    Starting out

For all you experienced lads, the likes of trev and socks,as you sound to no your stuff. How did you start with the dogs? I'm very intrested with the greyhounds and would like to learn more, so any pointers, opionions would be appreciated
  6. excellent lucky. Glad to see things turned out well for you with the dog situation.. all the best
  7. All the best with him mate, he'll be a powerfull dog by the look of him!
  8. i've been told, if you hang a ping pong ball or tennis ball, something like anyway, and smear it in peanut butter believe it or not, make sure its off the ground so the rats have to stand up for a taste...you'll be laughing, just sit tight and pick them off... Never tried it myself, but been told it works 'Rat-tastic' :11:
  9. what a b*****d mate, what were the circumstances? ran the quarry into a wood an that was it, you didn't see him again? Longest i've lost a dog for was 1/2 an hour, an that was worrying alone! all the best
  10. chainsaw, or whatever machinery you choose, get some of the raditor tube from an old car from the scrappy, that black pipe put it on the exhaust, oily mix and walla... meant to work a treat, don't do any ratting myself, was just told from a mate...
  11. Always had a collar on them... and all the lads i no run there's with them onto... Never seen any problems, but was actually thinking about this a few weeks back, "advantages? Dis-advantages?" i thought to myself -more advantages then dis-advantages in my eyes anyway.. each to their own, good hunting
  12. 'mik' Has your running machine ever taken a red, i'm not talking about the monster stags, but a yearling or doe?
  13. i suppose you right lads. cheers.
  14. Went out last night with a mate just for a quick shine.. with my dog and his 8 1/2 month old first x bull. Spotted a roe at the side of a wood, a good 100 yards away, expecting it just to drop into the wood, but it had other ideas... this must have been the thickest deer ever i thought to myself , as it moved away from the wood and down a hederow, now i was excited, my dog had seen it, so we gave him a big slip, the deer just stood facing a hedrow, it looked asif the dog was going to pull it on the spot, the roe just stood there but with a little turn the deer moved off at full flight down
  15. Good question dillion, One of the smaller deer, muntys or chinky's i'd say. But thats just my own view point, i'm sure the more experienced lads will give better answers. we started mine on the chinkys... But each deer has its advantages and disadvantages...
  16. get some picture's up of your dog, and its 9 out of 10 roe, and you've just sorted out little debate, you come and kill 9 out of 10 roe deer up here, we'll see what happens... I hope your not thinking i'm saying a hare is easier to kill than a roe, as the hare is a very hard game for our running machines to catch. Also i never said the hares up here are faster :11: as i'm guessing the hares down south will no the score All the best...
  17. not slaging you of smudge or anything as your out there doing it, living the life... but snaring is in my eyes the worst possible form of 'hunting', what excitment can it bring? yes your finding a run and setting a snare, but then the next day you check it and have a dead fox... pointless, save them for the terriers, or the lurcher work. But if i'm correct in saying your some sort of keeper? then its not as bad, as you have a job to do... but still i disagree with it. Each to their own. Good hunting.
