Hi do you have to pay for the vet to send the bits off to the lab or can u tell him not too? Its £51 per hob is it? yup, they quoted me £51 for the snip each, plus another £51 each for sending the bits off, I complained and they said it was down to me, if i just paid for the snip, without sending of the bits to the lab, but then they could'ent garentee it was 100% complete, thats why i asked to speak to the vet/surgeon to see how many times he had done this on ferrets, after his reply, thought it was a good enough gamble to leave the lab results and save the £102 Ill be using t

one of my silver jills hated having a collar put on the first few times, but she has come to realise that going in the ferret box, means RABBITING, she's now only too pleased to stay put whilst I collar her up, keep putting the collar on, she'll learn

so you dont think it wrong to starve a ferret for 2 days before a days work
-
wouldent have thought it could re-connect, they dont tie a knot in the sperm tube, but snip a bit out, therefore connecting back i cant see possible, but maybe only firing on one tube, giving you the 50/50 when i had mine snipped 2 hobs £102, they wanted to charge me another £102 to send the "snipped" bits off to the lab, to check that the correct bits had been snipped out, its all very small in there, they would then have given me a 100% that it was done, i asked the vet/surgen how many ferts he had done, got the reply of 100's, so left it at that, keep me fingers crossed that it worked

christ mate, get yaself a shed and scraps of wood, gimme a shout, I'll come help ya build one

there will always be difference of opinions on locators or not, those of us that clear rabbits for pest control as well as sport will always opt for locators, as I see it as a waste of daylight, waiting at a burrow thats empty, for an hour or two, and the quote;if u love your ferrets then u will wait patiently for him the same could be said if you love your ferrets, you will get them a locator small area's with prehaps 6 holes, not so much of a problem, but what if your ferreting a large warren, 20 plus holes, brambles etc, running a 200yd longnet around, u

TOLD YA dont sell yaself short on the building of ya own mate, if you can shoot and ferret, Im sure you can use a hammer or screw gun, get a cheap 6x4 shed as suggested, panel the inside and put a section 24" high across the door opening (stops them escaping when door open) you can easily step over this on entering court, although that one you have linked to looks good, its starting at £170 cant see in his feedback what they normally sell at, or delivery charge plus it would still need raising up, or that floor will rot in a year or two

cheers ditch and kay bought myself a little wood burning stove to put in me new shed (when I get one)as a birthday pressie she who must be obeyed, thinks Im kitting it out to live in, already thinks I spend way to much time with me ferts, and always smell of that french aftershave "ar twa ferrite'" (say with french accent) but do you think I can get hold of a decent sized shed, can I f**k am watching the 5th one of flea bay, right at the last second, bidding goes mad and outta my price range, looks like Im just gonna have to save me burfday money up

take no notice of number 1, muzzels are a thing of the past, are we to assume you only have a hob? most people use jills as they are quicker at clearing a warren, entering a hob if the rabbits arnt budging sometimes gets them bolting, but as hobs are bigger, therefore slower, expecting a single hob to cover all the holes without getting tired, is asking a lot, I'd suggest get yourself a jill, and definatly get a locator
-
quote; you can just make out the longnet, we ferreted a couple of hills to start with. I normally ferret for rabbits, what do hills taste like then
-
or stick another hole in the collar

I always feed at night, around 7pm, raw rabbit, if going ferreting the next morning, I'll open the court up around 5am, turn the light on, let them wake up and do their morning buisness, before boxing them up at 6am, the work great all day, and very rarely kill undergrown, either midday, or just before we leave to come home, I'll pop a couple of rabbit kidneys in with them as a treat/appertizer if you think you gonna be out all day, take a water bottle with ya, if you fancy a drink/cuppa, then Im sure they do too

just did a google search earth dog, running dog, £34 per year, presume 12 issues, just under £3 copy the hunting life £5 per year, only if you want to sell, dont get charged for reading say's it all

definatly bury some mesh mate, i put mesh down, with some pipes on top (drainage pipes) then buried the lot in about 3ft of dirt and grassed the top everything was fine, untill i got a new hob, and he dug his own tunnel, somehow getting around the edge of the buried mesh, and tunnelled across to next doors garden i got worried that the tunnel would colapse with rain, and the hob was on "loan" at the time, the hob had taken a jill in there, and the buggers wouldent come out, took me an hours worth of digging, with it pee'ing down with rain, before i got to them, the floor is now concreted

welcome to the forum mate, you'll love it here, turn the caps lock off next time though, its classed as SHOUTING
-
you might have got away with it, if they were brothers, sometimes you'll get through a season without too much probs, but un-related I doubt it, saying that I have 4 hobs, all together, but in the court system they have the room to keep away from each other, they do have their own dominance levels, one father (castrated) two sons (vasectamised) and an outcross, unrelated hob, but a close eye will be kept as the jills come into season, and any fighting can be dealt with as I have large breeding hutches that single hobs can be moved too
-
hi shaggy, told you, you'd want another, Id suggest you get some nets mate, that way you can net up behind you, leaving a few forward facing holes to shoot over, that way any caught in the net, will keep your boy busy, and garentee the ferts get some rabbits, cant see it very safe you firing a full 360 degree's
-
go to a glass shop, smile and ask for a new bit to be cut in 32oz should only be a couple of quid at most
-
although the hutch type has a wooden floor, I just look at the overall space, the hutch with a ramp to bottom, the area from sleeping section aint that much with the ramp there, so the ferts would end up not really using that area, the larger hutch looks great, in they have their sleeping area, which as already stated could have an extra shelf placed in, and then food is given inside, plus the ammount of outside space is great at the end of day, it depends what money you have to spare, but be warned, ferrets are very ADICTIVE, once you have one, you'll want more, and buying a hutch, that b

How about this guys. I came across it at a pet shop that looks good shaggy

skycat has answered very well, I'd just add to try and get yourself some ferret vitamin paste, mine go nutts for the stuff, a big blob on your fingers/hand will inforce the hands are good idea, watch the hiding off food, be sure to clean it all out, when feeding them again, otherwise flies will start laying eggs, also feed at night in the summertime, not giving flies a chance
-
gotta be the vit, thought sj's only had a 4 speed gearbox (vit's have 5)
-
good point kay, luckerly the one I took mine too was mine charged £52 each hob (had 2) vesectamised they did however try getting me to agree, to them sending a report in and piece of tube (from the snip) to give a 100% certainty that the op was a success, this would have put the price upto £104 each hob, I decieded to ask questions instead, the vet had performed 100 plus snips on hobs, so I felt confident that he knew the correct bits to snip
