  1. Well our first day of the season went very well but wasn't without fault! Max was a lot less whingy this year than last but he's still very fidgety, having to watch every single bird that flies past us. He also had a problem with selective deafness which was particularly annoying when I was trying to put him on a runner while a gun watched! Ending on a positive though, Max is very good at his job and was bringing me birds faster than I could brace them up! He'd never win a field trial but it was very satisfying to walk past the keeper with 2 handfuls of partridges and at the same
  2. Thanks guys, that's exactly the kind of advise I needed. I'll stick to one meal at the end of the day. Thanks again.
  3. I've been feeding my labx BARF for over a year now made up predominantly from butcher's mince and chicken carcasses/lamb bones. I'm very happy with it and will never go back to complete. I've been feeding him in a single evening meal but we start picking-up tomorrow and feel it may be a bit much to take him out for a whole days work without any breakfast, so.... If I split his food into two meals (breakfast/dinner) do I feed him the bones in the morning and the mince in the evening, the mince in the morning and the bones in the evening or half and half for both meals?
  4. It's the first day of my second season of picking-up tomorrow. Summer training has gone well and Max (my lab x pointer) is now much more responsive to whistle commands at distance. For the past couple of weeks we've been helping the keeper with dogging-in which has helped desensitise Max to birds running and flying around him. Now the shooting season is well under way for many of you, how's it going? Beating, picking-up, rough shooting or wildfowling, how are your dogs performing?
  5. Swamp People is good. Duck Dynasty is a laugh. American Hoggers was farcical. Other good programmes are Sons of Guns, Ax Men, Full Metal Jousting and American Guns. Come to think of it I don't watch much else!
  6. Might be better off asking in the wildfowling section of the forum.

    badger cull

More anti propaganda. http://badger-killers.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Warning-Live-Firing-A3.pdf I wonder who's on the other end of the phone number...
  8. Put your dog back on the lead and get somebody else to release the bolting rabbit. When dog shows no move to chase take the lead off but keep dog sitting next to you. Then try it walking (on lead). When your assistant releases the rabbit, insist that dog sits. Then try it off lead. Then move onto a bolt while hunting and so on.
  9. wont the dog keep dropping the dummy looking for the treat, atb wf The way around that would be to introduce a command when the dog let's go of the dummy, something like "give" or "dead". If the dog drops the dummy before you give the command say "no" and gently put the dummy back in the dogs mouth and try again. When it let's go of the dummy on command then treat.
  10. I have absolutely no sympathy for the burglars, they made their choice and came off worse, but I bet you this incident will be jumped on by those who want to restrict gun ownership further.
  11. As of just now: Pro petition has 1967 signatures. Anti petition has 1118 signatures. Pro leading by a countrysports mile!
  12. Found it! Currently at 1,118 so pro is winning! Here's the petition, DO NOT SIGN THIS ONE!!! http://www.thepetitionsite.com/m/188/084/979/ban-the-meynell-south-staffordshire-hunt-from-national-trust-land/
  13. Signed. United we stand, divided we fall.
  14. No problems training with dead birds (aka cold game) just so long as it was killed in season. Fortunately duck season starts on saturday so you haven't got to wait long!
  15. (From Wiki Answers) A brace is two pheasants, or a pair. A brood of pheasants is a family group. A group of pheasants may be known as a flock or a bouquet. A large group of pheasants is a nye or nide.
  16. Your lab's looking a bit thin there mate.
  17. If you're willing to put the work in, dogs will often surpass your expectations. Glad to hear Koda's doing well.
  18. Glad to hear he's working out for you.
  19. A true countryman. Respect to you.
  20. Dress yourself up in a sexy female mole costume (you know the type, big eyelashes, red lipstick etc) and mince about the garden. That'll make the red blooded male moles come out for a look, and when you hear one wolf-whistle, turn around and blow it's head off.
  21. Anybody else been watching this on More4? Good mix of science and entertainment. So far he's killed, butchered, cooked and eaten squirrel, butchered and eaten badger ham, dissected a woodpecker, grollached a deer and gone ferreting all on national tv. They even showed the lurcher holding the netted rabbit and the ferreter breaking it's neck. it's a shame this programme isn't on one of the four main channels to educate the ignorant majority.

    Brian May

Guy Ritchie shoots. Alexander Armstrong (comedian) and Phil Spencer (Location Location Location) are pro but not exactly in the same league as May. There must be more pro celebrities out there but they just won't stand up and admit it for fear of bad publicity.
