  1. What dog agression? If scocalised properly - like you should do with any breed of dog, then they shouldnt have any dog agression at all.
  2. Sounds like she possably had low blood sugar, it can be quite commen in working dogs that arnt at full peek fitness wise. http://alexadry.hubpages.com/hub/Hunting-Dog-Hypoglycemia
  3. I would probably go with a vibrateing collar, there are ones out there specaly for the deaf dog, and are not that expencive either, Deaf dogs are no different to hearing dogs - just they cant hear you, training is a little different, but can be done easily, all of us use body languge in some form when training our dogs - all's you would be doing is cutting out the voice controal, depending on what you intend the dog to do work wise, then i dont see why a deaf dog couldnt work. First of all i would get the pup tested, its not that expencive and then you would know if it is deaf - or jus
  4. thats one nice looking dog you have mate Thanks - shes not to bad for a rescue dog
  5. Think if you get the right amount of cross you can get brains and stamina. Have a little beddy x whippet/grey - 22" about 14 months old now she learns fast, and seems to learn by her mistakes - she came to me at 7 months had nothing done with her, so have brought her on slowly, she picks most things up with in a day, shes not the fastest dog out there - but does have the stamina to go all day. Have seen some catch feather. my own does work cover, but shes not very keen on thick brambals(sp) anything else she will go in to.
  6. Actualy its nothing to do with showing, you will find there has always been smooth coated afghans, there were 3 different types of coats reconised origanaly and 2 types of the breed - although both were inter bred and are now classes as one. types: Bukmal – also called Mukhmal and fully coated Kalagh – also called Kosa and feathered Luckbak – also called Loghaar and smooth there are the mountain type and the desert type. http://www.afghanhoundtimes.com/kalagh.htm http://www.afghanhoundtimes.com/type.htm http://www.afghanen.nl/surpriseseng.htm
  7. They do have stamina and can go all day, but they lack speed, generations of breeding for the show ring - theres no need for speed in a show ring.
  8. Everyone's insurances have gone up this year, i dont tend to stick to just one insurance when my policy is due for renewal, i go on the confused.com site and look round do this every year.
  9. I hate mornings and do prefare to be left alone till ive woken up properly, its one resion i work nights, as i just cant be doing with people or noise first thing.
  10. Is it bothering her or affecting her ? has the area grown? If no to these - then i wouldnt worry about it, just keep an eye on it.
  11. Gunner123 - one of my dogs can not eat raw food, the second he eats it - he pukes it back up, cooking it isnt realy good enough, as you loose a lot when you cook meat, veg etc He's been fed cheap dry food for all his life, he's now 16 - no signs of joint problems going a little deaf and starting to loose his sight, but no other health problems the food cost's me just under 9 quid for 15kg, all my dogs are fed on it, although occasionaly my youngest two will get some raw meat all are in good condition - have energy to burn and never have any health problems, they dont have any gut prob
  12. Speak to scallywag on hear, one of her dogs cut right through the tendons in one of its front legs, After the op - i think she got a physio in to do some type of treatment - i know that helped a lot, The dog does still run and does still catch. Hope she makes a good recovery.
  13. Depends what you want to learn and what camera you have (point and shoot, slr etc) http://www.dummies.com/Section/Photography-Video.id-323763.html http://photography.about.com/od/takingpictures/u/BasicsPath.htm http://photo.net/equipment/digital/basics/ http://www.bestphotolessons.com/
  14. Have you tried Traveleze pastilles you can get them from the chemist just dont say they are for the dog.
  15. The dummy is different to the real thing, the way it smells, the way it feels etc, your youngster is probably confused and probably hasnt clicked on. If you can get hold of a dead one, then try doing retrives with that, wind him up play chase, get him focused on it - like you would do with a dummy, i would probably do it out in the field and not in the garden, that way he can assocate the ones out in the field - with the dead one. I did the same with my youngster, got hold of a dead one - got her playing and retriving it also got her to carry it about half a mile home, since do
  16. If they did that they would have to pull every single person/s who are out with lurchers, as how would they know - your not from the area ? there are too many people in this country who own lurchers - either as working dogs or pets they just wouldnt waste their rescorces on it, would be pointless - especaly with the cuts that are happening.
  17. All pups go through this - what you need to do is make it worth your pups while to be with you, if something is more intresting than you are, then why should the pup come back to you? My little beddy x whippet/grey went through something simler recently, shes just over a year old and has found her drive sniffing round for sign's of bunnys was more intresting than i was, it got to the point of she didnt want to leave the area and even though i had walked half way down the track and out of sight she still stayed there, over the last week or so ive been taking dried liver out with me,
  18. My brothers beagle x is constantly travel sick, shes 3 year old and has never grown out of it, no matter what we have tried - most of the time shes fine till about 5 mins before we hit our destination, other times we only need to go a few mins down the road tried some of the travelezz tabs from the chemist ( the human ones) and them have seemed to help, she gets them an hour before traveling and shes not been sick once since taking them.
  19. The first one is fake just like the second one the car coming towards the thing, dosent even brake even though its right in the beam of the headlights. Anyones normal reaction to something running in front of their car is to brake!
  20. But dogs do not have the digestive system to cope with grains, if your going to be feeding a more natural diet/raw food, then grains like rice, oats bread etc shouldn't need to be added to the diet, otherwise whats the point of feeding natural you might as as well feed dry, grains are one also of the biggest sources of allergies in dogs.
  21. Dog or bitch? as bitch's can sometimes be off if there coming in to season or after a season and yes deerhounds can be finicky eaters, but ive found with mine shes more eager to eat if shes had a good run, although mine wont eat mince meat, so you could try giving something different and try soaking the dry and mixing it well, if you dont already do so. For putting weight on you could try satin ball's. Satin Balls This recipe is intended to be fed raw. 10lb hamburger meat 1 jar wheat germ 1 lg box of oatmeal (uncooked) 1 1/4 Cup vegetable oil 10 eggs 10 sm pkgs unfla
  22. There are lots of different strains of KC, so depending on which vaccine has been given and when it was given your dog could still catch it or one of the other strains. As has been said - give benylin original or give honey direct or in the water. Unfortunaly kc can last quite a few weeks, some dogs get over it with in days some it takes longer, but you need to make sure you keep them away from other dogs for a while as they will still be contagus(sp) for a while after the cough has gone.
  23. If its a proper event - then 12 months is the minimum - if its just fun racing, then some will do puppy races for under 12 months.
