I would have thought a lightweight border collie would exel behind a long net as most of thier comands used for sheep work are directional such as away to me or get out by right or left most of ours will run out the length of the field without any sheep in it,which would scare the rabbits shitless, then lay down and stay,if the dogs getting to close to the net.Would like to work sheep with a dog that has been hunted regular on rabbits though ,they much prefer rabbit lot more fun and less grumpy. Good thread

Been watching some good dvd about bite training Leeburg really good info on picking and training pups, his opening sequence is about choosing your breed and he says most american dogs dobermans GSD nd rotties have been ruined by their kennel club prefers to import from Germany intresting a lot of people have said the same to me as mine have hardly any SHOW attributes but a scoring highly for work,I socialise mine as much as possible with strangers and different noise gun chainsaw pots and pans and KIDS from as early age as possible but I wont let strangers pet them .

Uncle had one about thirty Years ago swore by it for fox and deer, seen one at our show looks some beast,if you know the father temprement, working ability and it ticks all the boxes,it will make a fare size of a dog.

Should my bitch fail on whatever she gets tested on next retreving a fox or deer, then that would be down to my failings in that I decided to start this dogs life by breeding her,I dont go through life thinking everything is perfect and if it is not dicarded it like a worn tool, she would then live out the rest of her life doing what she is very capable of currently. I would not breed from her thinking I would cure this by breeding her to a dog capable of it.

Everyone has their own opinion and are entitlted to it however,in my opinion no matter what the breeding as someone has already stated you can never guarantee what the pup will turn out like but it does lesen the odds. Difficult to go into details on here what is expected of a lurcher given the current laws, personally I dont run a dog on rabbits until they are Twelve Months, their first season would be gradually built up on the lamp giving them plenty of cofidence as they go,during its first season it would be with me as mine has been ferreting, long netting, lamping two sometimes three nights

Dog breeding is no overnight quick fix fad, unless you have no consience and could not give a f""K about Your dogs and the people you sell or give them to. You have to start somewhere and the Sire and Dam must fufill all your needs to the letter, heard to many excuses, about a sire or dam and yet person still bred them, classic is people breeding working dogs from show champions because they looked good. The strain of lurcher I started breeding just Two years ago German Shepherd x Greyhound was bred from both proven parents with no faults that I know of however both met all my needs. My bitch who

Feed mine as early as possible roughly about three weeks, feed them well diluted mashed up weatabix and warm milk, scrambled eggs, well minced beef and always leave fresh bones beef or lamb replenished daily in the summer because of the flies.Worm them at three weeks 1/4 dronatal tab increase to half 5 weeks Mine are German Shepherd pups so you with terrier pups better stick to 1/4 This is Frost my latest Pup at Three months 18 kilos weigh her the other day up to 24 kilos four months -

Bit extreme...Why not castrate and re-home to a non working home????? How many times has it been out and how many rabbits has it run without picking them up how many times has it been out ferreting and seen ferrets hitting the nets ?????????? would have to know the answer to all these questions before cutting it nuts off or rehoming it.
