  1. years and years ago, un mated jills probably did die from not being mated, simply because they were kept in dirty damp cages and the bottom of the garden, the vulva being swollen and close to the floor, could pick up all sorts of infection, nowdays we look after ferts a hell of alot better, so this is not such a problem, they are not automatically going to die from being left in season, if you cant get a snipped hob, or a jill jab, then just keep the cage 100% clean, simples
  2. needs a price and location to stay here, you want offers, try e bay
  3. respect for the quarry is what its all about, if using a live catch trap, check every 24hrs, or every 12 is even better, if you cant check it, dont set it
  4. both mk4's and mk6's are tricky to set when you first get them, as stated, have patience and try going that little bit further each day with them, both traps have the safety catch, once thats in place they are as safe as houses, put your thumb on the brass trigger, push downwards, this will open the trap a little more, with another finger, although sometimes they come up on there own, the pressure plate can be put into the trigger, all this is done while the safety catch is still on, if your having no luck today, walk away, try again tomorrow, it'll will come to you, dont give up so easy I

    out of town

defo in the wrong section mate, prehaps posting your own topic in gamekeepers section would have been a better idea as for jack, have the full box set too, had a deal from amazon, really takes you back, I have a dvd player in my works van, and take the dvd's to watch before starting night jobs, as sometimes we have an hour or so to kill waiting for permission to go on track
  6. there was me trying to video it on my phone, and maltenby beats me too it as for setting it off, once locked in position, simply place your foot over trap and push ever so slightly, you'll feel the trap "go off" and your foot can be slowly raised allowing the jaws to close, without catching anything, ie fingers

I'd put a 4" board around the outside, fill with hardcore, bit of scrap mesh etc, fill it with concrete and scim it level, we have a 24ft concrete garage, heavy wooden apex roof sitting on such a base and all ok

    Slugs?

it probably would'ent harm them too much if they ate the odd one, after all, our chickens eat them all the time, but wether you'd want to use slugs as a food for ferrets, posses the question, WHY if its a case of masses of slugs, would you want to eat them, the money you save on your sunday roast, can be used to buy meat for the ferts,
  9. I gave her the treble 8 for doing the top half, knew there was a good reason for marrying a yorkshire lass plus she's a great cook, she dont mind the hunting, plus all manner of "dead stuff" I bring home, she can kill, pluck and cook chickens no probs, good in bed too, what more could a guy want is she foldable and telescopic
  10. sounds typical then for this time of year, as advised, although I have two brothers that are around 2yrs old that live together all year round, both intact and get on fine, its down to each ferret
  11. how old are they? I have lots of hobs that I use, some live together and get on fine, others have to be split in the summer as they fight, but come winter, all get housed together, if you want to keep them together as a team, get them castrated, that will sort it, I have four hobletts (no bollocks) great workers for summer time when intact males just want to fight or mate,
  12. if its howling, Im guessing its a puppy rather than a ferret, in which case wrong section, maybe the fact your leaving him/her in a cage is your answer one big tip; stop posting in capitals, lower case is the norm I'll move this to the dog section for you

  14. Id go with SACS, as it covers you for all forms of hunting, barring horses, alot of others are just shooting, remember though its only valid on unpaid work,
  15. are you on about those extending ladders, that raise up out of inside each other, not got them myself, but seen other contractors with them, slightly heavy for my liking, and only went upto around 6ft, what I do have in the van, are a set of ladders that fold into four, cost around £99 and they are the dogs danglies, once opened fully gives you around 12ft, my missus painted most of the house using them
  16. you can't blame them , Im the same when I get a hair in my mouth
  17. no, Im not batting for the other side, I wanted a mature ferreter, as I had some permission to give away, but as I had gained it via one of my pest control adverts, it needed an older person, rather than a youngster, anyway, its sorted now, richie10 has got it
  18. well john, I stand corrected just re read it, and can see where I had mis-read it
  19. have moved this to general section from ferret section, cant belive its had 30 plus views but no one lives out that way, might getting better response here
  20. whats the area like?, built up housing estate, or house middle of nowhere tried shooting within your boundaries, although dont think you can use the excuse of them knocking off the small bird population as a reason for culling, it needs to be more public health or livestock being attacked/
  21. you'll be able to work her this year, but dont expect instant results, sometimes it takes them till the following year before they show their true colours
