  1. had thought that myself, Im thinking I did'nt bed it down enough in the run, thus leaving the strike plate higher up, meaning more mole needing to enter to spring it, if that makes sense, had filled in around it with mole hill dirt, to make it appear like a run cave in to mr mole practise will make perfect, but it certainly gives you a buzz catching that first one, being a payed job comes second of course
  2. you say the chickens are housed on concrete slab that the holes are under, so smoking with a petrol engine might not be the best plan for the chickens, as gasses may harm them, unless you know someone with a rat attack smoker (harmless smoke) the air rifle option will work, just make sure you have a good backstop for missed shots, and lay out some liquidized cat/dog food in a suitable place to get the rats to stop, check this out in the daytime and have a few practise shots to make sure you hitting the spot or see how the mk4 fenn trap goes, make sure you build a suitable tunnel over
  3. well I went back today to check the traps, one of the scissor traps on the outside verge had been sprung, and slightly pushed up/out, on checking the ones in the garden/paddock, on the opposite side of the stream, we had our first mole, so re set trap and will see how the third visit goes,
  4. and 50 posts contributing to the site, rather than 50 "hello and welcome" posts to newbies
  5. if your ever looking for a topic you posted, but cant find, click on your user name, then scroll down to topics, it'll tell you what section they are in

  7. its obvious that he was a houdini rabbit, and caught the bullet in his teeth
  8. thanks for that info, had presumed they wouldent surface, but if you reckon they can/do, and swim too, Ill take your word on it
  9. very pleased that I rearranged my day to do this mole job, as its my first go at the little buggers, put a mixture of scissors, barrels and talpex down, mostly in the rear garden, but a few on the outside verge (private property) Im presuming its more than one mole (correct me if Im wrong) but a small river seperates two areas of mole hills
  10. your going to get a mixture of replies, telling you small hobs, big hobs, big jills, small jills, as most people keep more than one ferret, you'll find that YOU, get a personnal favorite,it may not be to everyone else's liking, but it'll work for you
  11. mate, have a good look through the forum sections, you'll notice at the bottom is a WANTED section, thus people who want stuff, put there adverts there, where they belong, we also have a pinned section at the top of ferret page, which you can browse through for available ferrets as your post count is now 50, before that you wouldent have been able to place posts in the for sale/wanted sections, but thats no reason to place wanted posts in the ferret section,
  12. Id say.... slowly think some dogs do, and some dont we had a 2yr old plummer, wanted to eat them, but was scared of rats yet our 11yr old JRT that had never seen a fert till 3yrs ago, treats them with respect, plays with them, but is a killer on the rats go figure
  13. if your only ever going to keep the one, Id say get a hob, but ferrets are better kept in pairs, so some will say get two jills, some people use ferrets to bolt rats, and unless your squirrels nest on the ground, I wouldent expect a ferret to go chasing them around the tree's, yes a fert can climb, but not as good as a tree rat if you can get one from working stock, do so, if not, its get whats available use the search facility on here, your get all the answers you need plus more
  14. I've always had success with the rear end of rabbit, complete with tail, the older the better, normally around 2 weeks after thawing out, keep a few in the freezer, so I have a constant supply,
  15. police asked him, how low he could get  he replied, well so far Ive done a jack russell
  16. as for re sizing your photos, camera or phone, for future pictures make it easier for yourself, go into camera settings and lower the picture resolution, set that as default, you can take some test pictures to check the quaility, lowering the resolution, makes them computer friendly, as for those pictures already taken, have you got PHOTOBUCKET, if not, download it, its free, you can resize pictures there become a forum donator, £5 yearly, and you can upload pictures directly from your computer

  19. I'll tell those rabbits that have warrens in clay they have to move out then
  20. keeping ferrets you should always have a spare cage for emergancys, our snipped hobs cost £60 each, how much is your jill jab?, ours are around £10, and a lot of vets wont jab the same fert more than once per season, so it would make sense to take the hob, then follow kays advice and run him with only one jill this year, but if he's 100% snipped, you'll then save on vets for the next few years, and it'll be better on the jills
  21. right click and copy the URL then paste into your post or become a donator and then simply upload straight from your computer
  22. you may be feeding too much, if your finding stored food, try missing a days feed
  23. or the shavings/wood chip/hay/straw in the box, try shredded paper
  24. thats how I got into woodies the 410 hushpower was bought as a urban fox gun but then I took it out for some rough shooting, and having shot a passing woodie, then got into decoying as you say, it can get a bit hetic trying to reload when a group comes in, but its fun, only trouble is, it makes you want more guns
