a few foxes from about march time this year. 16 to be exact, Thinking it would be a while since he seen any more..... So as dusk fell i got my kit sorted and headed down the road to his farm. Greeted by a brew and some nibbles we headed out. Driver, lamper, and myself. Saying to the boys if one's close tonight i'll give ye a crack at it... The moon was bright in the sky but we thought what the hell... not 30 seconds from t
  19. bull, once you pull the trigger on the hmr i can't stop, i hope all crows go to heaven
  20. Ditch, it's been a while mate. Glad to hear your sorted once and for all. on paper looks good, but if you get a money bag, the kind the bank use. fill it with beans or lentils or something like that or sand, it makes an excellent rest for the fore-end. if its fill with money all the better!!!!!!! Waiting to see the pick's of some kills now....... practise. practise practise, and ye'll come in trumps for now...... p.s. cant wait for chapter two....
  21. FRANK, i'd still push the 6.5x55 mate, if you are getting nowhere with the garda then just give des croften a call from the nargc. if your a member, i'm thinking of geting one again their excellent, i gave mine up an i'm sorry i did now....................
  22. Ditch, does that brain of yours ever stop thinking of how to get the perfect shot? Heres my two cents, if your not far away from your shooting point, then purchase a double set of scaffolding frames two squares high put the planks on it cover with camo net and hey presto, shooting platfrom with a nice little area for seat tarp to keep the rain off, permant fixture, hurricane's won't take it down, i've used this and it's excellent, can be bought fairly cheap if you shop around. oh also i wouldn't worry about spending extra on your e z pull trigger, if ordered from the states you would still
  23. before the 2000 models were giving bother with the electric back window on the freelanders, but the newer models seem to be better built 2003 up seem good, if your looking for one give it a good lookng over for bushings etc hope this helps.
