  1. Banter I dont remember that one........but do you remember an old guy called Wilf who saw my Fly dog taking hares up the Glen and brought Joesy to my door way before I met Tk? Wilfy had been a work colleague of my old pal Davy Alexander r.i.p. In the '60's so there's a bit of connection going back
  2. Fly was born 1980, same year I bred Sparky.....by a saluki x greyhound / whippet out of my whippet bitch Daisy. Gave Sparky (only surviving dog pup) to my sister as a pup and after a cuppla years she turned anti.....still love her though.....deluded fool that she is!
  3. Yes Cheeser Dickie was the man that got the saluki cross I brought from Batley in 77. Not wee Dixie.....phew! And he was a great digging enthusiast right enough. In the late 70's he had Handy and his daughter Mitzy, Cain, after whom a well known dog man named his son......and Bruce....a litter brother to the famous Socks.
  4. Cheeser its Dixie you mean isn't it....A Dixon.....not Dickie Holland from Lurgan...or am I confusing myself? Both men long gone r.i.p.
  5. The first cross bitch in my avitar would give the odd yip usually on her first run of the day but far more annoying was her habit of settling down to eat any hare she caught out of sight.
  6. Banter I was just sitting waiting for my pal to call and take the dogs out and I was thinking "who do I remember in the dogs with scoliosis?" and the penny dropped......you're talking about wee Dixie from the Shankill. Thats what threw me. Dickie Holland was a Lurgan man.
  7. How did that taste muka Tasted pretty honest to me muka!
  8. last question did Dickie Holland have a curvature of the spine and knocked about with A G if he did i alway thought his name was dickison Don't remember him having a noticeable curvature Banter but Dickie was a nick name.....he was the man that owned the Handy dog in the 70's
  9. No he went to the late Dickie Holland Banter
  10. No Banter I have very little pictures of any of my dogs due in part to not realising I wasn't going to live forever, and to an episode in the 80's which required all my pix and clippings going up the chimney....ask Templeking for details, lol.
  11. There was nothing special about this one Banter, he killed hares all right but with no special aplomb. I was running him around Belfast and craigavon on land that has long been surrendered to housing developements.
  12. your missing the point an its not about lucas. its that no one can say they have a good dog unless your running back an forward to england for 6 years..an that other bit wee been ok we had salukis early 80s I know Banter....I brought a saluki cross from Batley in 1977...the first saluki x I had any experience of in Ireland North or South in those days.
  13. on the other hand we brought a supposed to be good dog from liverpool over here it didnt want to know ater the 1st run with a cut leg[bigger cut shaving]it got dropped of in dundalk camp with the travelling men. So a bad experience with a single dog colours your palette for ever?
  14. Banter I dont read that as Gorger putting his dog on a pedestal at all. Many of us who had dogs killing hares weekly over here had the same dogs blown away on the fens as long ago as the mid 90's. If you haven't run there you can never know....it's as simple as that.
  15. If our dogs do what we want, where we hunt, then thats all that matters.....but why knock a man who demands a little bit more? Thats all I'm asking.
  16. I've tried to edit my post twice....I meant "woudn't be valid".....and I dont see Gorger running other peoples dogs down, rather defending his own, which he's entitled to do as he's done the ground work, the miles and gained the experience. Until his critics have done the same, any crabbing falls flat with me.
  17. Which ever reason for not having run on fenland doesn't matter. If I hadn't any experience of it I wouldn't express an opinion because it would be invalid....having no logical basis. For the same reason I never post on the airgun forum...!
  18. I think Gorgers opinion is as valid as any man on this forum as he has been there and done that....unlike a lot of his knockers!
  19. You only got to have seen the slip Blondie got on her fifth hare the day she won the 2000 Forley to know that the there was no favoritism shown especially to English dogs!! Although it was only English dogs got that far in the comp.
  20. I have this pal I've known since the mid 80's and when we were in the field with him about 17 years ago his bitch had been laid off for five weeks with a hamstring injury. It was the Temple Bruer cup and she won it with 4 out of 5. That bitch went on to win the British doubled up championships and the Forley singles....beatin Foxy..on two consecutive weekends the following season....and her name was DANCER! And Dancer was no plodder, believe me!
  21. We only ever ran where we were taken and Boston had good hares but the English lads will know the best over there.
