You can't feck about with Pork pies. Time is of the essence that's for sure. My dog had a large thorn in his eye while working cover. I had the dog to the vet within a few hours as i could see the thorn and the dog was not opening the eye voluntarily. so they operated removing the thorn (which kept breaking up) re inflated the eye ball with air and stitched the eye ball up (amazing suture work) this without doubt saved the eye! There is a pic of the stitched eye in Skycats book. Good luck Sirius

Thornit is excellent stuff, used it on ferrets and dogs.

Yes, I am sure it's just one of those things,it's in them or it isn't. No doubt can be made worse by incorrect entering, but if its there it's there. Gutting to find out after 10-11 months of raising and training that is a yapper, then you have to decide IF you can live with it. I can't.

I have places like that down here and they are hard old places to get a dog to catch, have a fair few myself. If the dog catches 1 in 12 it's doing well. The stand off rarely leads to success. Is that 1 in 12 seen or 1 in 12 run?If its the latter, it must be demoralising for man and dog? Not a crab, just wondering as if it was me, I'd be questioning myself and my mutts Cheers, D. Don't worry Dykos, I question why I keep such under achievers every day Ran 8 the other evening in the day light and came home with zilch. My point is you can have places stacked with rabbits

90' or the series are good off road, but what ever your driving there are places that will get you stuck thats for sure . With a good series or 90 you stand a better chance. You will always need to tinker with them but at least parts are not expensive compared to Jap stuff. You dont need wide tyres either or half the gaylord crap people put on them.

If its a fatty growth (lipoma) its no big deal usually, you either put up with it or get it taken off, in most cases these are easily surgically removed so shop around with vets to get a good price.

Fitness And Conditioning (Skycat) Running Dog Maintenance
Sirius replied to paulus's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
First class book, every Lurcher owner should have a copy. -
Few snaps of ol Skipper, put a few bits of game to bed and a handy lamp dog, one of the fastest sprint merchants I have seen. He did struggle on the turn, still we managed and was a honest dog. 27" tts and Lurcher to Lurcher bred.

I only use a vet to do my dogs jabs, but just shop around after all they are supplying a service you are not going to them for a consultation as such just to administer a medicine? I only get the first initial jabs done and I don't use boosters other than Lepto if I think the dog needs it. I believe boostes are NOT always needed every year any more, inoclations have moved on and don't need to be used as regularly, so worth doing your homework before going to the vet.

i like the breeding, be nice if they were to be broken coated as well.

Blue Spray Or Purple Spray
Sirius replied to DazAllison1's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Me too but I have stopped now with wounds as it really inhibits tissue to mend itself. It's fine as a wash for your hands and for dogs feet but salt water or manuka are better for wound care and general lead to faster healing. -
Blue Spray Or Purple Spray
Sirius replied to DazAllison1's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
The blue spray is an antibiotic Terramycin and is a POM The purple spray is available over the counter and does not have an antibiotic. I have used the blue spray allot with nail bed nasties and punctures its pretty useful, along with salt water washes. -
I agree Dykos its all about desensitising the dog to the car and building confidence gradually. I often recommend that people feed the dog in the car or use treats or even a toy for a play in a stationary car without going anywhere just to start a interest and get the dog to see the car as a positive place. Once you can get the dog to chill and be relaxed around the car then move to the next step such as doing the same with engine running, then small journeys etc. This is generally better with anxiety based problems and not so much true motion sickness. The thing you do have to remembe

Cheers Heritage I may try that process. For now silvers and the hob live in the small run and the four others live in the big court.
-
I have been splitting them off and introducing them in various different combinations. Don't worry they haven't been beaten up for two weeks solid :-) I have had this once before and it ended with a one way ticket to rainbow bridge, I just won't tolerate it.
-
Well it's two weeks now and I am fed up of listening to the punch ups and finding the silvers like soggy messes in the corner of the court. I will split the silvers on with a hob and try again in a few weeks. Never had this so bad over the years!
-
I have kept ferrets communally in a big court for sometime, but I have recently introduced two new silver Jill's which are a year old. My existing lot are 4 Jill's and a hob. Two Jill have been seriously scrapping with the new Jill's to the point I have had to move them to another run. I reintroduced one Jill today and still they are scrapping not so bad this time but not ideal. The two new silvers are now living in the nest box with the rest sleeping outside in the hammock in the court. I am determined to persevere any advice? I have only ever had this problem with one nasty Jill before and

Maybe your right baldy? Worth a go as I find it interesting.

Milked Up Bitch - Epsom Salts
Sirius replied to jhiggins's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Listen to ol sceptic lol but I can understand your argument. I agree the logic makes no sense with regard to homeopathy but I have seen it work and know thousands of cases where it has as i work in the veterinery industry, i like logic and scientific evidence myself in this case I don't know but it does seem to work fairly consistantly. -
I think we all know we could do that short cut lol The thread was to hear about peoples experiences who have actually started from scratch.
