How old is the oldest you’d breed a bitch for the first time , Iv a bitch here now she’s 7 next months , she’s currently in season but I want to wait till her next season ideally so be April time , just so I don’t lose her for the start of this season she’s been a good day time bitch , big , strong , robust , and knows how to kill , don’t think she’s really missed any time through injury even with the harsh ground she runs on , been keeping a eye out for a stud dog aswell

100% I find having older dogs totally ignoring them is key to a young dog learning what it’s about , I spend a lot of summer if got a young dog on walking close as I can get to the sheep in cover so there moving around I want a dog to check of course but not react if it’s a sheep , it’s unavoidable her sheep everywhere even worse when there’s one or two stinking ones left behind

I always say it’s not being Stock broken they’ve got to be comfortable with them , I don’t want my dogs stopping hunting because there sheep around or anything else Iv seen mine run flat out at sheep and people thinking they’re chasing them and they’ve over took them And carried on hunting got to make them park of the scenery

What do people do when they go away with there dogs? We go away a fair bit but we are in process of getting a camper so we can do family holidays with the dogs but when ever we go anywhere weather it’s a week or a night my misses sister comes down and sorts them she sleeps in the house every night we are going , she knows the route just doesn’t walk them because not even my misses is allowed to walk mine

Just from only ever having one gun dog and that’s a pure gwp , id not be with out her now , she will find anything anywhere he nose is like a on dog pack of hounds , she speaks when she finds which is handy , she’s not a bushing dog as such because i hunt hills and moors she more of a finder for me but will keep up with the lurchers while hunting shes even turned a few foxes for me shes not slow and she’s 8 , my lurcher is a gwp x aswell I love the breed there just work focused and hard to go with it both don’t back down from anything

I do had my old bitch since I was 19 Now I’m 31 and got a 7 and 8 year old dogs both been here since pups , I know a lot good young dog men most the older guys talk nonsense half the time living in the past

People expect to much from a young age and can’t expect every dog is different they my look full mature but there mind might not be , had a bullx get to 20 months and wouldn’t touch teeth was starting to get really worried then one day it clicked and she never looked back and become a very useful tool , feel a lot people like to brag about dogs doing things at a young age like this a accomplishment but usually it’s gone by 18 months because it’s f****d

I got a pointer and lurcher team the lurcher is also a pointer x , I only work my dogs day time on big open hill i do try to stick to gullies and big patches of rush suits the pointer more , she has best nose Iv ever seen if it’s there she’ll find it , the lurcher is better at the longer hunts once it’s up and gone , I treat the pointer like lurcher though just let her go don’t call her or even try to guide her work just let her do her edited to add I’m looking to add to the team next summer so if anyone’s breeding any pointer x or have a good stud dog get in touch

I always take abit extra care with cuts inside the mouth , when I was doing terrier work for a hunt I use to stay at my mate who was the terriermans house I walked in and a smell smacked me in the face I knew what was straight away one his bitches had a cut inside her mouth and food had got in a caused a infection , she went down his fast , so from then on I always checked the inside of mouths after a dig especially the roof of the mouth
