ive had a ferret die unexpectedly with no symptoms in the past few weeks and another die today which did develop dark patches around its face and ears. these patches were not scabby and the ferret didnt show any other signs of distemper, although she did lose quite a bit of weight. after a consultation with the vets they said that its very unlikely that it was CDV, however ive got my other ferrets and dogs booked in for blood tests just to be safe. the likelihood is that its another virus, the vet said it may have been a strain of flu virus which has affected them but just to be safe we're

I understand from both sides as where I live there is a mixture of REAL lurcher men and other mindless idiots just out to kill, in my opinion you shouldn't kill what you aren't going to eat or use unless its causing the farmer a problem. I've got a little permission here and there mostly for ferrets, but I've realised the more I look after the land and do a good job the more the word passes on. A lot of public around my way also have a problem with lads with the dogs as they see what we do as 'cruel'; I'll tell you now that my dogs and ferrets are extremely well cared for with no time or

Hi all, it is with very much regret that i am having to cut down on my number of ferrets as i am going to be working away quite a lot and my mum cant look after all if my ferrets. ive got an albino jill around 19 months old which im going to have to get rid of, she's a really keen worker and a good bolter. the ferret herself is free to a good working home (if i think you wont look after her then i wont let you have her), i also have her hutch which is a 2 storey in good condition which i would like £30 for, it comes with a food bowl and drinks bottle . im located in Newton Aycliffe

as long as you arent caught in the act surely there is no evidence in court? your dog could be injured due to collisions with fences or fighting on with other dogs? as for hair in their throats; deer, fox, hare and badger die regularly as do other animals. the dog must have found once mooching about and picked it up?

how much? and wehre are you located?

Ever seen a ferret be sick? I Did tonight :/
DanRaistrick replied to Jonezy's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
with my ferrets they get 2 water bottles on the cage (2 ferrets per cage) and a litter tray full of water which they like to lie and swim about in to keep cool. all of my hutches are positioned so that theyre in the shade at the hottest points of the day. ive never had a dehydration problem yet but heard about so many people having ferrets die of it :/ -

i just stick my little jill in my barbour pocket where she just sits with her little face popping out, in the other i carry a few nets. had a few little warrens ive done before but usually lose a few due to lack of nets on the 6/7 holers.. thats what the beddy whippet shall come in handy for next season -
seen a few for sale down near the liverpool area but its a bit far :/ as your from N.Yorks if you hear of any in the are could you please drop me a message? cheers bud

As a young hunter myself, i often find it hard to get permission to ferret anywhere unless i know the person well. i have done a good job of reducing the numbers of rabbits in the permission and never once had a complaint from the property owner, and they've always been pleased with the numbers of rabbits i get. ive been out asking for permission a couple of times; dressed smartly and been very polite.. only to be sucessful on one occasion. does anyboody else find it difficult? personally, i think as im young, im not being taken seriously by the people who i have asked. Or perhaps

difficult when you actually care about them aint it mate. ive got a few mates after a few kits off my best two next year cos theyre a crackin set of workers. i hope the jill doesnt have too many though cos ive only got homes for 4 pre-planned. the rest will only go to good working homes and i want to know how theyre being kept. treat your workers right and theyll treat you right

DanRaistrick replied to shaunpauls7's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
seen a cracking chicken coop on ebay that would be spot on for the ferts for something like 65 quid, have a look for one of them, ive built my own hutches though and personally think thats the best way! -
got this just over a month ago, decent little gun to be fair. i was just thinking about getting more power out of it and how hard this would be? anybody got one? cheers
-
best thing to do mate is try get a rabbit with the skin on and feed it to the ferret, that should give the ferret a taste for them i started off on my own without any help and just the info off here as a guide. just start with small warrens and net up quitely, leave the area for a few minutes and when you return wack the ferret down. (always best to try it with an experienced one first) if not it should pick it up after it works out that thats where the food lives when the ferret is down, try and stay quiet and stand above where you may think the tunnels go (should help you feel
