  1. If you keep the lamp on the rabbit then the dog shouldn't be dazzled by light, it will become dazzled if you shine it in his/her eyes. Just keep at it mate the more your out the quicker your dog will catch on. Atb
  2. You could try a red filter but sounds like the dog is just over shotting the rabbit due to inexperiance maybe? I know you said its in the 2nd season but it probably needs more practice. Try getting it out with a more experienced dog so it can watch a few times. Atb
  3. good luck with your pup mate, just messured mine and she's now 18 tts perfect size for the work she will have put to her. I'm sure you'll have plenty of fun! The only problem with my pups coat is that it holds water quite bad but she don't suffer from it atall. Atb
  4. I got one because I've always liked the look of a small rough haired lurcher, I considered a whippet but came across an advert for bedxwhip so jumped at it! Fantastic little dog, full of personality atb
  5. my misses uncle done it all, sheep fencing and the planted hedges in I cba to fork the bill just to take it all out and re do it lol
  6. Started ferreting from a young age with my old man, then started going out with my mate and his dad with there terriers digging and going out with lurchers finally after a few years I got my own terrier but was hopless lol, nd now years gone by and I have a lurcher and will be getting a nice little pup in 2 weeks so will get back into digging!
  7. Just had to go to the shops and driving along the lane not to far from my house and the car in front almost hit a fox that ran out in front so I wonder if that's the bugger! Shame the car missed really lol...owell hopefully ill get the little sh+t once my terrier I'm getting in 2 weeks comes of age. That would make me feel abit better after loosing my chickens haha. I hatched the little tykes myself so its proper peed me off!
  8. Anyone got a fox trap they like to lend me lol
  9. yes its definatly a rat hole mate, I've shot quite a few rats in the garden last year when I had more chickens and also my old lurcher used to kill a few and leave them by the back door for us lol. My misses said she saw a rat in the garden yesterday. But its just odd how 3 of my chickens are dead one of which is missing but there's feathers down the rat hold and at the other end of the garden on the decking there feathers and in the field behind my house there's feathers...confusing.com lol
  10. No I'm sure its a fox I'm looking over the hedge at the back in the field and there's a few feathers over there! Only got myself to blame! Dint lock them up properly last night ffs!
  11. Just been out in the garden again and there's a rat set between my fence and the alotments next door and in the hole there's some feathers which is not confusing me :s could it be a rat instead? I've never heard of a rat killing chickens but you never know!
  12. Just got home from work and 2 of my chickens are dead and the 3rd one is missing! My garden is backed onto fields and Surround is fields have heard a fox about sometimes in the night calling, but next door has a cat that sometimes ventures into the garden when its feeling brave. My hedge at the backhas got fencing in it also but at only 6 ft high could a fox easily jump over? I'm gonna have a little walk with the dog in a min and see if there's any sets local but what do you think? Fox or next doors cat?
  13. 2 lads that live about 10 mins from me got raided, arrested, dogs seized, guns seized, put away for 3 months and now out on tag not so long back for posting about dogging badgers and putting piks ect on facebook, they were then followed and caught in the act doing the said activities. One was 17 years old the other was 18 years old, there was a 3rd person involved a 23 year old man but wasn't charged with anything. Complete utter twats! Clearly it's good to broadcast it all nowadays the way some "young" lads go on about it, gives the rest of us a bad name!
  14. cheers mate, basicly I have a 3ft wide and 15ft long bit of space between my grass area and fence between me and next door, with railway sleepers running up and atm there is play bark but gonna dig it up put sculpings down, wacker plate it set 6 lengths of treated timber up right at about 5 ft high, evenly spaced out, with damp course wrapped around the bottom for extra protection to stop rotting, set the aco's in along side the sleepers coming verticly down the run and was hoping to bring the concrete up around 5inches up of the sculpings to make a nice solid base. I have a dog kennel already
  15. it will only be for no more than an hour or so as my misses dosnt work during the day so majority of the time they will be in the house with her or in and out of the kitchen/garden.
  16. I will be getting my new terrier pup very shortly and I'm gonna be building a small run with a kennel in so that she along with my beddi whip can go in if my misses has to pop out during the day, but I'm going to concrete the floor. Basicly this is a question to any builders out there, as I'm only a painter I'm not a 100 percent but would a normal chippings to dust with sand and cement mix be ok for a base or would I need a different, if better mix? I will also add, aicko (spelling) drains down one side. Any info would be grat cheers
  17. the new pup is partly my misses responsability as she wanted a terrier as well I did aswell, also a puppy isn't going to be left on its own as my misses is at home to take care of it and she don't want anything to do with the ferrets. the ferrets are just mine and I can't see my misses working them while I'm at work...she's usless lol! The ferrets are going to my brother now so its sorted that way when I have time I can still use them and there not just in the run doing nothing.
  18. Its now sorted my brother and my cuson are going to have the ferrets that way If I need/ want to use them in the future then theire there for when I need them. Cheers for the replys.
  19. That's what I was using them for and altho I really don't want to get rid of them, I just don't think its fair on the ferrets I worked 87 hours last week over 7 days and out of the rest of my time I've only been able to pick them up twice and have to get my misses to feed them every day. Also its going to be a while untill I get to slow down at work
  20. I posted in the ferret rehoming thread and once I find out how to i will advertise in the for sale section but, I have 2 gills that need a new home due to having to work 7 days and long hours they just aint getting the work atm plus getting a new pup soon so any spare time will be going into my dogs. One is a albino begining of this years kit, been worked a few times bolted a few rabbits and the other is a mitted coloured gill ready to start now. I'm based in the bristol area and are free to a good home where they will get the work they need! They both have been handled as much as my free tim
