  1. couple if recent ones in the fresh weather
  2. Some interesting stuff on this thread enjoyed reading it and I think the retrive is certainly an area many struggle with. Just to add i know my old man has had a problem with one specific dog especially when they are around other dogs, a method my dad uses and it's seems to have worked with this particular dog, has been to get as good a retrieve as possible with a rabbit for example, the rabbit is then gutted there and then (takes a few seconds) and the heart etc is given to the dog. I guess it is an immediate and linked reward for the dog and seems to have worked. Interestingly the same dog r
  3. Quiet a few things are toxic to dogs if you look into it, chocolate and raisins being the most likely. Bit of a bug bear for me seeing people give their dogs a little chocolate treat, yes a little bit might not do any real damage but why bother when you know full well it is crap anyway. A lot of human food nowadays has no nutritional value and contains more crap than its worse consuming anyway, better in the bin than in your dogs or better still dont put the rubbish in the first place. I should say i feed my dogs plenty of scraps but nothing that has been processed in anyway, mind you i wouldn
  4. Jesscal nice bed x if it is doing any work I would suggest removing the collar or at the very least the tag hanging off better safe than sorry atb Matt
  5. http://i1359.photobucket.com/albums/q788/Morrell1979/Mobile%20Uploads/th_trim.C6D58AC5-9EDD-4D3E-A1B8-2CA528A9E556_zpsz1hurlde.mp4 bit bleak on the local hills lately, haven't been able to work the pup last couple of week alongside the lurcher as she ha been in season. Just a bit of exercise and recall work atb
  6. Haven't managed to get the run fully sorted yet but they have plenty of room inside the shed for a couple of days and natural light. They have spent the majority of time in the sleeping box fast asleep, friendly little things atb
  7. Shame hope the hob recovers. Took a few lads out on my permission a while back, nice enough lads but one of there dogs spent the entire time trying to fight with one of ours, dog wasn't interested in work just a scrap. Sad and ruined the day, prefer a mooch on my own for these such reasons atb
  8. Will post some up tomorrow when the run is finished. Kept them in tonight as didn't get them until late on. They have plenty of room in the shed set up and it seems ferret proof after a few adjustments, last I checked they were fast asleep in one Of my old coats, they seem friendly enough, whether they work remains to be seen atb
  9. Surely A dog with half a brain and plenty of drive will jump a fence in pursuit of prey it's not rocket science. I don't know the dog in question but from what has been said it appears to lacks desire atb
  10. I have to agree with others it's not always easy to watch but all the runners I have grown up with would smash through anything to get at game, often with nasty outcomes but at the end of the day that's what running dogs should do IMO cheers
  11. I think we all want that dog fluff but in reality I have personally found it takes time for a pup to settle to the game, especially ferreting as patience is paramount and pups are sometimes lacking in that department jmo. Not all terriers are hyperactive nutters either, got one here at 10 month old very steady and listens well. Maybe not the norm but had plenty of this type in my family down the years or all types of terrier xs atb
  12. Why are they wrecked? Surely that could still do te job they were breed for or am I missing something. Yes the rails are shorter than a usual dock but can't see why the dogs can't go onto work, don't think they have cut it's grit and determination off as well atb
  13. Picking up a couple of ferrets tomorrow just finished off the court and attached indoor bit in the old chicken shed I had down the bottom of the garden, will post some pics tom in day light. My question is would you give the new ferrets access to the run straight away or keep them in the indoor section which is about 5x5 plus 3x1 sleep box, not really I big issue either way I suppose but thought I would ask those with more experience with ferrets cheers
  14. Can you not cut the door down and fit it with mess/ window for fresh air and natural light atb
  15. Going to line the whole thing with new mess including the floor and lay about 2 inches of gravel on top to allow drainage hopefully do the trick. Based in Staffordshire cheers
  16. Just the 2 to start with might get more later on see how it's goes with 2 to start with then I would like to bring on some kits we shall see. Chickens are housed at the school I work at now, so I get the kids to do the hard work and get plenty of eggs. Hence the old chicken set up is empty cheers matt
  17. Decided to take the plunge a get some ferrets after a few years without them. Seems a good time as I am back near where I grew p and have access to my uncles farmland. I am in the process of converting an ok Chicken shed and run into a ferret court any suggestions would be appreciated. I am planning on toppig the chicken wire up with some finer mesh as the old stuff is not ferret proof. The floor in the run area is currently just wood bark and I had sunk the wide down on a rift angle into the ground I stop any foxes getting at the chickens. Question is will this be sufficient to keep the stink
  18. Game rooster SLT sporting lucas terrier yes
  19. I know of a good little litter of SLT pups but in think last I heard they were all spoken for. I will check as they would be ideal for someone wanting a little busher atb
  20. We had a pure greyhound brought over from Ireland when I was a kid and this bitch really stands out, I was only a kid and the dog was probably taller than me but would trot alongside me on walks no bother at all. She was owned by my grandad but he gave in and gave it to my dad eventually. We would go watch her run every Friday night at the track and be out walking in the week and doing training sessions. I was generally used as the rabbit and would run the other length of the football field and when far enough away my old man or older brother would slip her and she would bomb over full pelt ne
