I've been lookin on the Lurchers and Running dogs forum and have been watching the "Lets see your bull crosses Topic ( http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/158351-lets-see-your-bull-crosses/ ) . I love lookin at pics of working dogs and there are some real nice dogs on this topic but I flicked through the pages and saw pics of some really scarred up dogs, some with fresh cuts etc. Now, I am not blinkered and even though I'm only 20 I'd like to think I know the game fairly well but please engage your brains before postin pics like this - pre ban or not! I know some may feel the need t

Very nice BBB. I like that a lot! What percentage is he? Sam

I've got an 11 month old patt bitch and a 2 1/2 year old russell bitch that are kenneled together 24/7 and have had no problems so far. My patt is the dominant one already but my russell has just seemed to accept that but always be ready and able to separate them if anything happens! I also have a whippet dog kenneled with them during the daytime and the only time there are any problems is when the whippet gets a bit horny and gets an ear full....I'm sure we can all can sympathise Sam

Thanks Mick, Good to know even though yours are 1/2 saluki. I'll have my hands plenty full enough this winter with my whippet but it's something to consider for the future. I like the one in the bottom pic of yours mate very nice ATB Sam

I really like this mix. Nice pics. How do they fare over shorter fields? What's their acceleration like? There aren't many big fields around me so acceleration is key. Thanks Sam

Same as on the last page, aggression has nothing to do with working terriers but more to do with the upbringing and breeding. The one thing I would say though is if you choose to seek dog training or dog training classes beware of these 'wet' trainers with 'wet' ideas on how to train these dogs that can't think for themselves because working strains of terriers are different and will need more than "if they do something right, praise them. If they do something wrong, ignore them". Cesar Milan is a good one to watch on TV if you can. He isn't soft and he isn't too harsh and what he says mak

A guy I know was out lamping with a gun. He had a shot at a rabbit that was on the run, it turned straight towards him runnin full speed so in an attempt to stop it, he kicked it hard and broke his foot

Good read lads. Can't wait to get out myself now. What's the breeding of your black and white dog KittleRox? Sam

I've got a similar problem atm. I've got a whippet. He's my first running dog. Due to one thing and another I haven't been able to give him the time out that he could do with. He runs well and retrieves live to hand when he catches and can be very soft mouthed but some runs he just seems to wait too long for the right time to strike. - Well, that's what I presume it is. I reckon that it's an easy thing to watch from the side lines and criticize like your in a pub watchin a footie game but when your new to it all and actually out there, I bet it's a different deal. I can see mine is improving a

A wonderful thing is karma mate. Sounds like you have no respect for your dogs to me. When you say to someone "there's no more room in the kennel" it's usually an answer to someone asking if you want a dog and not "I've just bought a pup and have to kick this (supposedly good working) dog out". What a crap reason to get rid of a dog. Also, why are you braggin about your lurcher killing rabbits? I wouldn't want to go home with a bag full of bruised, useless meat. You didn't just come across as a bit of a pr1ck........

It's sad to think someone would do that but they will always be around. You can't ban them all because you'll never keep track of them all. You have to rely on common sense. Maybe the lad should have had someone go with him to look at the dog - someone with more experience. You wouldn't buy a car without a test drive. Don't get me wrong, I by no means think it's all the lads fault but as has been said already, you live and learn. Hopefully he wont make the same mistake again. That's just how it looks to me, from the outside. ATB with him finding another. Sam

lamping last nite bitch broke her leg
Terrier Sam replied to mighty celt's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Sorry to hear that mate. From what I've heard about broken legs, even if you fork out the notes theres still no guarantees. Like Harry says, You've got to be cruel to be kind sometimes. I know I'd hate to be in that position but I'd also hate to see a dog hobble around in pain for months and months not knowin if it's goin to get any better. Atb Sam -

IMO there are the people that sell borders, plummers for 3, 4, 500 quid a pop but there are also the honest guys that sell real working stock at a decent price. Just like if you flick through a paper or on the net you will find people sellin jack russells for 300 quid but you and i know that you can still get em very cheap if not for free from huntsmen etc. Also FTB, whats the difference between a bushing terrier and a beating dog? A bushing terrier enters bushes and the like to flush out game/rabbit etc. A beating dog......exactly the same but the difference is, beating dogs as we know th

I'd say a hound x terrier or a plummer? Plummers are renound for their good nose and ratting/rabbiting. I've never had one so I couldn't tell you more than that but I did look into them myself. The reason I decided against it was bacause I wanted a dog for earthwork as well as a bit of ratting etc. there are dogs bred more for what I needed. Hope this helps. ATB Sam

nice dogs mate just watch what you post on here though mate if you dont want the busys knocking ok mate foxing with dogs is banned dont forget an theres loadsa antis on here aswell as dog thieves mate tidy dogs pal Foxing with terriers aint banned. So long as you use a soft dog that will bolt the fox which, going by the pics, thats what happened Also, the foxes where takin game birds too weren't they its important to add that because a fox taking livestock is not a legitimate reason anymore - only foxes that are taking game birds can be controlled by using a terrier Oh an those
