  2. Looks an ideal dog and size to me! Good times! Gk
  3. Cheers for the replies. I will be using her as an earth dog and after the shooting season on some rats by my ponds etc. (we release a lot of duck) she has caught a young rat and is starting to use her nose a lot more. Gonna keep her away from earths untill she is a lot older. Will put some more pics up of her soon. Cheers Gk
  4. Hello all- My Lakeland bitch is 4 1/2 months old now and as this is my first terrier I'm abit miffed on how and when to start her off on work. She comes around with me on the shoot but as there are poults all over the place at the moment mooching with her isn't going to be easy. On walks she stays very close and she is just starting to use her nose more than her eyes for things. Naturally I know she is still very very young to do much with and I don't want to rush her hence putting up a post about it. I've seen plenty of rats about the place but at the moment they are half the siz
  5. Looks very much along the lines of a white Lakeland too me! Still.... A bloody cracking dog! A
  6. Cracking looking pup mate. My old terrier man used to have a dog just like that- was quite long in the leg and he used to class it more as a fell terrier I think- was a demon. Lovely heads on them also. Cheers A
  7. Mine are 10 weeks at the moment and are not fully coloured up yet and are no way near fully grown so I'd leave them untill they are a lot older than 12 weeks. Won't be shooting mine untill first week of October so they know the land well etc. cheers
  8. Another cracking looking dog mate! Full of good dogs this site! A
  9. All maize seed rotted out in our clay ground. Slugs have eaten kale off along with flea beetle although pellets and spray has been used. I've blocks of cover thats meant to be maize which is just soil and ELS cover that's just redshank! Joyous!
  10. If the trees aren't that special- ie: willow- chop them to the floor. They will regrow anyway and maintain it as a coppice. Looks like it would hold a handful of ducks but they will find it tight to land. Had a pond similar to that on my last shoot but without the island- it was surrounded by trees so I chopped one side down and used to get 30 ducks feeding on it. Cheers gk
  11. Tried it last year- lots of work and lots of trial and error on food quantities. You want too keep them fairly hungry. I managed too feed the ducks into the drives that I wanted them but they were so skitty that the slightest thing would make them fly home. Managed to get 300 ducks feeding about 1000 yards from their pond going through 3 fields and over a track too feed but had the same problem with them not staying long enough too drive them. They would stuff themselves on 2-3 minutes then fly back- if one even flew whilst feeding they would all go. This year I shall feed them off the pond bu
  12. Seen two wild broods- that's it. Haven't seen them for some time now though. I'm rearing and my birds are due out next week. Floods everywhere and rain rain and more rain. Non of my covers have grown on the clay we have here either. Gonna be a very very very tough year for everyone! Gk
  13. My black and tan lakie pup has a few white wirey guard hairs on her also- I put it down to the bedlington in the blood of the Lakeland though not Russell. My old terrier man had a black fell and that had a white/grey rough coat all over it derived from bedlington in the mix. Cheers GK
  14. Nice little pups, very similar to my new pup! Cheers GK
  15. Nice- how old is he? Is he gonna be much of a size? Cheers GK
  16. Cracking dogs those! Hope mine turns out like them! It's interesting how the black and tan has lost the black from the face- as the mother and father of mine had a solid red face so maybe mine will lose it too. Suppose it shows how much welsh terrier is in the make up. Do you work yours on fox? Thanks for photos. Gk
  17. Nice pup buster- what age were they when that photo was taken? Have ya a picture of it now? Cheers Gk
  18. Just some more photos of my lakeland bitch! Shes 11 weeks old now I think- shes a little handfull. Cheers GK
  19. Nice little pup- is it gonna be a rough coat? A
