  1. Emeera - tell them about your coursing (so you say) saluki and see what they say. Also if you managed to catch a WILD polecat from under a shed you are some girl.
  2. I used to do a lot of rat ferreting on an old piece of ground where the local turkey farm used to dump carcasses. It was great fun bolting them for the dog. Most of the ferrets did however only last a season or sometimes less before they refused to enter to them, I also had a couple of ferrets that had abscesses caused by rat bites. I did have one polecat jill that I used for several seasons and would always enter she seemed to have a hatred for them.
  3. OK, just saying for a rescue then neutering is a much cheaper option. Another reason I said that is as you know a hobs balls this time of year are retracted so a vasectomy is usually carried out when the hob is in breeding condition. I've a vasectomised hob and he's with my 3 jills all year round so if your sure he has been done then this is by far your best option.
  4. I'd be surprised if they are vasectomising him. They will probably neuter him (castration) there is a big difference.
  5. Agreed - did your daughter who also went with him have to contribute? Also if I was the kid I would be wondering why you have to ask a public forum for an answer. Your dogs your responsibility. Your kids your responsibility.
  6. I think the PDF thing is a good idea. Maybe get Skycat to write a few articles
  7. Steph if you can't find a home let me know I've a friend looking for one. ATB
  8. No salt will work if you put it in all the cracks of your slabs, also a flame gun works well and is quite satisfying
  9. Agree with round up but it really is a waste of time spraying this time of year as the plants need to be acively growing as soon as you see them making growth blast them
  10. Cheers Trapperman thats what this site should be about I'll pm you later. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks, looking for half a dozen light sussex and half a dozen ROR. I was surprised the breeds you can get on ebay, just type in 'hatching eggs' eg http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12-TOP-QUALITY-L-F-LIGHT-SUSSEX-FERTILIZE-HATCHING-EGGS_W0QQitemZ180453216807QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Poultry?hash=item2a03d99227 I suppose it all depends on the post!!!! Regards.
  12. no the fertility should'nt be down because of the weather it should remain the same as long as your birds have enough room to move about and keep active but with weather like this heat lamps will be required longer once the eggs have hatched to keep the chicks warm ,give it go you will enjoy the experience tj Cheers tjones. I'm starting from scratch, years ago I ordered 12 x day olds, they arrived via Amtrak and we reared them under a heatlamp until they were feathered up, kept chucks for 15 years but had to sell when we moved house. Have you any experience of eggs of ebay? Farmer
  13. Thanks guys. Have put the incubation on hold cos I figured any hatching eggs are going to be of low fertility with this cold weather. Plan to start them off at the end of next month.
  14. that is a definate no no I thought people would realise i was joking!!!!!! In an ideal world yes but this is THL
  15. Wellies for me, Le Chameau Vierzonord. Warm and comfortable
  16. As Hannah said get insurance. I learnt the hard way after a £1500 vet bill, and that was 10 years ago Since then I always insure. Words of warning though dogfights like this are rarely one offs. Especially if both are bitches, it WILL happen again.
  17. You have a male saluki and a greyhound bitch - how was it not predictable?????
  18. True my Grandad told me to split the tongue with a sixpence Never did it and it never talked: I fed mine bread and milk, totally wrong I now know, but as he got older we just fed him kitchen scraps, he was never caged and just slept in the roof of my dads shed and fed himself in the end, he had just got the jackdaws silver head when he disappeared, I think he like many teenagers had discovered the opposite sex and was led astray.
  19. Probably is against the law now, probably was then as well but people had more important things to worry about than a lad with a bird, RSPCA would no doubt sieze it now.
  20. Nice pic - mine was called Jack as well, what a coincidence
  21. You feel old, at least yours are in colour My Jackdaw, great pets, used to follow me to school and wait about until home time, had him two years then one day he was gone
