  1. one thing to remember all the squirrel works on sight not smell so what ever you do be it snare them or trap them the make the bait visible . i hang a mesh bird feeder full of maize on the center of the pole so they can see it .also i i use the maize behind the fenn and outside the set to attract there ?
  2. i have tried all sorts in them but the best bait is fresh rabbit or pigeon guts .
  3. Now now you know it will come back on you saying such things
  4. Yes that is it on the bottom photo .i would have put a photo up myself but have no idea how too
  5. What sort of lock do you use on the 1 mm wire. ? Bike link micky bike chain from wilkinson £3-£4 you get 150 locks out of one chain .just split the chain with a good link splitter then bend the links with two pairs of pliers so the run down the wire well .much cheaper than the micro locks etc I also use the link on the fox wires .Holds them no trouble at all .

  8. How uch do they work out as mate, where ye get em from? I make all my wires myself .i get the wire from Handy straps for the ferrules i use 2mm nuts and 3mm .As for the lock i use a bike chain link .. as per cost per wire i couldn't tell you never gave it a thought lol but i tell you i find them much better than the brass because you can load them to be very quick as with fox snares . I get great enjoyment of catching with stuff i make myself rather than buying off others. If it all goes wrong then you have no one to blame but yourself
  9. Make some up out of 1.5mm 7x7 wire .rabbit will not snap those also if you have a fox in them then he will be sitting waiting for you also .Gave up on the brass wires myself and now only use 1.5mm or 1mm wire . Thankfully the brass wire is a thing of the past for me lol . All i need now is some rabbits to populate wales
  10. Try handy straps .They have just about everything i need for such things .
  11. personally i would set up a pole between the house and them trees with a wire bird feeder filled with maize in the middle of the pole .Then i would get some snares on the pole and watch them hang one by one
  12. Ha Ha micky that would not bother me one bit
  13. Just as mr tea pot said but i would have added a fox wire or two along the run also lol
  14. I use the Wolf garden trowel never lets me down and lifetime guarantee bit expensive at around £10 but you get what you pay for .
  15. The snare pole for squirrels is very effective .Glenn put me on the the right track with it . .The wire you use is is the most important part of the set up and the height at which you set the wires .I started to use brass wire to start with but found that i had some chew outs with this .Then i had some stainless wire sent to me this did the trick As for it being used as a restraint then i cannot find any info that says this about snaring squirrels it simply would not work in such a way you would loose more than you would catch .Mind you in Scotland this may well be the case .
  16. I tend to put two in per set to catch them .I am leaning to the talplex more now as i can do without the fillers I dont know what is with the barrel traps they just love to fill mine even thoe i think im doing every thing fine .
  17. Mr Tea Pot havent you got a photo of a wire set on a open run for the feller .No good me explaining to the guy as i cant catch them either !it will be the blind leading the blind
  18. Darrren if you want i will come and have a look im sure there will be places to set some wires in your sisters ground . i assume he is after chickens ? a good idea is to set wires of the corner of the pen if this is the case .anyhow the offer is there if you want me to have a look .
  19. Yes im also in Pontypool Darrren
  20. I'll reset either side of the catch circle but it'll have to be on a weekend as I'm away to work before daylight Setting both sides works very well .Well done.
  21. Darrren i started ferreting with one of the old school he only just past away .i ferreted with him from a young age .He told me befor mixi was introduced in the UK him and his mates used to get 40 - 50 on a sunday out at usk and also at caerleon .He said that after the mixi hit it was never the same again . The thing is if there is only a small population and every man and his dog is after them they will never come back in such numbers as seen pre mixi .Personaly myself i have 4 ferrets here and mangae to get out a few times during the winter and get a few but i have to travel outside Gwen
  22. snares will be the way to go .the fox aint going to like the cage unless its realy hard /cold .I would keep the dogs in at night and any cats in the wires well they are just cats you could just let them go in the morning
