  1. I've had dogs that weren't very fast nor the bravest with good feet.....but they made serviceable lurchers and filled a freezer..... They can have all the speed and balls in the world but if they have bad feet...especially with bags of speed it ain't gonna do the job week in week out....
  2. For me it must have good feet....the breed/breeding matters not one bit if it's feet are poor....good coat, temperament, speed, brains, balls don't matter one bit if its feet are crap.... Nothing is more important than good feet....for longevity and productivity..... Saw one lad on here a while back claim that he had some of the best dogs in the country...apart from his fat bull xs feet which were like flippers and would have been better placed on a seal.... My opinion.... What's your must have in a running dog....
  3. Tough one that Darbo..... it was colin i can see you have been there yourself.i still think about this dog from all those years ago. some stick in your mind. I still run the what ifs over in my head from time to time and that must be 25 years ago....I might see a dog that reminds me of the Paddy dog or one of my lot might do something that reminds me....and it all comes back....
  4. This was mines..... Long, long time ago.... Paddy, a Richard Jones half x shattered a hind leg when he was 3 years old..... Had some good fun with this dog....sadly cut short.... What was/is your biggest dog related disappointment...???
  5. lovely pup mate, i like the first cross border collie greyhound, ive only ever owned one, but she would be one of my best dogs ever, this is a pic of her with my oldest son when he was a kid,, PICTURE WAS TAKEN 25 YEARS AGO meg.jpg lovely pup mate, i like the first cross border collie greyhound, ive only ever owned one, but she would be one of my best dogs ever, this is a pic of her with my oldest son when he was a kid,, PICTURE WAS TAKEN 25 YEARS AGO meg.jpg Cracking pic that Cocker....
  6. It's funny just how many collie x pups there have been this summer. . . . I think THL has had a bog part to play in that.. . . . . . Can't wait to see how they turn out Jai.....some crackers amongst them.....
  7. Love that we pup....even when it pissed in my house..... Is it a Hancock.....
  8. She is a really nice type for sure.....lovely natured wee thing too..... Great to see as many collie x pups this summer.....can't wait to see how they turn out.....
  9. Nescafe..... Seriously though....when I was younger I was obsessed with numbers and full bags and having dead things at the end of a run/hunt/day and wasn't fussy at all on how the end result came about....I probably wasn't wise enough to appreciate the finer points of the game.... Nowadays, and for the past few years, I care not for big bags or great numbers of dead things...I no longer have anything to prove to myself or anyone else...so I can chill out a bit enjoy the hunt for what it is and love nothing better than a good cur with an efficient nose working things out for itself
  10. What a very strange question Par for the course.......ing-lad......
  11. 2.5lbs of flesh a day...made up from either or a mix of chicken/beef/lamb/offal/tripe/horse - salmon/tuna/mackerel/sardines - fleshy bones/ribs/necks...pasta/veg and a bit of added fat....and a bit of good quality complete - yoghurt for breakfast with some fruit...banana/apple/orange with some honey and a handful of oats added..... You ain't gonna get results like this feeding a complete...that's a fact....
  12. Had that happen a couple of times with foxes over the years....once bolted an otter too....and on one occasion we bolted a massive big feral cat....I think most folk will have bolted things other than bunnies when ferreting....
  13. A mate of mine feeds his dogs cheap £8 a bag dry food from supermarket and says the same as you. They look alright on it. Seem happy enough. And his dogs are fine in the off season. But when we start grafting them it shows. All day ferreting then lamping at night and then out the next morning. His dogs start lacking, over the weeks the coats start to dull and his dogs take longer to recover. Whereas my bitch seems to thrive the harder I graft her, coat shines and muscles start bulging etc. I think good grub does make a difference when they are being worked hard. If he's a mate then y
  14. £40 for me pup.. sal dh x but paying more for a pup to me is buying shite as idiots breeding for the sake of breeding will ask £££ people who breed to replace their own stock the price is normally free i still owe a fella a jar of coffee for the best dog ive ever had pups for yourself and to mates .. all else is culled So all pups that are very cheap or free are all crackers. . . . . and any pup thats expensive is shit. Good theory. Jai - you never heard that theory before.... It comes from the same school of thought that promotes tying a dead cat to y
  15. Old fella once told me "fools breed horses for wise men....might it be the same with lurchers....."
  16. How can you guarrentee good homes 100% ? Especially if your selling for 50 quid every wannabe going will be after them to pass on after a month or two. Cull your litter to a manageable size an place pups within your circle of mates. If your dog's are good enough to breed then that shouldn't be a problem should it? If you can't place pups in homes of folk you trust then cull them, I'd be up most nights if I'd passed dogs onto folk I didn't know, wether they paid top whack or not. Not worth the stress cull a d sleep like a baby lol What a load of tosh. I bred my bitch ( 8 years

  21. Why... Prestige. The market dictates that people will pay more for gun dogs, across the board. Spot on. People pay more for gun dogs than they do lurchers simple as Not always.. If I ever needed a spaniel I reckon I could get one from working stock and pay no more than I'd pay for a lurcher... Aye but in terms of the over all market gun dogs attract a higher price than a lurcher. Maybe mate, but I don't know any genuine countryside shooting person round here who would pay or even expect to pay more than £150 odd for a springer spaniel.. Maybe the weekend shooter middle class types wo
