Was yours a rescue dog, unfortunately have seen quite a few German Shepherds with temprement problems, when I went to buy a puppy several kennels were less than satisfactory in my book,A good breeder will spend a hell of a lot of time with a litter right from a very early age, assosiating the pups with different noises smells and changes in thier enviroment, when I go and see a litter of GSD they must all come up to the fence line and to me to play,a Greyhound can be a very nervey dog to if not assosiated properly, put the Two together and your asking for trouble.

Take your time when learning pups to jump start slowing working your way up,put a board coming out of his kennel of about Two foot each time he comes out he will have to negotiate it,when you think he is jumping that comfortably raise it up a foot and so on.

Running dogs passed around
heart of wales replied to peterbirdman1's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have only ever passed on one Dog and that was a Pure coursing bred whippet out of tremendous stock, bought him at Eight weeks, paid a lot of money for him ,reared him, trained him as I would any dog, started him on mice at six months then rats at eight months ferreted rabbits and lamped at twelve months he was like shit of a shovel, but lacked a main component in my book heart,he gave up to easy, would probably catch about three out of ten rabbits, would mark and catch rabbits in nets but if one bolted missed hole,he hardly ever caught. A mate was after a dog for just ferreting good home and decen -

Driving home today seen what looked like a dead cat in the middle of the road mostly black, our elderly nieghbour has one so being the good samaritan thought better go and check if dotty had snuffed it. Picked up the carcass and F"""k me it was a wild polecat measure it and it was about 20 inches nose to tail, didnt take a photo didnt have a camera with me but he was as long as both my feet length ways. Caught plenty in traps before one last was quite big what the biggest you have seen or caught ??

Running dogs passed around
heart of wales replied to peterbirdman1's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Should be a good topic My theory is two fold To many Bullshiters who talk up there dogs like if they were jet propelled or had the heart and body of a lion, young impressionable hunters listen to thier bullshit and think their eight month old dogs should be catching as many rabbits as mxy. Secondly Lack of training fitness and obidience dogs stuck in the shed owner comes home from work neve been road walked or biked fed on dry biscuit happy shopper then dragged out in the field let lose on probably the greatest athlete in the animal kingdom, and wonders why butch isnt quick enough to -
There is all different theories on breeding lurcher first cross, mine GSD DAM to Greyhound Sire she has bags of speed more than enough for rabbits and ok for retrieving hares,Probably not as fast as Whippet Grey or Saluki Grey, but fast enough, she will as soon as I have spotted something on the lamp if I knock the light out she will run out in the dark to the spot light back on she is near enough on her quarry, she does not miss a great deal. In my opinion the most important thing is that both parents tick all the boxes for me they both gave that in abundance, the Dam had plenty of speed agility

Have to agree only breed from working lines, you only have to look at the back on the show type to see what sort of problems you are going to have, I would only ever consider breeding a lurcher from working lines ,both the bitch a White Gsd and the Greyhound extremly efficent fox killers and proven track dog ,however would have to disagree about white in all the White Gsd I have seen locally and the line mine came from exellent temprement. The Dam will catch rabbits on the lamp and kill foxes pre ban brilliant with kids you dont see a great deal in trials but neither do you see them in shows b

Twats of the highest order Hope the Police are taking this seriously ,they are not bothered with dog theft but attacking and mugging a child ???? because thats what this was ,what is the difference betwenn robbing him of his mobile and his dog a lot in the childs and our eyes but in the eyes of the law it is theft b*****ds no beating would be to bad for them Hope you get the dog back and your kid is ok

This The one I choose in so far she has accounted for 84 rabbits and Two shot hares retrieved of course one she brought back was alive, easily trainable, perfect ferreting long netting dog so laid back she is near enough sleeping until the rumble and then those radar ears pick it up and she is away suprising turn of speed for a big dog very agile, she has seen bigger prey will be starting fully soon.Been asked if I would breed her I wouldnt until I have seen her retrieving foxes,One of the other pups went to someone in Cwmbran a Mate bought a Falcon off him and he was chuffed to bits with his.Wou

Hi the one in the photo My Cousin made it is about six foot he has caught loads in it,the other one I have was a boughton it is only Four Foot and finer mesh I have caught several in it but not as many as this one,it looks in the photo if there is no soil over the wires in the base but we added that and chicken feathers after we took the photos, and the other field alongside it I prebaited with bits of chicken.Caught the other night with a head of a trout -

I know own a bitch pup 6 months or thereabouts had her first rat the other day got bit then went back in started barking at it then killed it.

Hi Karl Had a similar problem with this pup gave him to my grandson at twelve weeks showing some real good signs, however cut a long story short he came back to me at five months no recall Just wanted to go and play with the other dogs or sheep. What I did everyone has their own methods but this worked a treat for me, Put the dog on a long recoiling lead take him out for a walk try to limit the distactions early morning fresh field allow him out on the line recall if he dont come to your first call pull him into you titbit when he is under your feet.Do not put any food in his kennel he gets
