  1. From what I've heard about Sam he was a hell of a digging dog like a lot more that has come and gone and more that are still about. I have seen a lot of good terriers down the years and also a lot of shite that was supposed to be good. I have owned some very good terriers and also had shite and at present have a couple of decent digging terriers. We get out as much as we can in the season with work and all but the dogs see plenty of work which imo makes a terrier. When there hurt they are rested, when fit they are worked simple as and we have friends up a couple of times a season for a day's s
  2. Was chatting with a friend earlier who dug over the Sam dog a lot and actually had him in his yard for most of a season along with the Maggie bitch, he told me they were both very good digging dogs, he told me of 1 particular dig that lasted 7 hours and jw was there with them on the day. He also filled me on a load of dogs related to these 2,some blood in them terriers.
  3. He may of had another bitch same name years back but this was more recent, dog we have is around the 8 year old mark
  4. We have a son of Maggie's, very good dog, knows his job, started 3 youngsters of him this season and all going well.
  5. Had a dog here years ago that was down of phelans poker,,very hard dog for his size.
  6. Jerry Allen,a legend down in cork and all over Ireland, may he rest in peace.
  7. I agree, a working terrier is going in to black darkness, can't see his opponent, only working on scent until he reaches it and then it could be hours before he sees daylight again and unfortunately some times they never do, but that's the life of a working terrier, I also believe a game cock is every bit as game as a apbt in every sence.
  8. Was out with hounds myself on Sunday, good crack, haven't been out with hounds in years. The lads had 2 Jack Russell terriers running with them and 3 times they bolted a fox after the hounds marked, we ended up with a dig in the evening, what a calamity, 2 jr terriers and 3 hounds in the earth, they had 9 hounds in all I think, mostly beagle xs but they knew there job.
  9. When my dogs were stolen the garda were not very helpful, at one spot we paid a visit to they told us that they didn't enter that certain estate after dark so we said fair enough we were going in either way, they then told us if we started anything we would be held responsible, we still went in but no dogs, I have to say the gardai in roscommon were very helpful, 6 of them came onto the site along with us at nearly 11 o clock at night, no dogs got their either.
  10. The only thing the English brought on board was all our food sources, grain, fruit, meat everything to feed there own
  11. I'd imagine we grew more than spuds back then but needless to say the English were invading another country and couldn't feed there army so what did they do, created a genocide in Ireland to feed their own, potato crops may have failed but not the grain crops and every other source of food.
  12. Question is Liam, how you keeping by the way, back to question, why were the Irish starving.
  13. Coursing mad are your borders earth dogs or just for mouching about at rats and such, genuine question, also what percentage of working stock would you have from a litter, working as in digging dogs. They look like workers compared to some of the stuff you see nowadays paraded around rings.we had a couple down the years, 1 was bought as a pup, turned out a really good little bitch, unfortunately lost to poison on a shoot, and another was a working dog we also bought, he was a very steady dog to dig to most of the time, he died after a really tough long dig,he pushed to tight and couldn't keep
  14. Dilly dog do you remember the border dog ye lads took back with you years ago, big lump of a dog.
  15. Horses for courses, I wouldn't enter a digging dog in a place like that because 1st it can't be dug and 2nd I'd end up without a dog, but if I had a dog that would only do say half an hour and then appear back out or if I kept one that could be called out then I wouldn't have a problem with such a place but thankfully we have none like it about me, like I said horses for courses and a lot of foxes can be got with a 10 minute wonder dog,I remember a little Russell a friend had years back that would go in do 10min and out, then it was a case of sitting quiet for a few minutes and almost every t
  16. Why on earth should they share what they know. When that book came out and names of dogs were mentioned in it there were peds stuck up on here of all sorts and funny enough some of the dogs in the book were actually long f***ing dead and it was from your side of the world it was coming from. Truth is you or the rest of you American lads haven't a clue as to what digging does and doesn't happen over here. Mosby came over here some years back and he dug with ac and myself on his first day, we had 3 digs, nothing special but 3 digs to 3 different terriers. The next day he was out with different la
  17. 1of1,jambalaya was the one that put my personal details up on thl, I have not once said his name on here,he has also abused me and called me a liar openly on this thread and PMS when all I have done is told him the truth, he claims a certain dog is bred one way and I've told him that's not how the dog was bred but he says I'm lying, he at one stage said I bred the dog, while in fact the dog was never in my yard I never seen the dog.
  18. Do you honestly think I'm going to start naming dogs on here for you lot, rest of the litter were shite full stop.
  19. Truth hurts buddy, but the fact is that the rest of that litter were rubbish, and when did you see dogs from ac yard, you never did so f**k up talking shit about something you know nothing about, the nearest you have to ac dogs is pictures and false pedigrees.
  20. Nothing like proper ac stuff and also all the fuss over this mayhem dog baffles me because the rest of his litter were shite fact.
