Your right there Earth. Theres been a heel of a lot of it on here lately Hate to say it but less coppers about is good for not gettin caught speedin but it means theres less of them to deal with stuff like this Sam
  4. Good luck gettin her back mate and findin out who did it Sam
  5. Muck boots do the job for me mate. Iv stood in the snow for hours over the past few winters and my feet have been like toast! Think they start at about 70 quid so they aint as pricey as some others. Sam
  6. Thanks for the comments guys. Some stuff I hadn't even thought of doing. Im not too fussed what I have to do to make him catch, my only worry was that Id end up doin something wrong and have the oposite effect as he's the first running dog I've had. Any more suggestions would be much appreciated Sam
  7. First off, I just want to say hi as this is my first post on the "Lurchers & Running Dogs" section. I am a out and out terrier man but we got hold of a 15 month old whippet dog around a month back. The guy who had him before me had started working him but he needed bringin on. He got rid of him because he didnt have the time for him so we took him on. I have had him out lamping once and this was purely to see how he works. I found that he was over running rabbits and wasnt thinking about when they turn. I know that this is to do with him being young, inexperienced and over-eager. What
  8. I have a 7 month old patterdale and she was given a dead squirrel at about 5 month (the one in my avatar)and by the time she was 6 month she was out rattin and catchin rats herself. Its down to the individual dog and how they mature, you don't want to be giving them rats if you don't think that they will be able to take a bite or two as it might put them off Now shoud be spot on though! Good luck with them mate! Sam
  9. Nice dog, looks like a dog that belongs to a mate of mine. Good luck with it Sam
  10. Nice lookin dog that mate! Good luck with her. Hope she does you proud Sam
  11. As you probably know from having running dogs, yapping is frustration so if you take almost any dog out when it is young to bush out rabbits it wont be quick enough to catch therefore will end up yapping IMO It works for me ATB Sam
  12. Ye get him on a lead mate. I know a few lads who have got/have had dogs like that and it doesn't have to be anythin in particular that starts it off either. If you like him and he works well them keep him on a lead when your out. If not, bye bye. It's a right pain in the arse when your out for a day with a dog like that. Good luck though mate Sam
  13. I agree gnipper. Your askin for trouble if your takin them in urban areas. Someone is bound to see or hear you. Proper ferrels that are pretty much wild are as bad as foxes for taking rabbit, chicken and game birds and put up a fight too Sam
  14. Nice lookin pup that mate! Good luck with him How old is he? Sam
  15. I had a problem with one of mine when she was a pup. Anything like mustard, chilli sauce, grapefruit juice or lemon juice will do the trick on the kennel itself but I never found a bed that she didn't wreck. I gave up in the end and whenever she pulled the stuffing out the bed, I just put it all back in the kennel. "Indistructable beds" are a pile of shite. When they are described as "Indistructable" all it means is they can charge you double the price and its made of thicker stuff. I have a 7 month old patt pup now and since I got her they have always been on meat and bones. I've noticed
  16. Good luck. Hope you get your dogs back Wish you could find the sly little b*sturds to show em a thing or 2 All the best Sam
  17. Where's the cake, is it a Victoria Sponge ?? I could kill a victoria sponge right now. I'm starvin Ive just KILLED A LOVELY ''APPLE PIE & CUSTARD'' Lucky B*sturd
  18. I hunt with a guy regularly over the winter who point blank refuses to pay much - if anything, for his dogs and when he's after another dog (if there is no one locally with pups) looks through the 'free to good home' ads in papers etc. and has had some little crackers. He's had one that was around 3 and was 100% pet material but worked his socks off below ground. This isn't my opinion - i'd prefer to spend and get a good dog from workin lines. I'm just sayin that it's possible that dogs from all different backgrounds and ages may work given the opertunity Sam
  19. Where's the cake, is it a Victoria Sponge ?? I could kill a victoria sponge right now. I'm starvin
  20. I've been watchin the Pickaxe threads and other threads over the past couple of days and you've said what I was thinkin well said that man! Remember that advert years ago; "My dad says our cars better than yours"......"Well my dad says my TV's bigger than yours" Sam
  21. Ill back you up there neil i have a russell spitting image of yours dog or bitch ?? Ye I have one very similar too - more black on the ears though Sam
  22. I got a russell bitch 15" and a 6 month old bitch around 12" Sam
  23. Nice dog mate good luck with him but going by that third pic im afraid you've been ripped off. Your dogs got no head Sam
  24. IMO The dogs that go into a bush and come back out again need to know what they are going in to the bush for in the first place. They may chase a rabbit in a field but do they know the smell of a rabbit? If the dog is in a bush but doesn't know what a rabbit smells like and can't see a rabbit then what is the point in being in the bush? Whereas if they are in a bush and can't see any rabbits but do know the smell of a rabbit and they can smell the rabbit in the bush then they're going to go and find it. Just go right back to basics Think of it like this, your a man, you like women becau
