  1. Same happened to me and I relished proving all the doubters wrong. Doesn't always work that way though. I don't know what it was with me the breeding didn't really bother me because I've seen well bred dogs not worth a bat. I just knew the dog had more to offer and hadn't clicked properly. Atb
  2. but having said that though, what about the times that it does go in and pop it straight out of the big/un diggable spot?, or finds and has its 10 minutes, comes out and you put a harder type in and you do dig it in the shallow spot of the earth that your 10 minute wonder found in? personally i keep one, and its worth it wait in gold to me, well nearlly lol, but any way i thought you lot that only keep "real dogs" liked a good 12 hour dig to test the dogs metal?? Fair enough statement but bear in mind not every terrierman has room in there kennels for all types of terriers, so like myse
  3. Judging wise a load off bollocks if you ask me and I've been to them all. I used to go to them and bring a few terriers for the Craic, never got a kind look. Not that I care because I'd rather go home with my workers, than have a van full off fanny lickers and a wall full of rosettes that you could buy for half the price you paid for them. I Just go to maybe 2/3 a year now, no dogs which suits me fine. A days banter if anything while the huntings over. Atb
  4. Had a few home made ones back in the mid 90's, we had powerful Craic going round to the lads houses mid week and sitting with a cuppa letting them see the digs they missed out on. Watched them a few times then we erased them. Some difference now days !
  5. some of the 10 min dogs i have found stay a fair bir from there quarry and move with the quarry aslo keeping a distance putting on no presure having the quarry faceing them in tubes so you get a reading thinking its handy enough only for you to enter a decent that goes in does the job right and pushs the quarry to the right place only for you to fing its a lot deeper than you thought seen it hapen I agree Stevie g
  6. Wouldn't suit me either, though suit some folk and do earn their keep. On the other end, what's to say that if this "marker terrier" was used in a big place and was located at a handy depth and walked out after 10 mins without a bolt. if thats when you drop a decent worker that will stay until dug, how can you be sure the quarry is just sitting in the same spot ?? I've seen it happen and it doesn't always end just as simple as such. Atb
  7. Seen a few off them and there's terriers running about everywhere and every dig is more like a trench than just opening up a hole !!!

  14. Well that was my 1st thought tophat because we're I live is a very hot area for paramilitaries of u get me !! But he must have been a good 1 to get away because he'd some ground to make by the time I'd got to the top o the hill the field was a right size only a low hedge between it and the next big field and I could see both sides ???
  15. Went for a walk with the mutts earlier on new ground close to my home. Found a few holes which is a plus but something has me thinking. Yous are gonna have a good laugh at this though it's true bill !!!! Walking along a small bank with a large hill to my right I noticed a fella with a black bomber jacket walking along the brow of the hill. I could only see him waist up because of the hill so I put the dogs on there leads and walked up the hill towards him to get a yarn. Got to the top off the hill which took me less than 2 mins an looked down the other end !!!!! Nothing in sight, nobody there

  20. Well mate to be completely honest that's one of my pet hates. We had a few dogs bought in when we were young and starting off that did the same thing, I suppose that's why they were for sale. Just young and naive getting into the game but nothing much came from them. That dog I was telling you about was the first I'd seen doing it in years and I hope it's the last. I havnt seen your dog but he sounds like he wants to go in and kill whatever he meets but when he's got a mouthful, backs off and hasn't the brains to either continue working the quarry or walk away, instead he just stays put which
  21. I had a dog a few seasons ago dug to him a few times, impressive. Then all of a sudden going in giving it all for 5/10 then just sounding. Not a single movement on the box after all the noise stopped. Dug down dog sitting back off the dig then coming forward and nothing there but dog marked. After the second time of doing this I lifted the dog in question and dropped another dog into the dig. After a few minutes the dog had dug on a few feet into his quarry. I gave the other dog one more chance after a few weeks of rest, 6 ft of solid digging that went into the night with lamps etc i knew it w
