  1. of course the vet recomended it, its their nature to try and get more money out of you, never have and never will worm a fert, any rabbits always get frozen for at least 2 weeks before getting fed to the ferts,
  2. it looks/sounds like your going to breed them no matter what, take the divider out and give them the whole cage, two days aint going to be 100% on the mating, Id give it at least a week, then get yourself another cage to put the hob in, leaving the jill with all the 2 tier cage, she's going to need the space when/if kitts come along get yourself a good supply of rabbits too, or start saving your pennies to buy meat in
  3. see if there's any ferret rescue places near you, you can normally get it done through them at a much reduced price
  4. well, heres a few pictures, just a small bit of feather loss in places, and so far averaging 5 or 6 eggs a day
  5. I tend to chop off legs and head at home once gutted in the field, leave the fur on, as this stops them sticking together in the freezer, they fit in the freezer a lot better this way, can get around 50 in a small square chest freezer. take out one rabbit (each day) the night before to de-frost, then the jack russel gets the back half, legs chopped into 4 or so bits the ferts get the rest, again chopped into large chunk size bits, the local urban fox gets the skin
  6. have to agree, its their culture, I can see their way of doing it, is not our way, but jumping up and condeming them, makes us no better than anti's, and whats with THIS country letting halau meat being processed, surely thats no different, its outside the way other chickens etc are killed
  7. if he got out before, how come his quarters/hutch were not escape proof this time, dont wanna sound like Im on your case like an rspca officer, but it does come across as poor husbandry if this has happened before
  8. Im sure you have already, but dont forget to inform the police, local cat/dog rescue centers, and also knock and inform all your neighbours,
  9. I cant see the point of culling healthy ferrets the guy has asked questions and got some good answers, lets not go down the route of telling him, not to breed, anyone who keeps ferrets either as workers or pets, normally wants to give breeding a go, seems he has a better set up than alot on here, that only have one cage/hutch, he say's he'll keep a couple, well Im sure that number will double once kitts are in the cages, I started with 2 jills, bred them with the intention of keeping two, I now have nine, Im breeding 2 to 3 more this year, the others going with my snipped hobs, I expect t
  10. vets tend to charge different prices, so your better off contacting yours for a price, as what one pays, will be totally different elsewhere, most vets wont give the jill jab every year, its looked as a method of getting the jill out of season for health reasons, your far better looking for someone (list top of the section) of someone near you with a vasectamised hob, most it will cost you is a beer or packet of ciggies if you aint got the hob, Id say its down to whoever your planning of mating your jill with, they may ask you to bring the jill to them for a few days, or simple give yo
  11. I use a mk3 with 3 collars (still need a few more), but mk1's work well too, if they are in good condition, sometimes a mk3 can be a bit erratic if the ferret is moving underground, its best use is when the fert has killed and staying put, but once the pinpoint control is mastered, its easy, just search, then locate,
  12. and you ferreted 2000 warrens and only caught one
  13. no, a mk1 locator will pick up mk3 collars, but not the other way round
  14. BASIL; its good to see someone who takes the advice and will also then read more to further the knowledge needed. CRAFTYCARPER; re read what you have wrote, contradics itself, really no need to breed as rescue centres have loads, well where do they get them from if everyone stopped breeding ferrets, Im sure the rescue centres wouldent have any either, unless theres grow on tree's rescue centres as good as they are, are not the best at their job, come on, the club foot lot should have been humanely destroyed when the rescue got them, not kept with the intention of passing them on as pets,
  15. first check out what quarry your allowed to shoot, STARLINGS are no longer classed as a pest species, meaning you can get done for shooting them
  16. because i dont believe they end up deformed. find me someone thats ended up with dodgy litter and ill throw my hands up coz theres many people that have bred family for years with no probs. someone with experience please post as theres alot of know-feck-alls on her. not digging at you crafty, i do understand what your saying and it would be silly to do if it actuall DID cause problems bu im yet to find evidence of it. your correct in what your saying, but, your not explaining it fully, for the novice breeder to understand, yes you can breed within the family tree, BUT, to do so without
  17. how many dogs are in the picture, for you to have to say, the black one nice pictures richie, thought I spotted you with a camera those bodygaurds were a bit much wernt they
  18. thats one good thing about having a big hob with no nuts
  19. good pictures again rew, I like the zig zag net, interesting, any reason behind it, as not seen that done before
  20. my S410 TDR has a small screw, covering a small allen key fitting on the right of trigger housing area, that allows the gun to be put up or down, I can only presume that newer rifles dont have this adjustment screw, meaning you would have to take to a gun shop for adjustment
  21. well had a guy get my contact details through the national ferret register, he was a shooter that had permission on a 650acre farm out stanstead way, and wanted some ferreters to hit the rabbits before everything started growing, and to keep him and his crew on good terms with the farmer so Invited magwitch and richie along with my 11yr old daughter for a days ferreting, I had already been Introduced to the farmer, and as we had arrived well before the "shooters" he told us of another area I hadent been shown, that he was keen for us to hit first, a boundary line along a stream, and we saw 7
  22. surely you could have saved up since this topic was first started, I cant see a reason in asking for "a cheap mk3" if someone sold you one for £ and it didnt detect, you'd be moaning about wasting £, most mk3 I have watched on e bay, still fetch near enough the new asking price, so why not just buy new,
  23. cheers ditch, knew I'd get the info from you
