I've written about this before. Apologies if I"m senior record repeating. There was a kid in my class who was the son of a German POW.John Smidt. Bear in mind large swathes of Salford was flattened by the luftwaffe. So Salfordians were a bit sore about that. Poor John used to get bullied,kicked and punched every day of his life. It's always been not just on my conscience , but my classmates too. He refused to ever attend any reunions or talk to any of us and the poor bugger died in his early fifties. Sorry John.

When I was a kid I used to devour comics. A lot of the stories were about jerries and how cunning they could be. If you were undercover in France or Germany, one of their dastardly tricks was to trick you into speaking English by saying 'thank you" in English when they were checking your papers so naturally you would saying 'thank you" in return. I f****n hate visitors, especially those that stay the night or even worse a few days. I dont mind a ten minute chat and catch up, preferably on neutral territory , but people staying in my house is hell. My Mrs likes cooking for and talking to visitors. She would love a dozen people to stay over. I find it difficult to keep my face from showing irritation. Thank f**k I'm on holiday for the Christmas and New Year period, no visitors to have to endure. If you're ever passing my place,keep moving.

Fact check. My Mrs told some Pakistani gentleman who objected to a copy of The Koran being on display in a charity shop she works in, to either "f**k off" or buy the copy. I think we've all moved on about gays and transgenders. Nobody cares how others live their lives. But a good proportion of G and Ts crave attention and want to make exhibitions of themselves. I have more than a suspicion that the government tips The Daily Mail to get photographers onto the beaches to photograph the boat people so as to hide the fact that illegal immigration via the backs of lorries, aircraft and visas is much, much greater. Not to mention the astronomical legal immigration figures even after brexit. It's an image which fires people up so that they see invaders, but disguises the fact that they are a drop in the ocean.
