  1. I used to snare when I done the Gamekeeping. Enjoyed it but badgers caught in fox snares around the pens was a nightmare. Had to pin them with a fence post and cut the wire. Never had much success at the rabbits. I had better luck with foxes. I got taught to build a tunnel out of wood and leave it on a run for a week or so with sand on the floor. Keep checking the sand for footprints and then set the snare. Worked well but not the best. I got shown a few ways, to set them on runs where the rabbit 'jumps' to clear small obstacles such as fallen branches or stones. Also to put out

  5. Army surplus wouldn't use them for firewood...... What boots...... Well I've got altberg Warriors and lows mountain gtx....... Used the lowas in Afghan 2009 and both in the winter tour-sep 2010- april2011. Honest opinion: Altberg- I went to the altberg factory in Richmond to get them fitted. I have No complaints about them apart from I (and others) feel they get a bit cold on the toes. Pretty Durable and look the part. Lowa- The toughest boots I've used. Had them since 2008 and they're Still doing the job. Very tough soles, good ankle support and comfy As feck

  11. Been reading a book where the author used baked been tins with the ends cute out, jammed into a rat hole with stockings on to catch bolting rats. Also seen a snare where the stick Was bent and the rabbit triggered the stick to flick up and snare it...... Not sure what this was called. These old tricks and methods intrigue me, I've heard loads but can't remember....... Sneaking up on burrown at night while the rabbits are out grazing and blocking the holes with stones. Scaring the rabbits into the back filled holes and putting your hand in to drag them out...... Anybody got any old

  17. Me too mate, been reading 'of pedigree unlnown' says they used to use the methods to catch them alive for selling on to eat pits etc. I put a post up about it in the ferreting section and terrier Section and it seems a lot of people use/have used it to good effect. They said you can hear hear where the rat bolt because of the tin. This book says the rat catcher put the live rats down his shirt until he had a chance to put then in a sack..... Said his party trick was putting the ferret and the rat down his shirt to fight eachother....... Just from a book but how True some of them are
