  1. So i guess its quite a common thing then? its good how they can become so well trained for such humble animals. whenever i tell anybody about him they dont seem to beleive me and everyone seems to think that ferrets are 'stupid' animals.. just goes to show how little people have the time for these amazing animals, both as workers and pets!
  2. I'd work it for a bit more than one season and give it a bit more thought before you just unnecessarily churn out a litter to be honest. It will only be bred if he proves himself to be a good worker, and when that happens he can be bred. after one season? if thats all he takes to prove himself then possibly

  4. Hopefully the behaviour will stick and he will be obedient. I hope it does help when we come around to season as im planning to work him. he's getting big already and ive got high expectations of him as i was told his mother and father were great workers and also very well behaved. if he turns out to be a good worker then i'll be making sure we get some good kits from him next year (providing my jills turn out to be good workers, as i will only breed him with the best one) looks like ive got myself a good'n
  5. Yeah he gets quite a bit of exercise off it as he only has little legs haha im going to try and get my jills to do it but for some reason i dont think they will.. they seem less interested in me and more in running around in the bushes and under the shed lol
  6. are there any differences in the genes of 'wild polecats' and ferrets?
  7. I've got a 8 and a half week old ferret which ive had for just over two weeks. he gets quite a bit of attention(as do my other 3 jills), but this one is different. as soon as you i go into the back garden he comes straight to the cage door and makes his little ferret noises. he loves to be handled and plays with both people and the other ferrets well. bit of a nibbler but he doesnt bite, he just sorta grabs, but it doesnt hurt. now heres the weird bit... i took him out the front when i was putting the bins out and placed him on the floor.. and to my supprise, he followed me. so
  8. Like to see somebody get hold of my dog lol, they'd sharp bring the little b*****d back haha
  9. I have 3 jill kits and 1 hob. all between 7.5-9 weeks old. 2 albino jill sisters 1 poley cross jill 1 silver hob planning to work them all as my friend has a large farm with several warrens so there's never not enough work to be done! was considering breeding one a year and getting the other two taken out of season by a vasectomised male. also my mate has a albino hob which is a great worker so may consider getting a litter of kits off that! just gonna see how it goes really, if we get a really good worker; we'll breed of it.. if not then it'll just be kept as a pet.
  10. ive got 3 hutches at the minute, one 5x3x5 for my hob which i made myself, its got two floors connected by a ladder, the upstairs being its 'bedroom' and feeding area and the downstairs has things for him to play with. one 6x2x4, again connected by ladders, a 'bedroom' on each floor and an area for feeding and playing. i then have a much smaller 2x1.5x2 which i used when one of my kits was ill just to seperate it to make sure it was getting enough food and rest from the other little buggers! haha im planning on attaching the smaller hutch to a run which im going to make soon so tha
  11. That's tough mate, what do you feed them now? If you think they are very young I would give them mince and wet cat food. Have you seen them drinking? Can you take some pictures of them to show us? They've been getting premium kitten food (high in protein and fat and not too high in fibre) mixed in with ferret biscuits which im trying to get them on instead of the wet stuff. i also put meat in for them like chicken and a bit of mince and stuff once every two days. they've both been eating and drinking and stuff just one more than the other... until now! the little one has
  12. ive got 2 jills at 7 weeks old now.. havent had much experience of ferrets before.. do they come into season only in the early summer time or at a certain age? cheers
  13. I've just got 2 jills which i was told were 6 weeks old. I got them given off a friend of a friend as he just wanted rid of them. I've also got a 7 week old hob (which is about 3 times the size!!) I'm not sure if they are 6 weeks old and just haven't been fed properly or if they are younger to be honest. What's the best thing i can feed them to try and help them put a bit of weight on and grow? They are really small to be honest and i dont think they have been looked after too well, one of them is eating fine and starting to put some wight on but the other doesnt eat much and appe
