  1. Hope you guys can lend me some of your expertise. I am looking for a pup, praticulary for the lamp for rabbit and the odd sly bugger.. but an overall all rounder mainly lamp but a bit of day work , what would you say is the best x to get? I am being given a lot of conflicting advice, a fair few saying collie grey, but other peeps saying that there to big???? I'm not in to long/rough haired dogs,so looking for short haired. How much should I get of what in a pup? say collie whippet grey, how much would be better more collie or more grey. what size should I want a dog be at for what I'm look
  2. a 177 would not have enough power to kill a fox the pellet wouldnt even be enough to penetrate the skull and even if it did it wouldnt kill it straight out air rifles are meant for small vermin, such as rooks, crows, rabbits, rats, squirrels etc...not a fox. Don't listen to this person if you were to do this you could very well open your self up to prosecution under the animal welfare act.. The advice you have been given is good advice apart from this comment....
  3. apart from being illegal using a mk 4 on rabbit on a young rabbit it might be enough but a full grown rabbit not quick enough, how can a mk 6 be over kill, once its dead its dead correct
  4. whats in them dogs in pictures 1,7,8. lovely looking dogs.
  5. is it still legal to use fox nets
  6. wouldnt mind tagging along i have a jack russel
  7. and what x would be the best for lamping and day ferreting - (not keen on long haired dogs)
  8. how do you find the turplex traps any good? never used them before. I usually use the half barrol duffus trap
  9. Being certified doesent mean your a better molecatcher than the next man nor does any amount of training. You have to be out there up to your elbows in it gaining the experience and know how. You train yourself. As to obtaining " certification" from the "guild" it all costs and thats what it all comes down to. Being a member certainly doesent guarantee anybody work. So why would you not consider yourself a professional? If you are out there doing it then your living the molecatcher dream!! ha, I would hardly call it "living the dream" as no other molecatcher would - I only do it on a
  10. "Legal methods are shooting, live catch traps (you can relocate foxes although this is a contentious issue) and snares (both lethal and live capture) I know self locking snares are illegal, but your quote that I have underlined seems to state that self locking snares are legal as that is the only lethal snare? I may have just got it wrong tho of course......
  11. Thanks bootsha. I have added you as a friend. May I ask if you are involved with fox hounds in anyway? you can inbox me should you not want to make it public to prying eyes.
  12. if your using a fox cage trap you will be pointing the gun in the cage at the fox so it will be pointed to the ground which will be legal and depending on what gauge you use it might cause a stir with ya neighbors. a bolt gun is not recommended because as you have been told you will have to put your hand in to the trap and put the gun on the foxs head...not an easy task and if you value your fingers I would disregard that method straight away. Ring up your local police and ask how much it is for a SGL it differs from force to force although it is a very thorough process the police will need to
  13. yes i can understand it might raise suspicions because of the sneaky sly ways of the anti b*****ds who have made things difficult for people getting in to this sort of thing. whats made me ask is I have just finished watching "hounds * the huntsman" on horse & country TV and i suppose you can say has inspired me to want to get involved. I work dogs and was interested in how someone would get in to the hunt service working with the hounds etc. Thanks for your timely and detailed response
  14. Thank you for the detailed reply much appreciated. so there is no chance of just ringing up the kennels and asking then? I am also considering helping out at the kennels, how do I go about doing this? Do you do anything involving hounds? Cheers mate
  15. how do you mean the hounds looked the part?
  16. Watching this same situation as me mate, it's good to ask the people who own them what beagles.harries are better at in hunting. Will keep an eye on this thread and look forward to some answers.
  17. and also, what does it involve? how many times do they need taking out etc etc and what do you feed them on? i know the hunt feed the hounds raw meat, is that what any of you puppy walkers that respond to this feed them on?
  18. I just use one of them posts used for clipping electric fence together
  19. looking for an active warren would be a start. look for fresh dropping/scratchings around the entrance. The mk6 isn't really suitable for the larger rabbit, just like I think the mk4 isnt suitable for big rats, as when triggered I have had to put may rats/rabbits out there misery because it isnt large enough to do what it is intended for - cervical dislocation/snapping of the spine for instant death in some cases not all. However these traps are effective killers I use them everyday. Another bit of advice is, not all rabbit warrens are occupied by rabbits...
