  1. Yeah- not trying to compare my shoot to anyone else's or returns and know the deal with partridges. Just curious to how many birds people release on certain acreage as am thinking on increasing numbers. Cheers
  2. Alright keepers out there, How many red legs do you put down, on what acreage/farm type and what are your rough returns (understand some will be low but I'm not gonna judge!) Cheers Gk
  3. Definately cut the "cocks" (not roosters- were not in America) numbers down. They will basically kill the hens from mating. Buy some saddles for them also. 1 cock to 5 hens will do, keep a few cocks spare and separate in a different pen as spares. Cheers A
  4. Hello all Ive been bringing on my supposed black and tan lakeland bitch on rats recently as she is about 11 months old now. She is really going to be used on foxes and has seen a couple of dead ones and tends to bay at them which looks promising! Every night after work ive been taking her out around the yard to hunt for some rats. At first she knew how to chase the rats but didnt know what to do when she got one, its been a good few weeks and alot of constant determination on my part to get her going that now she has begun to realise what to do with them. She has seen about 20 rats but

  12. Alright people. My usual terrierman has got rid of his Patterdale now and therefore my shoot 650 acres doesn't have a terrierman on it. So I'm offering digging for any experienced guy that wants abit more land to go on. They need to be reliable. Been seeing lots about during the mornings etc. My terrier isn't yet old enough to start working. Warwickshire/glos border Pm me for more detail Cheers

  14. Ah right- Coat wise- there are a few mats in her coat- some fairly deep. Don't want her to get problems or anything if I leave them but don't want to ruin the texture of her coat by cutting. I'd never cut her short all over as I too like the thick nature of it. Cheers Gk
  15. Hello all I took my 8 month old terrier ratting for the first time a couple of days ago with my friends jack russel. We killed 18 rats but my terrier didnt kill any. It chased a couple but didnt know what to do with them when she landed on them, has anyone else had this before? She is only young still but would like to know if there is anything i can do to help her work out what to do with them. Ive also got a problem with what to do with her coat, whether to cut it or not. She is meant to be a lakeland and her undercoat is very very thick like a bedlingtons, and as you can see from th
  16. Nice one mate! You should be able to constantly hit the -120 mark with the numbers of birds you put down so I wouldn't worry too much. Out of interest how many shots to birds ratio? Cheers A
  17. Just so people know I will replie to eveyone who has shown interest later on tonight when I sit down on the computer. Many thanks Gk
  18. Sorry people near Moreton in marsh! Pm me if interested. Cheers Gk
  19. No pleasure in shooting low birds- ! Im a keeper and i dont mind if people only shoot sporting birds aslong as they know that the bag at the end of the day is going to be less than it could have been. As long as all the guns are happy there shouldnt have been any problems. Cheers GK
  20. As title says Please pm me if you are interested in helping me out and I can tell you dates/pay etc. Cheers Gk
  21. Hello all I took a different approach on my ducks this year and fed them 2-3 days worth of food about 30-50 yards away from the ponds to try keep them abit more wild. They certainly now at 16 weeks old don't like me one bit and flush whenever I wave a bag at them- although to get this reaction I've had to chase them off with the help of a friend over the past week or so. My query is though has anyone had any problems with their reared mallard leaving the pond for good due to disturbance from people? The birds that flush from one pond fly off and fly to another of my mallard ponds- ins
  22. Hello all Ive been releasing redlegs for a good few years now but would like to know how you lot release them to see if I can change my methods to get better returns. I currently release groups of 50-75 in a double pen to help to covey them up and to give them one side of the pen as protection after release due to pop holes. Pens are usually around 500 yards apart surrounding the main cover crop and around surrounding hedges. Usually try to drive them across the wind and place the guns behind a tall hedge to hide them from the birds but I'm sure you know with partridges that a well laid ou
