  1. Set length of this one is 18 foot. New to longnetting so wasn't sure what it was called exactly, sure I bought it as a gate net though.
  2. Thanks for the replies guys! Ive always got the 100 yarder mostly on long fiberglass poles for the jobs that need it. Was just to make a handy wee backpack gate net. But ive left the poles at 70cm for now. Whats the best way to fold/roll a gate net up? Without a quickset basket. I could maybe fashion a small bag for it if thats the main method. (Its 18 foot long, on three poles)
  3. I've got two 18 foot long gate/long nets. Fancied a couple small nets for mooching when I don't have the 100 yard with me. Currently cut a couple of wooden poles to 70cm (they are a bit thick but will do for now) But it would be great if I could cut them shorter so I could fit them into my bag. What do you guys think is the shortest I could cut them?
  4. Correct me if I'm wrong Minkenry. But he gets his from farms, they are born around humans. Also perhaps they even breed from the mink that are easier to manage like that Russian fox farm.
  5. I turn it down and go with the lights for general keeping tabs on them. Only use the sound once im sure digging will be next.
  6. How old are the older jills? Based on that i do fancy breeding my jill once shes a bit older, don't fancy managing big litters. What age is too late do you think? Menopause? More chance of complications?
  7. Thats what will happen to all ferrets if they ban purse nets.
  8. Both my jills will give up on a rabbit before my hob will. I wouldn't say thats just because hes bigger. Hes persistent with most of things he likes to destroy around the house too
  9. Mine don't bat an eyelid either. Just sleep through it.
  10. I playfight with mine too, the kit over steps the mark at times but that's to be expected. Because I let mine out in the house everyday they get plenty of contact from me. As they run about I just pick them up briefly here and there, does the job. Socks/toes are a different ball game though....
  11. They will naturally get fatter for winter.
  12. Clove knot it was, thanks. Also ran some insulation tape around the cord beside the knot for good measure. So its all tidied up now, happy with it, hope the weather clears up for tomorrow. Seen pegs mentioned in another thread, I don't have any, im assuming its to keep the two end poles tight? Would a purse net do if I hook the bottom ring over the poles? What kind of height do you set the net for rabbits? Its a quickset. I got the grommets from a friend, just lucky they fit. Simillar looking ones here but not sure what size mine are - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570
  13. Was looking for a bit of advice on how i should tie my top line to the fiberglass poles/grommets. New to longnetting. Do you tie it to the grommet or above them around the pole.... or both? What kind of knot should i use? I acquired some additional grommets that fit the pole nicely but also have a gap around the outside that i could tie into, if that would be worthwhile? Some of my poles are birch (Quite short) which ill be using towards the end of my 100 yard net. At the moment i have elastic bands to act as grommets, but is there a better way? I also have some strong bamboo canes th
  14. Hobs do make better pets, they are usually a bit more laid back too.
  15. 1 hob, 2 jills Most people have more jills... What happens to al the hobs?
  16. No pegs, haha. Forgot about the long netting section actually Should have had this whole post in there
  17. Got a second hand 100 yard quick set long net. Had it laid out today to tidy up. Reasonably good condition.... realised i don't really have a clue Long nets are new to me. Missing some grommets. Half the poles are silver birch with no gromets and i felt they might not be long enough . I took a guess and used some elastic bands as a replacement for the grommets for now. How do you tie the draw cord (guess its only a draw cord on purse nets actually ) to the gromets? Or don't you? How do measure the bagging? We were sliding it up and down to try and get it looking even, but I was never satisfi
  18. Purse nets on the runs? Bought 2x 18 foot gate nets last night so will try find spots for them in the hedge. Should have all I need. Could also put a wooden board in to divert the rabbits out into the long nets in the field. Seen a video of Simon whitehead doing something like that.
  19. The jill kit hisses playfully, when shes being cheeky. My older jill is a hissy cow... and means it
  20. It is quite a small box so maybe the build up of the two jill heat makes it overly toasty. There is five holes along the front. Heres a pic of my hob in it, obviously the jills are smaller and fit in nice and snug
  21. What are the early signs of myxomatosis? Had two rabbits today, just walk out the holes very wobbly and very slow. But no crusty eyes or other signs as far as my knowledge goes.
