    Getting Footed

So how are you going to man the bird and do fist work if you are not going to feed from the glove.. ..when my bird is pulled from the enclosure after the moult he will and will not be allowed to feed anywhere else apart from on the glove.. when the bird first comes it will be put to the bow perch, when its settled and ready to feed it will be given a bit from the glove after this it will have to jump to the glove for a bit when it does another bit (slightly bigger bit) will be thrown to the floor straight away when its finished it will probably return to the bow perch, after this its of

  9. True mate you might not see the best flights in the world but i bet the bird wont argue its still hunting!
  10. they are easy to train but anything bigger is usually considererd a challenge and what does a bull do in a challenge... it moves forward and what does he do when it (or both) get hold of sheep or a cow or horse or worse some dog walkers family pet you get away with it and headline is pit bull terrier savages cattle its the breed that gets blamed. you say you ownwed a "pitty" you should know this being the responsable owner you are!
  11. Sorry to here that mate bet its hard to let go especially a hunting partner like a BOP you gain a massive bond with. i work 6-2 2-10 shifts so there will be some time every day if im still doing that when i eventually get a bird just didnt think you could get the best out of a bird from weekend hunting like the wouldbe mentor tells me glad to know you guys opinion, he doesnt train his bird the way i'v been planning anyway to much feeding from the the fist, treats it more like a solitary BOP rather than a harris hawk thanks for the comments lads Micky
  12. did you try and train it through the week an bit of time each night exercising, jump ups etc or was it just to hard to work with little light in the afternoon thanks for the comment Micky
  13. id find one a good home then you can put all your effort into one plus you want to properly socialise it with other dogs any one else who has a bull will tell you trust me and even then they can turn in the blink of an eye
  14. Hi all dont post much just read but wondering how many of you who work normal shifts go out with your birds first thing in a morning or at night lamping through the week and how many just wait until weekend i know someone who just flys at weekend and says its fine (was going to be my mentor), you cant be getting the most out of your bird just weekend hunting can you? Im mainly talking about harris hawks but all concerned i'd like your opinions Thanks Micky

  16. i'm having that problem with one of my kits this year the thing is i dont think its going deep enough into the warren i put it down and it kept poppin out of other holes straight away put mum down and its all quiet (tell tale sign shes working!) and then every rabbit down their decides to vacate at the same time bit of adrenelin when theirs only two pairs of hands
  17. sounds like they've been dumped and found pretty quick to find them together as they would probably just wonder off in they own direction depends how young but for the time of year its most likely.
  18. he means put a more experienced ferret down after the kit comes out to make sure it didnt miss any
  19. when you said a few pics of the ground i thought .....
